Bought this several weeks ago...I'm sure you can guess who from. Needing a bit of chassis and mechanical work to bring her back.

Couldn't help myself as I have always had a soft spot for the car, having worked on it and knowing its owner.

So far have straightened her back out on the chassis rack with straight panels, bumpers and missing trim from a matching colour st142 wagon.

Sourced another F series diff to replace the raped centre.

And have a xtreme button clutch to go in to again...replaced the raped jobbie currently struggling to hold any load atm.

Removed the half completed aircon, don't need that in TAS, and sorted the mismatched serpentine belt setup it had.

ST141 Wagon

Jza80 2jzge

W58 box

Tarago F-series diff fitted with modified mounts and 4.1 ratio.

Has ma61 front struts with KYB inserts

ma61 front brakes

ra60 extended LCA's

ra60 steering arms

Rear has adjustable panhard rod and kyb's

New urethane bushes all round and new balljoints, tie rod and rack ends all fitted this year.

2 1/2 exhaust, two mufflers and a hot dog and twin rear pipes, is not too loud but has a nice note.

ma61 fuel tank, new internal pump feeding a custom swirl tank with a bosch 044 pump

ma61 radiator and twin 10" thermos

ma61 bucket seats with pumpable internal bladders, Reebok style, farkin comfy farkers they are!

Car has completed and current paperwork for engineering in principle and I have now rego'd it.

Originally only had doors from a sedan, so had to cut and shut the rear wagon frame onto the sedan door.

And swap the glass across as that is also different,

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/251879.jpg

But then found out a friend had bought an st142 wagon for the mechanical, so I bought the shell, which made things easy.

Got myself a Tarago centre and CIG'd it up....only to discover it was the smaller E series from a yr20 or yr21.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/251885.jpg

So I went cross country in search of a diff, first two Torago's were YR21's

Third one was just a rough address I had for WAY out in the sticks, had to stop and ask for directions twice....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/251886.jpg

Found him though, YR22 F series, had to pull it out myself...80 bucks cheerin!

Ok second try with the correct centre...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/252302.jpg

Swapped the flanges across to the one redrilled for the corona shaft...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/252303.jpg

Big axles in these...I likey :)

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/252304.jpg

Also found the front slinger that is usually attached to the tail shaft had come away and was swinging around on the shaft, so pissed that off...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/252305.jpg

Brakes needed two pumps when driving to get a good pedal...adjusted the rear shoes up...all fixed.

And took for a test run tonight....clutch is now totally fragged...was fun finishing it off though :DD

Ok after an evening and a day of shakedown and getting used to the car I've come to a few conclusions.

Suspension is good, and will do for now but could do with an 86 weld on coilover kit later and a front sway bar at some stage.

The poor old shell flexes a bit in the bumps and under hard accel/decel, could do with front strut bar and rear cross brace.

The best would be half cage with tint to keep it looking sleeper.

The F series drums are a bit big for the weight of the car and tend to want to lock the rears when braking deep into a corner :yeah:

a brake bias valve should sort this.

Drive shaft could do with a balance, isn't bad but I'm fussy.

Going to order some project Mu pads for the front.

Needs a tacho.

And a hydro for upcoming practice day.

Grabbed a hydro today of a mate, will run it inline with a land rover 5/8th clutch master.

And rewired the thermo's in with a new plug, they now run the correct direction and thus cool a lot better lol

People quote figures of just over 200kg for the complete engine minus box, so yeah their a bit of porker.

But the power capability and reliability more than makes up for it.

And it doesn't seem to have any detrimental affect on the cars handling over all, give her the boot and it quickly lifts the nose anyway :DD

Fitted the hydro this arvo.

Welded up some 5mm plate to mount it all and passed some studs through the tunnel.

More plate on the other side and the tunnel is double skinned in this area because of the box x-member.

Nice and solid to swing from, will run a new line for the rear at work through the week.

Might also make up a longer and different shape lever depending how I find this one.

Took car for skids a few weekends ago at the local drift prac day,.....old girl LURVES IT!

