When describing late and early type parts and models of cars we sometimes use the terms "zenki" and "kouki" to describe them.

e.g. - " Those kouki AE86 headlights are sik az ."

zenki = early type/model

kouki = late type/model

Garrett GT28RS 350hp "Disco Potato" ball bearing turbo

"It was developed by Garrett in the US for a project car called the Disco Potato with an SR20 powerplant.The car's power was impressive, 280 hp at the wheels, but not earth-shattering. The driving experience however, was. Throttle response was excellent, turbo lag virtually non-existent, and the tyre-smoking horsepower was outstanding. The turbo spooled up early, making so much torque, that the best quarter-mile time (13.7 at 104.5 mph) was achieved launching in second gear."

The Disco Potato car was a B15 Sentra - apparently people think it looks like a potato.

The Disco part of the name came from it's paint job - it was painted in that colour changing/chameleon paint - hence disco colours.

So yeah, from that point on the turbo was known as the disco potato! :D

ah btw, a disco potato is a type of garret turbo, it shouldn't really be referred to as any turbo

Frak
5th May 2009, 09:28 PM
More info on the "disco Potato", the project car was done by SportCompact Magazine, it was a car they were modifying over a number of editions, basically one of the guys on the magazine knew someone at Garrett USA, he asked him to make him up something special,

the guy made up the turbo using latest wheels/aerodynamics etc. They used it on their project car(as stated above, chameleon paint etc), the output was good, with good response etc. Garrett USA suddenly got a flood of people wanting the turbo......which they didn't officially make! So they decided to make it a regular production model and the rest is as they say history......A GT28RS is an American Garrett......assembled in Mexico :(

GT28RS used to power my 20V
