View Full Version : Recent crack down on... well, everything

Hey,

is it just me or has anyone else noticed a lot of things changed that effect youth culture and many things we like to do...

for example the recent price hike in pre mixed drinks at stores. Now costing like 24 bucks for a 6 pack of beam

2am lockout for clubs in the CBD of Melbourne, i think it is in surounding areas as well but not sure. :verymad:

and not to mention their focus on street racing and the modified car scene. (n)

these are simply kneegerk reactions to unrelated problems, if kids wanna get drunk, they will get drunk.. making it expensive is just a way to raise money.

it looks like a bit of a conspiracy against the youth, does anyone else think its a bit harsh?

Or is the government simply run by a majority of out of touch nerds.

the 2am lock out thing is abhorrent... its just gonna mean more drunk shenanigans occuring on the streets as no-one can get into clubs.. the casino is FUCKED... they are exempt from the rules ( i wonder y....? govt earner?) so everyman and his dog will flock there to keep boozing and so much shit will go down there its not even funny...

oh... and speaking of petrol....got a spare $1.60 i can borrow.... anyone?

2am lockout = heaps of pissed angry people out on the street in the cdb at 2am.

The thing about the labor government is that if the crime rates go up, they'll just use the stats they want to show that they have reduced. Take the hospital waiting list for instance. In Vic, they Bracks government created a waiting list to go onto the waiting list.
Whammo, waiting list halved (still longer than it was under Kennett though).

Heaven forbid Rudd manages to get a republic and we get another Whitlam.

Lol, you're an idiot.
Did you even think about what you just posted?

Drinks are more expensive at clubs.
This is because the bar has to make a profit on what they pay to their staff, landlords, insurance, and TAX.

I daresay the government makes more money from you drinking at a CLUB, getting wasted, spending money on a taxi which then pays tax, feeding a slot machine which pays tax revenues etc.

P plater restrictions are meant to encourage people to drive less, or more responsibly, or use public transport.
You will be caught speeding, drink driving or defected regardless if you are a p plater or not.
Maybe you just won't be caught with 6 ulehs in the back of your Commo.

Once again alot of members on this forum have astounded me with their apparent lack of reality.

And yes, the alcopop raise was a kneejerk reaction. Get over it.

lol i didn't really make this to turn into a spacific left wing right wing debate... just general government fuck-upery

for the record though i voted labour, personaly i am worse off under their policies but i believe the majority of australians benifeit... bar the above policies (which both governments would have enforced anyway) i think their views for lower income workers and people below the 70k mark have more of a chance under the rudd government than a howard.

but anyway, thats off topic hahaha.

af300e

The mixer tax is not a knee-jerk reaction. It is a carefully orchestrated and calculated decision to impose an additional tax.

It cannot and will not reduce "binge drinking" and nor was it ever intended to.

At least people who earn 70k reap the benefit of the tax cuts that John Howard's government implemented. (40% tax rate does not kick in until 75k as a result of the 2006 budget)

Oh, and Mr Rudd's message to the pensioners? "FUCK YOU"

Yes, sorry you put it alot better then I ever would have.

It's like speeding cameras.
These independent studies and industry experts that explain that driver training etc which would reduce road fatalities, instead of absurd amounts of resources on speeding cameras and detection don't NOT get noticed by the state governments.
They just choose not to notice them and play with statistics in order to match what they are saying.

I voted labour, even though it won't affect me much.
When I finish university I will be on a very high wage.
John Howard and his government was rotten and was time to go, if it was a Liberal government which had fresh plans and faces for the nation then I may have voted them. As far as I was concerned with Howard's government, a bunch of monkeys could have governed our nation through the last 10 years and it's mining boom.

What else did you expect? You need smart and confident people to run your country.
And pills and other drugs have LONG been cheaper then a big night out on alcohol.
Granted, this will make it worse but it won't be like America where being under 21 means you have more access to drugs then grog.

Extreamly Simple Version :

Australias Economy is growing too fast , thus increasing Inflation. (Mainly due to the Mining Boom),
and Interest rates , ect are rising

If the contry starts going into recession (Un - Emploment Level increases) , the goverment will spend the money on community inferstructure ,
to stimulate the economy , to promote growth.

Thats why the government is saving.

If you leave the card blank or select two or more candidates with a "1", the vote is informal. It DOES NOT COUNT TOWARD THE ELECTION OF ANY CANDIDATE (read below)

Informal Vote (definition from Australian Electoral Commission website)

A ballot paper that is either left blank, does not show preferences in accordance with instructions and/or the law, or where the voter's full intention is unclear. These ballot papers neither contribute to the election of a candidate nor are they included in calculating the quota/absolute majority required to be successful.

Meantime, the Victorian Labor Government intends to be over 9 billion dollars in debt within the next few years.

Labor's ties with the unions mean that ultimately, their policies are inflationary. (luckily, wages, economic growth and interest rates tend to be lower under Labor governments due to their ineptitude and this may restrict spending and inflation. This would be an accidental positive rather than the result of good management.)

Brett, Australia is built on immigrants. It doesn't destroy our economy, it makes it stronger.

Modern society in Australia started with people arriving on boats back in the days of Captain Cook, to Italians and Greeks flocking and starting there restraunts (fish and chip shops!), asians, indians. They all come to Australia, and have been since the very beggining.

Australia was and is built on immigration.