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/272015.jpg

Handbrake cylinder is all wrong though, they supplied me a 3/4 it seems, which is too big to get any advantage on.

Ended up making a longer handle and gusseting the mount so I could really swing off it, still barely worked :/

I have a 5/8th one to go in now which should be sweet.

Thumped the fark out of the sump a few times on my offroad excursions as it sits a little lower than the crossmember.

Will have a new one fabbed up to sit a bit higher with a larger capacity or find a 1j/2j front sump setup and also fit a BASH PLATE!!! lol

Also picked up some SSR Meshies cheeeep in 16x7" and 16x8"

Unfortunately the eights have a more positive offset and the outer lip is less dished by half an inch.

No probs, I want to strip them for a refurb so I will swap the outer bands around and have 6.5" front and 8.5" rear.

Already measured all my clearances and this should work well with a nice stagger front to rear and more dish on the rear.

Not the other way around as it is at the moment....

Went out to the Baskerville test and tune yesterday, cut some hot laps, set the front brakes on fire and

had a ball in the allocated drift sessions, first time with a working hydro...so so good to be able to set the car up on the entries and so much fun!

Also this...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/288216.jpg

Crank pulleys outer ring went for a walk, first I noticed was the temp was creeping up after a few runs and then I noticed the belt was noisey.

Had a marshal take a lookey, he had some belt grip in the tray of his ute so he starts spraying it on when another marshall walks up an exclaims

'theres a pulley in here' I'm thing 'yeah there's quite a few' not quite understanding what he meant when he reaches down into the engine bay and holds the crank

pulley up http://forum.twincam.org.au/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png

Amazing thing is it didn't hit anything even as tight as it is down there between the radiator and just rolled itself across on top of the castor rod mount!

Even the belt stayed on and if I had a shorter one I could have sneaked home with it.

All good 1j vvti single turdbro on its way and going in between the towers the next few weeks

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/288218.jpg

Should be a torque monster down low, instead of raping it on limiter in second and third with the n/a 2j

should hold third and fourth gear sideways nicely with less revs.

Also scored some 15x8 challengers from a mate, he had them at the track but the offset was wrong for his 1j celica, they fit the rona hellflush

once the lip was persuaded a little with a jack handle, some people in the back and rolling the car back and forth a few times.

1j should arrive this week so the majority of the swap can happen next weekend, engine and box go in from underneath so I will be doing it at a friends workshop with a hoist.

Probably lost about a litres capacity but an oil cooler later on will get that back.

Didn't get a chance to land the 1j in the bay this weekend, Tuesday night to use a mates hoist looks the go now.

Also will have another guy whose a gun on the tig to measure up for the pipe work, modding of some cooler end tanks and the exhaust.

Hope to throw a new timing belt and rear main on tomorrow, and perhaps even swap the 2j water pump on and get rid of the 1j hydraulic setup.

Been chipping away at it with the help of a fabricator friend.

I had a longer accel cable made up to reach the 1j front facing throttle body and a bracket was made up to suit.

Exhaust is done, had to plasma cut a flange as the 1j exhaust housing has a unique bolt pattern and there was nothing on hand.

Its 3" back to just before the diff where it meets up with the existing 2/12" mufflers and pipework.

Runs really nice and tight with the floor, hence the heat wrap, the gearbox x-member is now the lowest point of the undercarriage.

Currently the rad and cooler positioning is being thought out.

Also whilst changing the sparkler plugs out one of the coil plugs fell to bits, old and brittle, luckily enough the next day I was servicing a V6 2000 ish Camry and recognised the coil plugs as similar, checked the numbers and sure enough they are the same. From their it was an easy fix to find some plugs on a loose loom and get on it with the soldering iron.

Radiator is now all mounted, moved it forward to provide enough room for and engine side 12" thermo fan.

Undo three bolts along the top and two down below and it slides straight up and out.

Cooler has bottom brackets done and started on the piping, could have gone a slightly wider core but it was what was available at the time.

