no problem, could you do us a favor and let us know what you end up paying for the pistons when you get them? I am looking to buy a set of 4age smallport pistons myself

Sam,

Forgive me for clouding the waters - but he said JDM 4age bigport.....not necessarily from an ae86.

I have seen with my own eyes an ae92 levin import with a bigport head and seven rib bottom end. True the engine may not have come from the factory like this, but I have read bits & pieces which suggest that this was the hybrid, higher comp variety of the bigport engine, which used a small port bottom end. Apparently this motor was used for a short period during the changeover period to ae92 small ports, presumably there was a delay in supply of small port heads for some reason.

Naturally this rare breed of bigport uses a 20mm gudeon pin. But on the whole I agree - 18mm for jdm ae86 4a-ge engines.

hmm interesting, I have had someone on here have a very bad experience with the ACl pistons

ok so lets redo it,

3 rib block: 18mm press in pin
7 rib block: 20mm floating pin

sounds right?

I had a bigport 7 rib 4age and it had 18mm gudgeon pin and 40mm bottom end.

ok it looks like the only way to know for sure without measuring it directly is to know the size of the big end on the crank

thanks for the replies guys

still slightly confused though so ill probably end up taking out the pistons and measuring it

I stand corrected then.

Like Sam said, have to check to be certain. Maybe the toyota production line myths are not true, perhaps just because these are old engines there are some hybrid-ized versions around from bitsa rebuilds.

I would love to know that as there stories of all sorts of weird crap like 4Ac engines with 7 rib blocks, 6 bolt flywheels on 4age engines etc...

anyway if the original engine in question is a factory RWD 4age then I would be betting its 18mm.