Have you compared the Aus$ to the US$ of late, last time I checked I think it was floating at .95, our economy is not solely based on US markets, Australia sucks up everones ass with there importing and exporting!

^^^ Immigration has being linked to the rise of housing prices.

I welcome immigration, but government need more infrastructure to support
a growing population. (Schools, Health ,Roads, Public Transport)

Firstly its Labor, not 'Labour'. And yes, you are acting like a douche.

Finish Uni, get a job, start earning that 'very high wage' and paying very high taxes, and you will soon realise what you're saying is bullshit.

You've only shown me you're a sucker for believing the slick Union-sponsored Labor advertising that somehow the economy can run itself because of the mining boom. Yeah right. As for fresh plans and faces, who do you mean exactly? Wayne Swan? Martin Ferguson? Anthony Albanese? They're about as fresh as a grandmother's queef.

Note though this is nothing personal against you, I'm sure you mean well, but you've been conned like many others out there. Change can be good, but not if its change just for the sake of it.

from what ive seen..

indians do take up any jobs under the sun!! which i don't care they came here let em have it!!..

what concerns me is that most of them can be butchers... hence they are willing to take up the job.. and think do know what they are on about... ultimately ending up with semi half assed quality of work..

my missus recently quit at telstra bieng helpdesk due to the fact is that theyve trained her and group by a veteran Indian trainer (who worked there for only 2 years).. how he teaches the new recruits are instructed in shortcuts and without explanations where at most times he can't... shoddy at best..

I'm not bieng racist and such.. as i like their food way of belief and hot ass ladies

but by far ive seen nothing but shit such as:

`gluing 2 of my chewing teeths (molars) together with a filling..
`changed my clutch where it was only my clutch reserved was empty thus charging me the whole package..
`and recently locked us up with 60 a month adsl connection with surcharge after the download limit.. he told us itll only slow down..

whose prepared to start a revolution????

anyone???

it is proven time and time again, a government will always oppress its people. that is the way of the world. and when a government gets opposition to its evil ways, it points its grubby little fingers, and calls the opposition "terrorists" therefore what are we to do?? become the true bad guys??? or take the backward ways of oppression???

the things that represent oppression (religion, money, capitalism, POWER, individualism, sexism, racism) i may have missed a few things in that short list, please feel free to add a thing or 2.

cheers.

Both sides are right. 98% of car dudes on the road are shit and dangerous and shouldn't be driving anything with more power than a daihatsu midget. All you have to do is look how many people you see cruising the streets in their commos or wrxs or skylines or even ae86s with their seats all the way back and the backs of the seats layed flat down so they look like they're driving from the rear seats to know how pov people are at driving.

http://daihatsumidget.co.uk/images/P1010024.jpg

However the general public are just as bad, and while they're right about a few things (idiots in fast cars), 99.8 percent of them couldn't correct a spin if they lost control in the wet, they don't know even the basic limits of their cars, and anyone that wants to improve their driving is a "hoon". You put good coilovers in your car so it has a lower center of gravity/is more balanced/responsive and you are automatically a hoon. You take your car to the track to become a better driver, you're a hoon.

In the US they did studies that PROVED using statistics that speed cameras do squat. We all know this. Germany has one of the lower road tolls per annum out of all the countries in the world. Yet they have highways without speed limits/public tracks like nurburgring.

In particular the US article I read recommended driver training as the singular thing that would reduce the road toll and deaths on the roads. Licenses are too easy to get, and they evaluate people on trivial things. With each license test they should have a compulsory defensive/advanced driving course that the person must pass to get their license. Make people put their cars out of control, and then teach them how to correct it. Or even better, how to avoid it. Teach people the limits of their cars, that it's safe to take a normal corner at 60km/h, instead of slowing down to walking speed like 99% of people do here on the sunshine coast. Teach the commo boys that putting their seat all the way back is in fact bad and gives you a less commanding position of the car. Teach them that using one hand @ 12 o'clock on the wheel is NOT a good way to drive when you're going fast.

P plate restrictions on cars are probably a good thing if you think about it. Anyone that likes cars is going to drive fast anyway, and if they do it in a n/a, slow car, it's all the better for them. To be quick they have to learn to drive rather than just relying on that hissing snail or 8 cyl washing machine under the bonnet.

I'm all for introducing a new rule for people wanting to buy a powerful car - make people take a test to prove that they can drive a fast car safely and correct things when they get out of hand. Make the criteria for what makes a powerful car based on power to weight ratio. Make a law that each person with a fast car must attend a track day at an official sprints/circuit event once every 6 months to keep their "fast car license". Could you imagine how much better the drivers on the road would be after this sort of training?

As a last note, don't drink bundy rum. It's crappy AND (now) expensive.

That would qualifiy 99% of the population accourding to the way this forum thinks. How does on qualify for power, money, racism, sexism etc etc. This world is fucked when you look at it. A loser is someone wh owants the world to conform with there ideals, and that includes the government. Why do the set laws that allow a wide interpretation? Look at cops, they apply the laws (ie defects) as they interpret them.

of course, because they are douche bags. most of them would look at beau yates or ueo or kazama driving and say things like they're "not in control of the car". In fact I've seen it on an a current affair story about drifting. It was a pair of Japanese drifters on a mountain road sliding the pants off an r32 and an fc. They were obviously skilled drivers, and meanwhile a driving instructor in the interview said they have poor car control and technique.