Also removed the throttle body to cut the 'traction control' butterfly from the end which will allow for a nicer radius on the piping.

All the piping is now done, top cooler mount is done and ties the bonnet latch in nice and solid.

Took the car to Symmons Plains raceway today for the drift practice, what a day!

Car ran absolutely flawlessly after only first starting it at 3am yesterday!

Friend wired her all up sweet as a nut with all deutsch connectors. Cheers Marty!

Ran without a temp gauge and the fan just rigged up on a switch, probably was keeping it a bit too cool.

Will fit a thermatic switch for the fan and 'T' into the water supply hose that feeds the water cooled sandwich plate to fit the defi water temp sender this week.

Thing is tops to drive, instant low down response and a hint of factory dose from the plumback. :p

Ran with Falken avenzis semi's on the front and Federal 595 evos on the rear, with the extra grip and grunt a few suspension tweaks are planned next.

this is awsome, challengers look good on it too

The challengers are great, the higher neg offset and track even with them being 8's allows moar lock than the old 7" supra rims did as well.

Also was up it for the rent in second gear yesterday and managed to find a short sudden deep dip in the road which unloaded and loaded the rear.

This was the result...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/318006.jpg

Yep double banga, both at the same time. Though my theory is they may have already been badly twisted.

Left a heap of twisted and splintered spline in the centre and I don't like my chances of cleaning it out with any great success.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/318007.jpg

I have another diff in stock albeit minus a usable crownwheel and pinion, so I will have to swap the crown onto the other centre and reset the backlash tommorow.

And hopefully that lasts long enough till I can get a G series Lux diff into the back.

Totally agree, when funds permit a limited slip will be the g-o, perhaps even a G series, until then getting it back together will suffice.

Also making some changes to the rear as axle tramp is also a slight issue, which along with the welded centre as you say sundee, is a real axle killer.

So swapped the spare welded centre I had over, swapped the crown wheels, engineer blued it to set the backlash just nice and fitted it all back up into the car with fresh, non split like raw carrots, axles today.

Also G series don't have any LSD options that I'm aware of.. I may be wrong though.

I didn't do the original 2j conversion, but as far as I'm aware it utilises the original corona x-member with modified welded in new sections between

Land/Range rover rubber mounts and then jza80 engine mounts to the block, which is the rearward of the two available positions on the block.

The jzx100 mounts as I found sit on the forward position on the block, but as is the beauty of these engines all was interchangeable.

The 2j had a modified pan section as it used the jza80 mid sump, now the 1j has a front sump which had to be notched for the corona front bar...

ADGP had their first round down here in Tassie at Symmons Plains raceway last weekend, so I took the opportunity to get some more track time and entered in privateer class.

Had a ball rang dangin' the f^&* out of the old girl all weekend.

Qualified 14th in a sea of Nissans but was knocked out from there, first event I have ever entered so it was great to watch and learn and a awesome two days of track time.

Car still tramps like a bitch, I reckon my pinion angle may be the problem so I'm going to try some traction brackets.

Going to fit an AJPS rack spacer which should complement the lengthened LCA's nicely.

Need to be order a front bar sway bar v soon also as the thing just rolls around too much.

Also feels a little down on power, I have a feeling the extreme button clutch is starting to waver a little, will thrash it till it dies and then probably go a custom NPC single plate jobbie and chromoly fly.

Real PITA as the box out and in isn't very straight forward in this thing.

Then some springs, front shocks, RCA's and camber tops all in time and as the $$$ are forthcoming.

Seems the 86 traction brackets wont fit these.

Are the rear upper and lower arms the same length/close to 86's in these?

The crush tube widths for the bush mounts are the same according to the Nolathane catalouge, so thinking if the lengths are close I may be able to use a set of 86b adjustable arms.

Out with the tape measure tomorrow I spose.

Theory is pinion angle needs a change (in conjunction with a few other details), so I got on the phone to Mcdonald Brothers racing and had them send me some 3/4 UNC turn buckles and nuts.

