View Full Version : crackett's S1 TE72 'Rally Spec...atm...."

So after having two ae86's, a KE70 I left the 'scene' for a while and purchasing my 'midlux' whilst I concentrated on work and personal life. I soon grew tired of not busting skids, having a loud exhaust and all those things that come with mid-80's Toyota's.

So I saved for a while and decided I would build another KE70 as I prefere the shape to that of the 86. I then changed my mind after constently witnissing way to many retards on the streets (Blackwood) in shit box *E7*'s. So what to get? I narrowed it down to either a mx73 cressida or a TE72. With mods like engine conversions and suspension in my mind i realised the 72 was a far better option, and that I would save the cressy for another day.

So I called my good friend at c1- Industries and grabbed the t18.

As is sits at the moment it's 'rally spec' consisting of:

Koni Ajustable shockerrrrrzz.
Custom King Springs incase I ever feel like turning it into a boat.
Extractors with fuck off long secondries
Aus-spec 14"6J meshies.
And K-Mac Castor/Camber tops.

The car isn't registered at the moment as I don't plan on driving it until it has a decent set up, ie, AJPS coilovers, sway bars, short stroke shocks, LSD and wheels. I am undecided on what wheels to run. I can get superlights reasonable cheap in 15"s although i do prefere 14"s. So for very little I could run 15"10J Superlights on the rear, and 15"8J up front. OR I could get a nice set on second hand Jap 14"s, what do you think?

Peace :)

Hey ladies ;)

Yes un rally spec'd, although I did wish it had some rego left on it so I could take it out dirty rally but meh! Will mainly see grip, but we all know I'll bust skids here and there.

I love the look of C1 s2 front with chrome bars, but I don't want to be a copy cat, so I may go down the quadlight route, even though thats the 'in thing'

Superlights, watanbes or deep dish jap meshies with retro centres? Either way I will have alot of track on this car.

Quads do look better in my opinion, but thats not different anymore cause everyone has them.

Anyone got opnions on wheels? Argh keep changing my mind!

Have started cutting and shutting rust, will probably finish it off later tonight!

Oh and also, I am undecided on weather to strip the rear, the car wont be driven much at all, but I had a look at the rear last night and it was all very neat except the carpet above the wheel well, another pickle!

That's about it for now, any help/suggestions much appreciated.

If i got down the jap part I will probably get watanabes (always had thing for them in black) or deep dish mesh with funk coloured centres.

Just started stripping the rear, not going to take out the sound deadening, as I want it to look pretty neat. All rear plastics will be painted black, and the interior chassis to be metallic charcoal. Sould come up alright.

Does anyone have a right rear tailight lense? Or no if you jew it has an T-18's?

Ah man, you guys are mind-fucking me!

I have pretty much sold the wheels, so will more than likley order some superlights soon.

I cbf having skid rims as I will be using the car once or twice every few weeks, so what trye size should I run on 15x10? I don't want to get defected straight away by running a 195 or 205, so what's best? I will also wanna skid, so I am really mind boggled? What will a 215 be like?

FUCKING DECISIONS. Is there anyway they will tuck under an origin flare with 195 or 205?

crackett
16th August 2008, 05:47 PM
Just saw a picture of the 10's in the AJPS section and they look mighty fine.

Go 8's for street.

Go 10's for pose. Or Autosalon.

Car will hardly be streeted so I'm not to worried about defect thing, it's bound to happen anyways. Oh well decision will be made in coming weeks when the dosh comes in. Have also pretty much sold the wheels on there anyway.

Also- Have just taken out rear seats, and off with nana strips. Spent at least an hour trying to get the tow bar off, but its fucking connected behind the petrol tank which is a bitch cause I can't swing the petrol tank down with out doing alot of fucking round. Have decided to go jap wheels as I've seen about 5 sets of Superlight's in the last week ordered through my work. I prefered 14's anyways!

So my to do list in the next month or so will be...

Corona LCAs

Whilst I'm spending all my money on that I'll start prepping the body some more!

