Hey Guys, kinda new to AE86DC, come over from the nissan darkside but this build carries a bit with it haha

Semi copy of first post from ns.com-

Will start this off with a bit of back story...

Bought my silvia a few years back, first import first turbo etc. When i bought it i barely knew how to change a wheel, learnt alot with that car, quickly learned how to waste cash changing plans every two seconds, hopefully i avoid that this time around...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/4/0/4/8/268499.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/402/img01571t.jpg/)

Took it off the road near the start of the year with intentions for it to see a few track days. 5 stud, wider wheels adjustable sus arms and a solid cradle went in along with other bits. Got it defected within ten minutes of driving after months off the road, let it sit in the driveway, cleared in a few months after.

During this time i picked up a daily for a measly 500 clams off a mate of a mate.

It was an ex nanna ke70 with 360,xxx kms on the clock, cleaned it up, got it running flawlessly.

Then proceeded to have the most fun in a winter i have ever had in a car. This only made more apathetic to the siliva, and i let it grow layer upon layer of dust while i spent my time attempting to kill a 4k (Oil starvation? no dice)

Soooo about a month back i made the decision to sell the sill and purchase something more suited to my needs...

Wanted something i really didnt give a f**k about panel damage and paint, the sil was clean, and i wanted something not-so. Looked around at a few more s-chassis cars, but couldnt decide on one whilst trying to sell my own was difficult

Spotted this KE on gumtree, had been setup with an SR previously, and it caught my eye instantly

Went down for a look and the owner was perfectly honest about everything, and for the price the setup was something that came well within my budget and suited my needs perfectly. A deposit went down on mine that next morning and it went straight onto the KE

The previous owner being a f**king champ dropped the car off at mine, specs list from FS add below

Ohlins coil overs front
R31 Skline diff with mini spool
front mount cooler
Helps 3/4 roll cage
Full exhaust
RB20 gear box
S13 silvia front brakes
Full s13 gear upfront, crossmember, rack, LCA's
Helps shortened castor rods
Bolt on Flares
Adjustable rear traction arms
New rear springs (5kg) and shockers for drifting
helps knuckles
15 by 8 Rota rb's (queue haters)
Big fuel pump with lifter pump and surge tank
Hydro HB

Also came with some other bits and pieces, for the price i was happy with it and it should serve my needs much better than the silvia

The Plans?

Bought an SR, just a stocko blacktop with bugger all k's
After that will look at pintara diff gears (4.11) as this still has standard 31 gears, unsure if auto or manual
Will be planning to hit up as many possible drift pracs and events as cash permits next year, so hopefully should be updating this thread with some horrible attempts at drifting, and giving a million and one reasons why i should stick to a streeter haha

But il give it a crack!

Cosmetic wise, my first impressions were that i wanted to go back to big flared metal guards, but the flares have grown on me

Excuse the shit pics, rolled it into the carport and rolling it out while i have 4 cars here is kinda difficult http://nissansilvia.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.png
---

Aiming to have this going right after xmas and depending if i have cash leftover it will come out at matsuri here http://nissansilvia.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

fitted seat, just chasing down parts for the exhaust, going 3 inch into twin 2.5 inch sidepipes
Love sidepipies, almost did them on my silvia when i was dailying it haha!

bought other little bits like pod filter boost tee, fender mirrors etc, lots of vaccum line, got all my loom sorted with an SR afm plug the last bit of the puzzle

Got a chrome rear bar but cant fkn find a front one in Adelaide http://nissansilvia.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/hammer.gif

SR should go in monday/tuesday night, Cant wait http://nissansilvia.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/w00t2.gif http://nissansilvia.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/w00t2.gif http://nissansilvia.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/w00t2.gif http://nissansilvia.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/w00t2.gif

Chilling with the 4by4 daily (fixed thanks to mr makita now)

went to pick up the original IC piping from the previous owner, and the champ also threw in some gauges

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/4/0/4/8/268967.jpg

Also decided on going back to normal guards, will try to track some some ok condition white fronts ( PM if you have any )

and some haggis fronts to weld onto rears

Will also mean i can pump some more castor into the front as it fouls on the bolt ons as is, and trimming them looks arse

SR is in, prick of a job, fuck all clearance

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/4/0/4/8/280281.jpg

Going to chop up the firewall for more dump pipe clearance and a bigger trans tunnel, dump pipe is rubbing on firewall as is

Just waiting on some silicon joiners from ASD and a manual TPS plug and it should be running by the end of the week

But had a bit of a setback the other night... :'(

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/4/0/4/8/280282.jpg

My gorgeous daily met her match getting rear ended hard by a driver who needs to pay more fkn attention and slow the fuck down >|

going to gank the front guards for the fronts of the SR one and will suss out some others to weld onto rears

will part out what i can so if you are interested in bits let me know, shell is fubaaaaaaaaar ofc

that sucks about the crash dude, SR one looks good saw it for sale on gumtree, wicked price for the setup.
what fender mirrors are on the cream one?