Then took them and a set of top arms to my fabricator and had him do his magic...

Tail shaft setup to be attacked next after this weekends practice, at which point I expect the current clutch to be raped beyond reprimand...

Yeah, it's just a good community of car people we've got down here I spose, don't know what I would do without them.

Pinion angle change has transformed the car, no tramp and just lays the rubber down!

Clutch is now three parts shagged, so I have a big arse custom NPC jobbie and and matching chromoly fly to go in before round 1.

Highlight of the day was getting given a set of half worn tyres that where unbeknown to me coloured smokers.

Did put a smile on my face when I looked in the rear vision mirror to see clouds of blue purple smoke out the back!

Was also good to be back at Baskerville, such a fun track, shits on Symmons IMO for driver enjoyment rating.

Did a clutch change last week, now has a custom NPC jobbie, based on a modified Exedy 7mgte pressure (I think?) plate and a 5 button sprung centre.

Much larger than the one I had in there, it only contacted about 75% of the flywheel face, this one engages the whole face.

Had to have the bolt holes on the fly redrilled and tapped as they are offset different but the dowels where spot on.

Also discovered why the clutch had prematurely shit itself. The master cylinder was holding residual pressure and not letting the slave return, basically like driving around with your foot resting on the pedal all the time:thumbdown:

Gots a bit hot...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/346254.jpg

Threw a new master in and all was sweet...until a coolant puddle appeared under the car the next day, appears that when dropping the engine down and tilting it back on the engine crossmember to get the box in and out I had crushed a heater hose clamp at the rear of the head.

This was the only way I could get to it...ffffaaaaarrrr >|

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/346256.jpg

Bit of a job as the loom had to be stripped basically completely from the other side of the engine and then there was not enough room to slide the manifold of the studs, so had to remove those in place etc etc, another late night on a weekday before an event but got it done.

Made it out to RD1 of the Tassie drift series that Saturday, 54 ENTRIES!!!

Qualified 27, nearly made it through the first battle but tipped it in a bit late on the last corner and went a bit deep putting the wheels on the turf on the way out.

All good still looking for some more consistency, but the car loved it :yeah:

Car now has some radiator ducting thanks again to Crawf at WeldLogic, temps were just creeping too much on the track and approaching the mid 120's!

And there just isn't any space for another fan.

Took it for a run on Friday night and basically left the fan off and it sat on a steady 90 the whole time.

Might look at running a lip to duct the air up at the bottom and a lower plate that extends along under the lower rad panel till just behind the pulleys to stop any air reversing behind the rad.

Also waiting on AJPS 6kg springs and seats ordered for the rear (common Dave! lol), still combating tramp, that should be an improvement on cut pedders crappers.

Then need to look at a shorter stroke shock, anyone have some TRD blues for sale???

AJPS springens sprungen into work on Friday afternoon just is time for Rd 2 on Saturday, cheerin!

Slipped them in with the adjustable seats and set the pinion angle to 2 1/2 degrees with a gauge after work and the difference is amazing.

Have only been able to drive the car in the wet but axle tramp is all but non existent now.

Rd2 on Saturday was fecking drenched, it only stopped raining for the expression sessions in the afternoon, still very wet though.

That was also about the time I came to my senses and changed the worn S comp semi's I had on the front for some fresh rubber and was able to knock some good runs out, duh!

Had a ball in spite of the treacherous conditions though. Common Rd3 and some front end tweaks inbetween!

Had a think about diff options today and decided whilst I have the F diff apart it's worth while having the housing checked for straightness...

Thinking back to the last time I aligned the car at work it did have some neg camber and toe in on the RH side...not ideal for a solid axle

May be work hardening the axle at the centre, that in conjunction with the dirty slapping tramp I did have might explain eating axles

Just an option before I drop coin on an upgrade.

Scored a diff locally earlier in the week, the thing had been used in a friends ae71 sr20 powered corolla.

The axles are slightly twisted at the splines so I picked the best of the two and slipped it in to make it a go for the practice day yesterday.