Someone hook me up with an lLSD!

So tempted to get the lsd, wheels, primer it, cut the springs and drive it! Must resit though!

Spent a good hour our so taking the pinstripes off. Fuck it's a gay task, there were millions of them. Also did a fair bit of filling and fibre-glassing. I have a few more dings I need to get rid of, reckon I'm going to need to invest in a dent puller though. After that there is about 2 spots of rust that need to be finished and it will be ready for paint.

So does anyone have an LSD? Looking at spending around $500, preferably 2 way!

Hardly, the bars on this car are fucked. I would much rather chrome ones, I'm trying to a price for them to be striaghtened and re-chromed, but it's will cost alot. MotorFix bars are only a possibility as this stage as I'm still figuring out what direction to go down as far as painting goes. Straighten car myself and paint myself, or get whole car panel beated and painted (including chrome bars). We will see...

Cut the rust out if you know what your doing, but it looks surface in that pic. Try sanding it with coarse paper first to see if it sands off. Then apply some rust converter to the bare metal areas, followed by a primer then a bog.

If it doesnt sand off/you know its more than surface rust, cut it out is the way to go if you know what your doing.

Grille looks good now, nice.

crackett
28th August 2008, 08:11 PM
Yeah I've done a fair few rusto projects with old man and confident in welding and cutting. Just wasn't sure if it was the right place to be cutting out.

It's worse than surface, pics don't really give a good indication of how bad it is. Has anyone tried any of those rust treatmeant products? Doubt they will do the job?

If not, I'm off to the shed tonight with ye old angle grinder...EEEEEP!

Did you remove the sound deadening or just spray over it?[/b]

Just left it in there for now to see how it would turn out. Will have a go at the sound deadening next weekend.

Can or Spray Gun?[/b]

Just used some old rattle cans at home just to have a look what it would look like. As I was unsure weather to go white or black. Tried black and liked it. I've got some auto gloss black paint at home, so once the sound deadining it out, I'll use the spray gun and should come even cleaner.

I decided to leave all the rear plastics in, because removing them isn't going to reduce shit all weight, and it will look alot cleaner with them in as I've cleaned, primered and painted them all black.

HAHA yeah, do you want the skid wheel back sometime soon? Still got to get a Lousi off Lawson soon.

Front end only cost a few hundred :)

No updates, just doing body work and putting all my money away for a set of wheels when Jay gets back, and a brand new Cusco 2way off brother Lawson.

Thinking of purchasing some 14x8 mk11s and polishing them up. Just waiting on a reply on offset and should be good to go if offset is good.

What do you guys rekon? I have a good feeling they will suit the car perfect.

I have also aquired 12 185/60/14 Adrenaline Potenzas. If anybody wants some PM me and ill probably only use 8 of them!

Howd you hook that up? PM me with price dawg.

Definately go SSR for wheels cos if you fuck one, can repair the lip or buy a brand spanker off yahoo.

14x8J is mint with 185/60, 7.5J is stress free as far as cops go though.

The offset is +2 so I'm deffintly grabbing them! YEW! Did have a budget of about $1800 for wheels not including tyres, so I have a lot letf over for other mods and refurbishing the wheels.

PM sent Hen.

Also, thank's to Justin for hooking me up with some taillights stress free and quickly :)

Just trying to organise postage for some mk11's and then should be good to go!

So just putting some money together for a new Cusco 2way, after that should be good to go for a few months rego and many a skid!

Might have gone abit over board with the springs today. Actually is stupid low in the rear considering the front is still rally spec. Will put a pic up later, eep!

Pics as promised. It just got some shitty ROH 15x6.5 skidders that came off my mkI Escort on there at the moment untill new wheels turn up. Hoping that's sorted with in the next week or so.

Here's the rear ghetto styles. When I strip the sound deading again I'm not sure if I should take out the plastics or not? Also it will be re-done Metalic Charcoal or just white? Any ideas?

Interior colour I reckon white would look mint. And I like the look of no plastics. My 2 cents :P