luke04
21st January 2012, 09:56 AM
Yeah i priced up doing most of that work to the cream one, for the price i got the white one for you cant argue, shitloads of work on the shell and sus

just ebay $40 mirrors man

declan
21st January 2012, 08:19 PM
the 31 diff conversion itself is a couple of grand haha.
are the fender mirrors spring loaded base?

luke04
22nd January 2012, 02:10 PM
I have no idea of the exact details on the 31 diff conv, but isnt it just a case of chopping mounts from the ke70 diff and moving them onto the skyline diff?

and nah not spring loaded man

are they CYB flares for ae86? got any other pics. reminds me of mine :)

luke04
25th January 2012, 10:09 AM
dont have the best pics cause it rarely comes out from under the carport haha

AFAIK they werent ae86 ones because he had issues getting them to fit well, they are a universal one from boostworx over here in SA, presume same as jjr universal ones

In other news, turns out the assesor that looked at the car is a mad old school toyota fanboy, had a good chat for 20 minutues and got a pretty boss cost to buy it back with a decent amount of coin still my way

front guards and mirrors are spoken for, as are seatbelts and passenger seat, all other std bits are up for grabs including a pair of ma61's in decent condish and some 4 spoke 14x7 start jap rims in decent offset

will get details of the rest once i see whats salvagable

Still having issues with ignition on the white car though, need to double check some wiring... :(

Update

Got everything 100% together but engine still wont crank, ECU has power and relays tick over, fuel pump primes and engine is getting fuel

Dodgy China rad decided it had little leaky leaky also

Going into Cece at Jaustec this week hopefully to get it sorted

Holy bump from hell

il try to update this with what I remember, it’s only 830 and I’m already counting down to home time…
So in the year I neglected build threads-

had to re-do engine loom as we could never get it to fire on all four (trying to troubleshoot something that’s done in all red wires is a nightmare)
Worked a treat
‘Drove’ it at last years SMM/G7 drift techniques…
And when I say drove, that’s a pretty operative term, I was preeettyyy horrible…
First time in the car that’s only moved under its own power two days before… So got there with no alignment, still with an Alternator wiring loop chilling with a test light in the engine bay (actually its still there today…) and the longest I drove the car was off the trailer that day.
Safe to say I took a lot of adapting to an e7 with moderate power and decent suspension setup. The knuckles were ridiculous, I never realized how utterly shit they would feel until then. So hard to handle compared to stock setups

Couldn’t grasp skid pan or anything for the life of me. Spent the day doing donuts…
28636

Packed up early and headed home, first thing Monday morning it got rego, threw a sickie next day, got the alignment sorted and proceeded to drive it practically every night. Enjoyed it much much more and realized how much a proper alignment effects things

Also changed wheels around this time
15x8-11 SSR reverse mesh
http://imageshack.us/a/img191/1637/img2064.png

15x8.5 -13 heroes mesh
http://imageshack.us/a/img14/8758/img2067.png
Tried to blast them on, leg hairs hated life
http://imageshack.us/a/img825/7317/img2068a.png

Did matsuri, had a blast, drove a bit better but really should be back on stock knuckles.

People were more interested in the car carrier/bus we came in though, will try to dig up photos of that

Parts have progressively come in as I can’t control my credit card spending…gone to a stiffer and lower rear end with AJPS bits, worked on the cooling system as it was sitting above 100 all day at matsuri ( Gktech fan, r33 fan shroud, proper ducting). Gktech sump, few cosmetical changes, revised fuel system to fix surge issues.

Masturi vid- I throw some pretty neat 360’s at turn one….

kwY_fvrIJgo

Did a few more pracs, fixed flares and fitted fender mirrors which look like arse :/
Threw the keys to a mate who lets me borrow his trailer ( note, gas lift trailers are the shit!)

Watched him nearly end up with Stewy bryants 32 four door lodged in the radiator support at turn one. Keep an eye on my mirrors for terminator light!
G-Odl3Wl1CY

Think this was just before that prac

http://imageshack.us/a/img254/3451/img2069p.png
Just getting back from a few weeks away on holidays, have ripped off the front end and decided to go back to metal guards. R31 LCA’s going in, castor being wound in a tad (currently 6 deg) and might mess around with the strut tops to compensate. Have a common issue currently with LCA bushes being flogged out due to the castor, last resort is rose jointed LCA’s so will just wind it back for now.
Didn’t realise how high we put the bolt on flares till I sat standard guards on-

http://imageshack.us/a/img404/6019/img2070.png

S13 front end, standard guard

Got other more wheels coming from streeter and another pair of mesh on their way, need to harass a mate about some pintara diff gears as these 3.7’s mean I struggle to use 3rd in the esses :(

Will try to keep this updated a bit more, car has been reliable as all hell, just struggling for seat time as I’m always relying on others to tow me. Really need to solve this ‘tow car’ situation, boring daily cars suck

clean looking car mate, i've noticed it around the pits at mallala a few times now.

luke04

Cheers mate, it's far from clean though! Good from far far from good

luke04
7th June 2013, 04:50 PM
Started pulling it to bits to fit 31 control arms and check the condition of the rest of the front end.

