Just got myself a daily, helped a mate get it, but it sat in his yard for 12 months doing nothing, so i took it off his hands.

Cost me $1000

Flat front Ke70
Black top/Grey bottom paint.
Dinosaur 2TGEU - injection replaced with Mikuni Phh Carbs
5 speed - K50 i think? have no idea
200mm 6kg rears (new)
Boag turbo short stroke shock (new)

SO

Wouldn't start , pulled plugs, cleaned them up, and gave it a gut full of "start YA Bastard" and off she went.
Carbs need a tune.
Cams unknown, but has a lumpy idle

plans, just get it running , rego, drive it.
needs a new throttle linkage, and some other things.
think i will also remove to booster so i can get some stacks and filters on the carbs.
Going to run 14' wheels - some of those Diamond racing steelies ;)
was optimistic and thought id see if my superlights would fit under the guards.. ha! dreaming

It's should have electronic ignition( no points) if it's a 2tgeu

Amazing! cheap as too! looks like a very nice buy. Gearbox will be a T50 different spline to an ae86 type one though.

sundee
3rd August 2011, 04:50 PM
Yeah righto, box feels nice, I just didn't know what type of box they used with the T block.
I suspect there will be some decent mods inside, when I got it running it had a lumpy idle and the clutch in it is something solid center but an organic plate or the sort, and a heavy pressure plate.

Fusion
3rd August 2011, 04:58 PM
Gearbox will be a T50, unless its been converted to a W5X gearbox with a 1GGTE bellhousing.

2TG's are great, give it a good tune and she'll be singing over 7,000RPM :D

Just sorting out the carbs and tune ATM, the old owner had the timing set st 15 deg btdc , where this version should be only 5 deg btdc. This made it run alot better.
I've ordered a few parts for the carbs, including parts for a new linkage and some parts for the starter system on the carbs.
Got a genuine mikuni phh carb manual and I've got my hands on a wide band o2 sensor etc and I've got a vac gauge onnits way to balance the carbs .

Next week I'm making a mild steel 2 1/4 " exhaust system, under diff, and a straight out 3" rear pipe.
Will post pics.

Need to mod the extractors where it meets the main system as is makes the rest of the system hang way to low!

jakel
13th August 2011, 10:39 PM
just set the timing as far advanced till it starts pinging the back it off a bit :)

sundee
14th August 2011, 12:22 AM
Yeah that's the plan eventually, but It was backfiring and carrying on, so I just checked it with the gun, so I wound it back, it doesn't like to go with only the extractors hanging off it.. Stuff it's loud 2 ;)

bit of an update

had a few issues to fix with the carbs, some monkey had no idea, accelerator pump was doing nothing on one carb because of the way the linkage was setup. sorted that
Getting a rebuild kit for each cab from the states with a few other things.

Finding Stacks for these things is quite difficult, so with a bit of measuring and some handy mods i decided to use T3 Silver top V stacks

i could have used black top stacks but there would have been a 1mm step up in the throat, with the silvertop there is a half mm step down.. perfect

Also removed the brake booster, going to get some plates made up for anyone else who want to do this mod.

Pics:
Accelerator pump rod fixed, the arm was pointing down and the spring was compressed doing nothing!

i've had a couple of 2tg cars, fark they're awesome!!! get some cams reground with hi lift and long duration, plenty of info out there on what will work.

these engines scream, easy up to 8k all day long.

I'd be interested to see some pics of your mikuni manual. where did you score that from? also what rebuild kits did you get? looking for some myself.

thanks.

nice rig too. can't wait to see it on the road

sundee

Cams are def on the cards, ill get a vid up, it's even louder with just extractors hanging off the side of it.
Got the mikuni manual off the net, I'll send you a link tomorrow, easy,

I don't know much about these engines, but seems like the 262 head isn't any good for building a hi comp na banger, time will tell.

picked up some bits to make up my exhaust today,
57mm with 76mm pipe out back, 8 x 4 straight thru muffler... hopefully its enough to give it a good note.. and not be annoying

anyway, i strung a line across the underbody half way between the front and rear wheels ( where the ride height "should" be measured ) so ive got an aim point.
i reckon i can get this exhaust system up nice and tight, and there is a nice spot for the muffler just before the diff.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/208748.jpg
Got an adapter made up - 63mm to 76mm
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/208750.jpg

Roughly where the muffler will sit, you can see the string guide, main pipe will sit above that, also need to mod the extractors after the collector, ATM it aims at the end of the gearbox x member and would end up below it... way to low for my liking.

got a little bit more done today, modded the extractors because there was a 3" gap between the exhaust and the floor pan, y? whoever made the system before was lazy! thats all.

Out came the extractors, and after some measuring he got the chop!

so ill just post all this crap for myself to read,

got some more done today, all the rear end is in, im right into my torque wrench, got all the manuals and torqued every nut and bolt to factory specs, kinda gives the car a umm... yeah balanced look.. hmmm anyway its comforting

so after i admired my work for 5 seconds i stated on the engine intake side,

there was a boot load of gasket gew and no manifold gasket, it was squished into the intake ports, looked rank , so off it came.

got new gaskets... didnt know the 2TG ran water into the intake manifold... only figured this out once it broke its waters on the garage floor.

gave the manifold a clean up and fitted it back on, and Torqued all the bolts ;)

set the 4 link up to factory lengths to start with, see how it goes,

parts installed

T3 4 link
T3 panhard
TRD blue 8way shocks
AJPS adj spring perch, adjustable from 180mm - 230mm
selbys blade adj swaybar, 20 mm from memory
not forgetting that large mass of metal - the diff

sundee

Nah it's pretty easy, just mark the center, use some tape to hold it in position, test fit with tyres, adjust if needed, tack weld, etc

dbr11k
3rd June 2012, 01:18 PM
Have you finished welding them on ? I wanna see what yours look like finished.. wish I spent more time on mine as they aren't that crash hot... I'm running -0 15x8 and I'm thinkin I need 20mm spacers now lol

3rd June 2012, 01:47 PM
Did you roll the lips flat or cut them out? Cant quiet tell from the pics. Looks good

dbr11k
3rd June 2012, 04:05 PM
Looks like he has cut the tabs off and put about a 5mm roll on them.. lose to much strength if you don't have a roll.. plus it would look terrible.

sundee
3rd June 2012, 05:39 PM
Yeah i drew an arc around which pretty much took off the tabs. And cut thru that line.
Then rolled them back about 5 mm for strength and to get rid of the sharp edge. The best way to do it is bolt up the guards on the front ad do it all the shaping on the car, once I was happy with it, I did the lipping on the floor.
If your running 8 -0's you will need a decent bolt on spacer to fill them out, that pic is with 10 neg 12 and they sit flush with the lip.
I've kinda stopped mine half way, I'm going to raise the front and rear arch's so I can go lower ;)

dbr11k
3rd June 2012, 06:57 PM
That's what I did with mine, mounted them as high as possible, and i cut about 2 inches out of the inner guards and belted them up..

you've rolled your lips out, I actually rolled my whole lip, tabs and all inwards, and then flared it out, so mine are no where near as wide as these puppys lol