First time back at Baskerville with the AJPS 6kg springs in the back, pinion angle set spot on and a pair of TRD blue short stroke adjustables I scored which were slipped on at the track just after scrutineering.

OMG its a fuckin different car, just hold the thing nailed everywhere and the rear is steady as a rock, no tramp, no wallow, just drive & smoke!

Very happy as not only is it tops to drive now I can finally move on to doing some front end tweaks.

Awesome stuff. What suspension are you using???

Its all back in the thread but...

Front...
MA61 front struts and brakes
RA60 power steering arms
Lengthened LCA's
Cut king springs...yuck
KYB inserts
all urethane bushing

Rear is a 4.1 F series diff from a YR22 Tarago van here in oz with mounts modified to fit the rona pick up points
Custom adjustable top arms for pinion angle adjustment
AJPS 6kg ae86 front springs(to fit the seats noice) and adjustable seats
TRD blue short stroke 8 way adjustable ae86 shocks
Custom adjustable panhard rod
and again all urethane bushings

Sway bars are stock

So pretty much standard parts in the front but a good combination for good steering axis inclination, castor, camber and lock

Only just locks over centre at the moment which seems to be a toyota front end trait when going for lock with knuckles etc

Stay tuned for front end mods

Housing has to be out of wack, didn't get it checked last time as I only found some axles two days before the last event.

The theory about the housing.....yep was definitely warped as can be seen in the vid below.

Anytime brackets are swapped on a housing this should be checked, which in this case didn't happen before I bought the car..... and me four axles later....

So housing straightened, fresh axles and centre and a solid spacer in the pinion and she should be good for lots of skids yet!

Housing was out 6mm on the RH side, enough to be an issue and 2mm on the LH

Back together with a 4.3 centre which is great, thing gets up and goes like a cut cat...but it howls its arse off!

I swapped the pinion flange with the one redrilled for the Rona shaft and have set the preload way to high me thinks /:

Bought a parts shitter last Monday cheep and stripped it for all I needed on Saturday.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/401166.jpg

Then stripped mine down, sent the dented cooler pipes down the road to Crawf at WeldLogic and got the old man onto the job of swinging the dollies and hammers.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/401168.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/401170.jpg

Wasn't to bad, just leant the top of the rad panel back and crumpled the L/H guard and headlight brackets a bit.

Few splits here and there needed a little welding to firm things up again, radiator had a nice little twist in it but came back into shape easy enough with some persuasion.

Had another blue bonnet in stock so bolted him on, replaced L/H light, indicator and guard which will have to be painted this week as all the blue ones I had were gone.

Slipped another grille in and straightened the stone guard out...all done.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/401172.jpg

Did notice though whilst I had the radiator out that the crank balancer pulleys bonding rubber is fairly cracked, I had the 2j one come off on the track, and Toyota specifies they be replaced at the 100k interval with the timing belt.

So I better get myself a balancer and slip it on this week methinks!

Yeah, he finds it handy having a son who's a mechanic often enough though Matt, so we keep it pretty even with the favours...generally :P

I was in luck with my pulley, slid off without using a puller haha!

The Sunday past saw the front of the engine stripped and a new front seal fitted to replace the weeping jobbie in there, a new tensioner and pulley fitted and a new dampener/drive pulley fitted.

Wasn't happy with the tensioner and pulley when I changed the belt last but I didn't have the parts on hand, so I used this time round whilst swapping the balancer to throw them in as well.

Made some more clearance for the cooler pipes and just generally tidied up some details in the engine bay.

Tonight rubbed and two pak primered the front guard and mixed some paint up from the cars paint code.

LA Blue Mettalic, would be a noice colour straight of the gun, has me considering giving the thing a quick sand and flash over with the gun soon....

Seal is for a 4 cylinder! 1j/2j it seems :p

Gotta love the AFM 1j, seeing 17.5 pound town gradually dropping to 15, no fuel cut in sight

Torque is 750nm pretty much flat from 2500rpm across the board, fuck me no wonder this thing is a ball to drive!

