Yep that's right, got me a poo-brown AE71.

Story goes my mate Jonezee bought this off a Granny, got it defected, got lazy and sold it to me.
Took a weeks worth of bringing it up to regency spec and it passed first shot, HYPED!

All outta rego, I took it home, put it on jack stands and spent some money on it...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/170341.jpg

Don't you just love the stock height... :teehee:

Slowly coming together, with a big thanks to AJPS...

Front End:
- AE86 Struts with 7kg Springs and KYB Excel G shocks
- New rack ends and tie rod ends with adjustable tie rod tubes
- AJPS Lock Spacer
- AJPS 40mm RCA's
- XT130 LCA's
- AE86 PS Arms
- Braided front lines
- Cusco Strut Brace

Back End:
- KYB Excel G shocks
- AJPS 5kg springs
- AJPS Rose jointed Panhard Rod

Interior:
- TRD Short shifter
- Nardi classic
- Cusco jib
- Pioneer junk unit and Soundstream 6x9s (SICK!1!!)
- Pink pedals...thanks Jonezee

Driveline:
- H/D clutch
- LSD (Locked Standard Diff of course)

Motor:
- It wishes it was still being driven by a granny
- Removed all A/C components
- Stock!

Wheels & Body:
- Set of MA61's, blacked out centres 185/60's
- Poo brown FTW

As it stands at the moment...think I might drop it another inch. For now, it'll do.

Update:

TRD Swaybar and bushes, Cusco strut brace, PS Arms, KYB's for the rear (fronts still at AJPS).

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/170549.jpg

The MA's all painted with some rubber.

Springs and RCA's due in tomorrow hopefully...
Also I sold my yellow car today, so that should help this car get on the road a bit quicker. Rego Thurs!

Let me know opinions on the MA's...

Springs and shocks are in!

Ride height pics tomorrow, waiting on a camera.
Sits a bit higher than hoped, but I'll leave it for now, trying to avoid Popo attention at the moment.

RCA's by the w/e but I've been thinking...
40mm RCA's...over kill on my car? Anyone agree? Are they even needed on a car that doesn't sit overly low?
Car sits about an inch above my set of MA's to give people an idea...

Don't think many people read this, but I'm after some advice...

I'm gonna be buying a halfcut of Buddy Parts soon and he has quite a few coming over and I'm sure they're gonna be all sorts of different 4AGE's...
He also said he was bringing in carby set-up style ones...
So the questions:
What type of 4AGE should I get if given the option...Small port, big port rah rah rah? (Btw 16v or bust)
Should I go Carby set-up for a first 4AGE? Or just stick with a stocko...

Keeping in mind I wont be giving it a massive over-haul, just keeping it stock for a while, maybe a few mods down the line...

Interested to hear what some of you guys think! Help please :)

you will need a fuel pump and a fuel reg. I would go injection for sure cheaper to.

EFI it is I guess. Any one else wanna recommend a type of 4AGE if I end up with a choice?

I was hoping for bigport, 100kw version, with the 7rib block...But I don't really know all the pro's n con's. Links? Other info? Anyone?

RobertoX

small port if you get all the conversion bits with it

pebbles
30th June 2008, 03:28 PM
i thought all bigports were the 86kw version and smallports were the 100kw version?

but yeah, EFI ftw, carbs would be sick but efi would be more reliable as said.

Sherlock
30th June 2008, 03:50 PM
I spent a few hours looking into it, Bigports came with either MAF or MAP sensors...MAP = 96kw & MAF = 88kw

Wiki:
The use of an air flow meter (MAF) sensor, which restricted air flow slightly but produced cleaner emissions that conformed to the U.S. regulations, limited the power to 112 hp whereas the Japanese model — which used a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor — produced 130 PS (96 kW).

^^^ Interesting, you learn something new everyday!

As for reliabilty I know a few people thaty run either twin or single carbs on a few different cars. have been ultra reliable, just harder to get the tune right. but once you have the right jets, and idle jets your set! deffinitly a more expensive exercise thought!

considered 20valve at all?

shorty
1st July 2008, 08:39 PM
i forget what the winning combo is but i think its smallport block with a bigport head?

duca would be able to tell/ hook u up with this set up

if u can get a ready to bolt in 20v set up, go that!

newer engine = more power, but less tuning options compaired to the ol' 16v

carbs = sick but more tunning and can be a costly excercise

lots to think about when deceiding on a new engine aye :teehee:

EFI seems like a must at the moment. Also found out that AE86's come with Bluetop bigports (3rib block, TVIS...) so it looks like it'll be one of those!

Now I just have to play the waiting game till Jay brings in his next container! *sigh* I hate waiting.

if i was u id be getting a gze oil squirter 7 rib block and putting high comp pistons in it with a bigport head and some cams and gear and bla di bla.

definately the option i would go for.

3ribber = less excitement for the women = worst.

7ribber = double plus one excitements - best.

just my opinion.

I've been wanting to have a car I can slowly build for a long time. Was thinking of either selling this and getting a daily, and then using left over coin for JDM 4age and what not or keeping this and keeping it 4AC for a while and just buying bits as I go along.

Still have no idea what I want to do, only asking what people would pay/opinions on how much I should sell for...

Worded it wrong. Just meant build it right, how I want no matter how long it takes. Not purposely going to take a long time.

My 4AC isn't so healthy, lockers are a pain the ass, daily = something stock for time being.

Sell AE71, use half of proceeds for daily, half for engine.

other vehicle ones are used instead cos i need em so i can get trade price

Sherlock
27th July 2008, 11:11 PM
Are you planning on running AE86 Struts? Because if you don't, I don't believe KYB make an insert for the stock struts...

The car that these come from is the AE86 Corolla so tell them that and they should be able to get you the shocks you want. But only if you run the same struts like myself.

Hopefully new job Thursday-ish. Means more cash for AJPS and Buuuuuuuuuddy.

16V is obviously going to get money first, but my WTB list reads:
- Intake trumpet from Custom Compact
- Upgrade brakes (JDM Calipers and discs, braided lines)
- T series and LSD
- Swaybars
- Trailing arm bushes
- Braided clutch line
- Coilovers (New or convert stock struts)

And that should keep my wallet empty for a while. Joy.

I'm too lazy, its all covered in mud n stuff. LOL

So who wants to answer some of my silly little questions?! :teehee:
I've been thinking about the whole 4AGE fuel thing, was going to use Bosch O44 (or whatever it is, the one thats the same as a VL Turbo fuel pump) and a 1 litre surge tank...

So what else do I need?
- Pump (Bosch)
- Surge tank
- Fuel lines (How much of the rubber stuff and where to get it? And I can use stock lines under body yeah?)

Crumpet
4th August 2008, 10:13 PM
VL pumps FAIL. Surge hard on turns. Bosch are WIN.
