Hi Peoples,
So I've been building my KE70 for AGES and I finally got sick of it. I HATE bodywork so I've scrapped my old KE70 and here I stand.

My all new South African TE71 with Rego just gotta get a roadworthy and change of name then in goes the 4AGE.

From the outside she's just your plain old slanty front KE70 except with short bumpers and no black strip between the tailights.

Inside and underneath it all its gets very exciting!!!

How about some CRAZY South African seats!!!

Annnndddddd!!!! A 2T!!!

This thing goes pretty darn good and its only a 3 speed auto! It would easily smash any stock 5 speed 4K as it keeps up with my GF's 2002 2.0L auto Golf.
With a manual box this would actually boogy pretty hard.

The driveline is totally different with 1 piece tailshaft, bigger drum brakes, bigger diff and the steering is recirculating ball. The steering is actually quite heavy and the reason these people sold it as the wife found it hard to steer while she was pregnant. WOO lucky me.
Its like really difficult to turn on the spot compared to a normal Keto. Hoping I can rip all this out and put in my rack and pinion with ease.

Oh Oh and last pictures and the best thing I like about the car I have a factory black dash and no stupid wireless up the top just a din spot for me to put my guages. Anyone wanna buy it? AS IF!!! Talk about RARE

YES! Awesome Pete, can't wait to go on another cruise with both our corollas, which have both taken AGES to build.

If you need to hand let me know man, happy to come down and help out or use some of our tools. If you're interested in going hydro handbrake I have the bracketry here for a removable/unscrewable lever and a base plate that let's you keep the cable handbrake as well, you can easily copy all this stuff.

You need to use a KE70 steering shaft for a rack conversion.

This thing is amazing! Seats, Factory Black Dash! The factory din pocket up the top! It's perfect!

Please keep 2t and convert it! :P

Any more info about how it got to aus?

The column is different but doesn't matter as I'll just rip it out of my KE70 as I rebuilt everything in the driveline in it.

I'd keep the 2T but I've already got my 4AGTE Built and even though a twin DCOE 2T would be awesome I don't want to spend anymore money.

Was on car sales for ages and it has no rust.

Will post up pics soon of how good it looks after cut polish.

Some pics after I washed and polished the thing. Pics don't show how shiny it really came up.

Nah thats the bloke I bought it from for $1000 with no RWC it has rego till january. He wanted $2000 with RWC I was like pfft. I've got everything new so whatever it gets knocked back for I'll just throw on.

I dunno the history would like to find out but dunno where to start. I'm guessing personal import. Everything I've seen relating to a TE71 is not 100% accurate they say the gearbox xmember is different which is true but that you'd need to only use two bolts to mount the AE86 member as it doesn't have holes for the extra two but mine does. Also saw something that said the strut holes are different but they're not.

Put on all my new door seals and boot seal yesterday. Still gotta throw on the window bailey channel. Put on two new rear tyres. Threw in some new plugs as it was missing on idle. Just gotta check over some things and replace brake fluid then put her in for RWC.

So I was thinking today my bumper bars on this are steel and painted black. If I were to straighten them out and get them chromed they'd probably look pretty bad ass with the plastic ends. Thoughts?

KurtHS
8th September 2011, 12:14 PM
I reckon leave them black for now and wait till the car's all built up then decide whether you like black or not.

True true Well I hate slanty fronts I think they're boring and ugly and going to chuck on the square front so I'm sure the front won't fit anyways now I think about it.

Wheres yours at Kurt?

Mine was running and FINISHED! Drove it home from getting the exhaust made yesterday and it conked out near my house (lucky), turns out I have no spark, so now I'm trying to figure out what's causing that. Haven't had a decent look over it all yet, I did go home and grab the coil and igniter from the 86 to try and that didn't work.

If coil and ignitor didn't work check out the dizzy. Are you not getting spark on all 4? Take them out one at a time earth them on the head then see if all aren't sparking. I'd say its your dizzy take it off and give it a good cleanup. On other carbied cars I've had I gave the terminals in the electrical plug a cleanup with a wire brush and it fixed it right up.

Dave sorry Stahlz already pm'd me about 6pm but when I do if stahlz isn't ready to take them you'll be the first to know.

I will be going flat front no doubt about it as I really dislike the slant front.

Took this in for a RWC yesterday and boy have the Vic laws changed. The cost has gone up from $75 to $135 but next week my mechanic is going to be $165 and he says other places are going to be up to $500!!! This is for a car that already has rego and doesn't need to go for a vic roads inspection.

They now have to have a specific digital camera that Vic roads specify and take photos of every item inspected and email photo evidence to vic roads. You then have 7 days not 14 like we use to to produce the car with all items fixed. They then take more photos of the repairs and send through to vic roads. So looks like no more dodgys can be done. Mine failed with flying colours!