Couple of updates

Car pinged pretty hard on the dyno, which is partly it needs some ignition pulled out of it...

But over the following days the 044 got louder and louder, and the car wanted to ping like a popcorn machine when on load, so I thinks the lift pump is dying....

It didn't even have any power to it! for gawd noes how long so the 044 was trying to suck through two filters and a stationary intank pump lol

Couldn't find the relay or fuse for it which must be stuffed up under the dash somewhere?? so just pulled shared power from the 044 for now until I wire a separate relay and supply for the lift.

Plan is to do a bit of a wiring tidy up when the power fc and kinugawa get fitted.

Also changed the plugs back to the recommended platinum/iridium twin electrode plugs and the car runs much better.

The copper type v-grooves that were in there indicated the car was running quite lean whilst the lift pump was off line, very clean and bright white!

Took it out to a recent prac day and had a ball trying out some 215/45 r17's on the back.

Soo much more lateral grip and stability and lots more drive!

Expensive Japanese gameboy turned up today.

Looking forward to getting it on with the Kando and its larger comp housing and wheel.

Standard injectors for now and still factory dump pipe but I will port and smooth up the internal gate in the factory exhaust housing a bit before I swap it onto the back of the kando.

Should be nice and responsive still and just make a bit more in the top end...and no moar pinging!

hey man currently putting a 2jzge in a cressida, and was wondering how did it go drifting in the wagon. easy or alotta revs/speed?

2jzge was tops, had to be up it for the rent to keep it in its happy place tho, but it's doable and was a great engine to start off with and get a feel for things.

Banged some 17's on the bum last prac day and dug the extra grip and drive all round!

17 x 9's +20 BBS knock offs, 215/40's

will still run the 15 x 8 -7 challengers on the front when drifting tho to keep my track and lock

also a bit heavy with 215's and no power steer!

and I shit you not the thing just fell off into my hand!

Not a moment too soon for the kando it seems lol

Same, haven't had a chance to get it on the dyno yet.

Gave it a quick road tune the night before Rd 4 of the Tas Drift Series, and the following day in 32 degree heat it pinged it's face of again :S

Ended up turning the boost back to about 8 pound at the track after a few runs, dropped about ten degrees timing out of the map and had the injectors maxed out.

Surprised I didn't lose the engine, it literally sounded like a pop corn machine under heavy load! So it was real doughy to drive and had fark all grunt all day, still chaffed em up enough to have some fun though!

Qualified 13th, got through the first round of but was knocked out in the 16 against Lloyd Smith and finished 13th overall for my first season, pretty happy with that :)

So fuel aeration is the cause of the detonation and has been a gremlin in this car for a good while now, decided to simplify and future proof the fuel setup. Going to run a 30L Jazz foam filled fuel cell which will gravity feed a new bosch 044, simple and not circulating fuel around back and forth through a swirl tank and a bunch of fittings and hoses flat stick and no sloshing around in the tank.

Plus later on if I decide to run E85 the plastic tank is much better with the alcohol fuels, E85 seems to hate steel tanks and leaves a chalky white residue everywhere inside them.

I hope to have the tank mounted in under the car, some Injector Dynamic 725cc's fitted and a tune before Powercruise down here at the end of the month.

All the aeroflow fittings and mounts are here with an inline micron filter and a one way valve.

Had the hole for the return in the top of the tank plastic welded up, it will be moved to the side so as the tank can be mounted hard up under the floor.

Booked in for a tune Monday arvo so I better get this thing mounted over the weekend.

Tanks all mounted and 10mm lines are run for both the supply and return with 13mm 'P' clamps.

Managed to use the factory tank straps as they were the perfect width for the recesses in the Jazz cell and reused the factory insulators between the straps and tank.

Had to move one strap in slightly on its mounts as the distance between the two was slightly narrower.

Just cut into half of the spare wheel section and boxed it, ran some sticky sided sound deadener sheet up into the underside where the tank sits with some rubber sheet as

well for insulation.

