hey all just wanted to ask a quick question..
is there any advantages or disadvantages when running the same profile cam on the inlet and exhaust?
why do most people run with different duration on the in/ex cams?
and would it be better to use the same brand on cams and camgears together?
this would be for an n/a setup if there any difference

I think most people would run the same duration and lift on both inlet and exhaust, unless they had looked into it alot and had a reason.

It would be ok to run mismatched cams, or cams of different brands.

Of more importance, is that the person installing them knows a fair bit about it and can use a dial indicator and degree wheel or whatever needed to get it dialed. You need adjustabe cam gears.

If the cams are mismatched, the longer duration cam would be on the inlet for N/A.

Adjustable camgears are adjustable, so they can run with any cams. IF you know how to set it up.

There are a few camshaft setups listed in detail in the TRD Corolla Bible. This is not new info of course, but tried and trusted setups used by TRD over the years. Look through this and you may get a general idea.

mismatching the cam is something i plan to do, I am looking to run a 270 degree cam on the intlet and a 260 degree on the exhuast. Because the exhuast gases are meant to be held on for longer it is meant to let the gas push down on the piston for longer. The effect its meant to have is reasonable fuel economy even when cammed and good mid range power.
