Hey guys,

So after almost 7 years of shooting and being around cars I finally made a purchase, a Toyota KE70. I have to give most of the thanks to Robo for finding this mint one up north within an hour or so of deciding I wanted to buy one, I think it was meant to be! The car is a standard KE70 with a 5 speed manual gearbox, the motor runs fine and the body is very straight with very little rust. It needs a few things to freshen it up such as brakes a rear wheel bearing but nothing too dramatic. I think I have made a good choice going with a little Toyota for my first car to learn in and hope to have plenty of fun in it very soon.

Here are a few photos:

As stated above the car is in great condition for something that has been around almost 3 decades. It has had a few minor things done to it to keep it running well such as leads and an oil filter which shows the previous owner had some care for it. We picked it up on Saturday and spent the majority of the day on Sunday servicing and cleaning it up. I have to say thanks to Seamus (70XIN) for driving me up north to pick it up, Robo and Nick for the help on Sunday. The car is going to be kept reasonably simple, quite a bit of suspension work, diff and a nice set of wheels. Stay tuned,

Casey.

Managed to get my hands on some falcon rear springs from the wreckers which turned out to be king's.

On the lookout for the flat front Hilux front shocks for the rear and 86 front struts!

Not a great deal of progress on the car yet but I have obtained some fresh gear.

- Falcon King Springs from the wreckers
- New rear taillights
- New radiator
- New Thermo
- Oil and fuel filters
- Oil and coolant
- Drive belt
- Spark plugs

Hopefully get these in the car some time this week which will help freshen things up a little bit! Hoping to get RWC and Rego within the next couple of weeks!

Still on the lookout for a pair of 86 struts! Let me know if you know of any!

PS: Tx to Jon (silver styler) for some parts!

Hey guys,

A little update to share with y'all. Test fitted Robos 14x7J +0 (UEO Spec) TE37s last night. Note: The ride height has been photochopped to see what they will look like when all the suspension is in. The wheels sit almost perfectly in line with the guard so I'm pretty happy about that. They aren't my wheels but I'm having strong thoughts about purchasing them! I have had a lot of mixed comments about what they look like but to be perfectly honest I'm in love.

Today I also got a tiny bit of work done under the bonnet! New plugs, oil and oil filter. Hopefully I'll be getting a RWC and Rego soon enough! The 4KC even sounds a lot cleaner with a bit of a freshen up!

To see more photos and a bit of an article check out a blog post here (http://shirtstuckedin.com/2011/11/07/my-ke70/#comments)!

A small update. Today was a good day in the car department.

I manged to pick up:

- Front 86 struts with JDM brakes and hubs, 6kg AJPS springs, KYB excel g shocks and cusco cambertops all reconditioned
- Rear GAB shocks
- Front power steering arms - Robo :girl:

Also chopped the rear falcon king springs I pulled out of a Ford at the wreckers and installed them! The GAB shocks stayed out as the top bolt thread is a little different which I'll sort tomorrow when we install the 86 front end. Here is a little photo on how the rear sits. The Falcon springs were 390mm long and we cut them at 230mm and it seemed to be a perfect length! Can't wait till its level though.

Updates

Haven't updated this in a while so here is how this little whip is coming together.

After purchasing the front setup and installing it I soon realised it was all too high and to convert to coilovers, so the front ended up being this:

-Short stroke KYB AGX front shocks
-8kg springs
-Sleeve kit
-PS Arms
-RCA's
-Cusco cambertops

70X did a killer job at welding (of course) so here is a photo of them all welded up and ready to go in!

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/0/8/9/272874.jpg

Here is a photo of them in, at a reasonably nice height.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/0/8/9/272875.jpg

After spending a bit of time and money on the front I've now realised I want to enhance the rear a little more with heavier and shorter springs and shocks. A few little things to do left and it'll be driving in no time - Bleed and adjust the rear brakes, fix wipers and a wheel alignment. Other things have also been replaced and installed to keep things fresh and running well:

-Panhard rod
-New shoes / drums / cylinders

PS: Huge thanks to 70X, Racsovv and Robo

-Casey

Rego... finally!

Since the coilovers have been fitted a few more little things have been changed. Next step will be to fuck the rear springs off and get some 6kg TRD or AJPS 200mm proper springs that actually fit and some KYB or TRD Blue shocks.

Took it for a nice little drive today alongside Robo in his Zenki

I like the matte finish aswell. Gives it age and character. Do you get much scrub with your wheels and guards like that?

caseyjohnphotography
18th January 2012, 11:59 AM
Future plans will most probably be a 16V. For now just going to concentrate on a few more arms here and there and learn how to drive.

Kyle, na guards are pretty lipped up, a bit here and there though!