Mounted the 044 on a plate off of the drivers side strap, welded some studs into it and folded it to mount on the chassis on the other side for some extra support and ran

some rubber again for insulation just where it curves around the corner of the tank.

Clearance is acceptable, the bottom of the pump is about equal with the flattish oval rear muffler.

It is also offset to the drivers side slightly as that meant I could pretty much use the original strap location and it keeps it clear of the exhaust and leaves room in what is left

of the spare wheel well for a battery box on the passenger side when I finally relocate the batt.

Also added in an extra breather, there is one built into the cap but its more designed for a carb car, its an extra -6 fitting next to the return and runs some of the 10mm line I

had left over up into the void in the guard left from the filler neck which is higher than the top of the tank and then it makes two full loops before having a cap headed bolt in

the end with a 2mm hole drilled through.

how'd the tune go?

how'd the tune go?

Went well, Andrew at Pro Automotive ran it up on the rollers and was getting AFM voltages all over the shop, turned out the factory plastic intake pipe had a crack on the underside of the bend. So ran up the road and had Tas Mobile Mechanics in house fabricator stick some metal stuffs together whilst the boys ran down the road and sorted some silicone joiners and clamps to get the show back on the road...Legends!

Ran her up again and tried to twist some boost into it but even with the screw bottomed out on the turbotech boost T it wouldn't see more than 13 psi. Pulled it out and checked it and the ball and spring were all there in the correct order, tried again, same thing....pulled it out and gave the seat inside a tap with a small pin punch a viola, the ball wasn’t sealing on the seat correctly.

Spun it up again and on 15.5psi and made 215kw, still quite rich especially in the top end and it wanted to start detonating slightly down low with more than 15.5 psi, the turbo just
starts running out of efficiency and there was no advantage with running more boost and less timing.

As anticipated it now holds a solid amount of boost to redline, the difference is very noticable in the top end it just keeps pulling and the response is still near instant down low
with gob loads of torque all through the rev range.

The tune was done on standard injectors and is very much on the safe side regarding the AFR's so there is some left in it, Andy had a heap on leading into the week before
Powercruise and Targa this week so he got it in as good and safe as he could with the few hours he could allocate my car.

It may go back for a tidy up in the next few weeks if I don't first fit some injectors and teflon braided fuel line, then its E85 all the way!

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/9/7/504488.jpg

Intake pipe has the bay looking better, still need to make a cold air box and move the batt to the rear then the oil cooler can have a cold air box in its place.

Kando high flow oil seal appears to be shot, poor things copped a hiding when the car was running lean with fuel pump issues so I don't blame it.

Going to have a break from the drifting for a few rounds to get some things sorted on the rig,

so its Kando T67-25G with 10cm rear housing time!

http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/kinugawaturbocharger4t67-25gt310cmv-bandhousing.aspx

Mate has a CAD for the 1j vvti flange so I'll get the local pressure jet guy to bash one out and have my fabricator brew up a steam pipe manifold with an external gate.

The J pipe will be flicked so an intake pipe and hot side cooler pipe will have to be made up.

The cooling system ABSOLUTELY needs some attention, it just doesn't cope, depending how radical the change is with the rad and cooler pipes a larger front mount

may also happen. Even considering some wild shit like a small second rad in the rear next to the fuel tank

Injectors and E85

And....I might even put a decent seat in it and finally get rid of the chopped front springs and standard shock for some coilovers http://forum.twincam.org.au/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

Was fun hope they have another again soon.

Did a little to the old bus the last few weeks, finally continued the 3" pipe all the way to the back of the car with a single 3" muffler

it was so quiet as can be heard in the vid above, it now sounds like a proper 1j rasp now, without being disgustingly loud.

Also removed the factory 'J' pipe intake and recirculation valve and banged out a custom intake with a couple of barb fittings for the breather and the ICV

mounted the boost tee directly into the comp housing which is much neater and gave the heat sheild a hit with the high temp VHT.