Failed for:
All rubber brake hoses need replacing. I was like sweet I've got some S/S braided lines I can throw on and he's like sorry even though you and I know they're better you can't use them because they aren't ADR approved.
Front brake discs aren't thick enough. This is annoying me cause I can't find the stock disc width for a TE71 do I just go off KE70 thickness 12.7mm even though they're smaller diameter.
Passenger seatback loose. No issue if I can't fix it I got a spare seat.
Both lower ball joints stuffed. Hoping my KE70 LCA's will fit that have new ball joints or I'll just buy more.
Rear brake shoes low.
The one that pissed me off the most though was my brake pedal rubber is too worn. Look at the below photo
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/0/8/0/231032.jpg
Yes it is worn slightly in the corner but come on for a 26 year old brake pedal rubber its pretty darn good and my foot doesn't even slip off it when my shoe is wet wearing worn shoes.
Also I took out the floor mats and look at the picture in the floor pad. Stock you think?

Oh and just for shits and giggles this guy driving in front of me the other day going mega slow.

I should have some stock AE71 front struts you can borrow, PM me on the weekend and I'll see if they're still there. Brakes were fine on them from memory.

Bluterus
16th September 2011, 11:14 AM
Hey man I've got some 86 struts and brakes on my KE70 that I will use if the brake discs are thick enough. For RWC minimum is 11.5mm mine are 11.4mm I was like what ####s nit pickin! The rotors on this are 234mm Dia is the AE71 the same stock or is it smaller?

stahlz_ae86

218 from memory. Can check.

shift_rook
16th September 2011, 06:18 PM
where'd you get your braided brake lines from? not ALL braided lines aren't allowed, i had some which were ADR approved, sounds like your guy who's doing your roadworthy is a bit of a wank. that brake pedal rubber is bullshit, tell him to suck a fat one :)

stahlz_ae86
16th September 2011, 06:25 PM
It's worn at the bottom right, wanker yes but these new rules do seem to be a bit crazy. Guess he's just covering his arse.

Bluterus
19th September 2011, 11:04 AM
Yeah he's always been really good in the past and lets minor things slide but now all inspectors have to send photo evidence to vic roads on everything they inspect.

If he were to send a picture of my brake pedal rubber to vic roads and said he passed it they could come back at him for letting it pass worn so not really his fault just damn vic roads.

My steel lines are HEL brand.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HEL-braided-brake-lines-Toyota-Corolla-1-6-GTi-16-87-92-/260745129395?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb59eedb3
Thats them they say ADR approved but there is no number on them that matches the vic roads site.

They need to be marked SAE J 1401 to be Adr approved can't see this number anywhere.

jakel
19th September 2011, 11:09 AM
Ask for a refund then if they are not actually adr approved?

Jacobxxx
19th September 2011, 11:21 AM
Im running those and always thought they weren't ADR approved.

jakel
19th September 2011, 11:52 AM
I don't know if they are but I just thought if he was told that they where and there actually not. I got mine from AJPS, can't remember if they are but didn't really bother me, maybe get the RW guy to take a picture of a good brake line and then put in the braided lines and all he has to say is that it was fine when he inspected it.

Bluterus
19th September 2011, 11:57 AM
Just went down and saw him. Printed off a link I found that said they're ADR approved and showed him the lines that say FMVSS-106 on them and he was like that's fine I'll pass them. FUCK just spent $80 on new rubber lines so looks like I got some new rubber lines to sell.

Here's a link if you guys need it.

any updates on this?

Bluterus
13th January 2012, 03:09 PM
Not too much got all the suspension in and got RWC and Registration which was my main aim.

It was such a pain to get roadworthy I had to replace the front discs but couldn't get any TE71 discs as the brake shop couldn't find any. So ended up using my ADM86 struts and brakes and they bolted right up to the TE71 steering arms. however 86 and KE70 strut tops wouldn't fit the TE71 strut tower so had to use the TE71 strut top.
I cannot find anything for this car. The rear shoes I had to get rebonded as there are none that suit and the wheel cylinders rebuilt which I'm afraid are leaking as its losing brake fluid but its not dropping it on the ground. I thought wheel cylinders where all pretty similar on corollas guess not.

I'm trying to get things done without having the car apart as the longer the car is apart the longer im de-motivated. So going to spray all my square front guards and boot getting them ready to bolt on. Then I'll spray the doors and body, once thats done I'll rip the motor out and paint the engine bay then throw on all my front guards then all I will have to do is fit my motor.

My last KE70 I lost interest just cause of all the bodywork it needed it was too hard to get the panels even since there were soo many repairs cut out and re-welded in. This being straight as is just rub back and paint so really looking forward to getting it done!