http://imageshack.us/a/img824/8323/img2074ap.jpg
Discovered rack end and to rod end had been chopped down on one side to accommodate a lock spacer. Tie rod end had been held on by two threads for a year :/

Pulled LCA’s out, went to put new one in and discovered it originally had 31 LCA’s…

http://imageshack.us/a/img855/1810/img2073mn.jpg
Original on right, recently purchased 31 in centre, and some spare s13 ones on the left

Cracked the sads at the fact I’d wasted time, but once I checked the condition of the LCA bushes, I was happy that I was swapping them over. As expected, they were rooted, and had only been in a year.
Will be running less castor but im still considering rose jointing these LCA’s to avoid further any problems

Had to extend the panhard rod, great bit of kit from AJPS but I think whoever did the diff conversion missed moving the panhard mount? Someone feel free to clarify if that is required with 31 diff’s

Wacked metal front guards on and instantly loved it. It won’t even turn or roll, but that doesn’t matter as the starter motor is cactus :(
http://imageshack.us/a/img843/434/img2080u.jpg

Not fun replacing starter motors when the bolts on the bell housing are 5mm from the firewall, already gone through two thanks to the original wiring problems.

Also got a spirit wing, some volk mesh that landed on mothers doorstep this morning

Yes, the car lives at the parents place, where I don’t live, its pretty cruisy, free storage, free food :)

And somewhere on a boat from Japan are these

http://imageshack.us/a/img541/1563/hashikun1970img600x4001.jpg
15x6.5 unknown offset ( pressure around +15 to +20) Im dearly hoping they are 3 piece, streeter seemed to think so. If so they will cop some wider lips.
And another nardi that was an impulse buy

So at the moment it just needs to be raised a tad up front, bit more flare on the guards, new rack ends cut down to a proper size, another starter put in and an alignment.
Will aim for next prac 29th which will give me shitloads of time to perhaps start on rear guards and get the exhaust sorted

Sorry for the shit photos, will have some better ones once i can roll it out of the carport.

Might as well chuck up one of the few skid pics from matsuri-

Whacked the bolt on flare guards back on for drift prac as i couldn't convince a mate to give them some panel beating love

With alignment sorted and lots of changes to sure up the rear end (adj panhard, 6kg springs & strut brace) i was eager to give it a whirl.

Rocked up, signed in and went straight out. Less experienced group was very, very slow. When I wasn't sitting in line sending snapchats i was stuck behind people who would spin, and then proceed to jump right back out at you. Seriously think anyone who signs into the less experienced group needs to go through a few basics on track etiquette whenever they sign in. 'Not drifting between the cones' isn't exactly a thorough explanation for first timers...

First two sessions were plagued by a huge miss on load. Brought it in and checked the fuel setup as i have had issues with surge before that havent reoccurred since changing to a facet lift pump and running a new return line. Fuel system seemed fine, then a mate went to check plugs. Apparently it pays to tighten spark plugs? wow, could of fooled me....

Went back out, got one lap with it back up to full power, next lap came out of the esses and went grab grab third... Nope, there goes third gear.

So im having to change a box a bit earlier than expected, thrust bearing seems noisy too so im hoping it hasn't killed the clutch with it.

More concerned with how much of a prick of a job this will be. Engine out for sure, then knowing me it will sit as a roller for several months while i collect parts that will never be fitted. Someone come do all the work for me while i cry in the corner.

Making a quick edit of my go-pro footage now, finding it pretty clear i should be trying 3rd through the esses.

Cant hear third go pop, it did get thrown after second was bouncing limiter though haha, but you can hear the rattle

looks good mate, looks like u had a fair bit of fun out there. shame about the box but

luke04
2nd July 2013, 03:02 PM
Cheers dude, yeah was finding a bit more consistency with a fresh alignment that was a slight bit less aggressive than previous.

Trying to chase down a box, people want drug money for rb20 boxes... Not paying wrecker prices when it probably wont last. havent priced up a rebuild but a guy local to here aparrently does good work cheap cheap. The box still selects gears fine. Hopefully should have it all out next weekend and go from there

Only found one photographer from the night, if anyone sees any others, shout out. Need to repaint those front doors.

that looks awesome :)

i feel your pain about motor out. i got one drift prac in in mine, now pulling the motor back out for blown hg. haha. we will strive on hahaha

maybe try hitting up some of the nissan forums?? the get rid of 20 boxes in favour of the 25 ones yeah??

luke04
3rd July 2013, 12:51 AM
Really should recess the firewall and trans tunnel why it's out.

Yeah I'm on Ns more than here so keeping my eyes peeled on there and sau.
Most people go 25 box once 20's let go, so not at many 20 boxes around as you would think

cooter
3rd July 2013, 01:24 AM
I'm thinkin I might just drill holes on the firewall big enough to get a 17 socket and ext to the bell bolts and use rubber grommets to seal them back up after. I have nothing under my dash so access that way is no issue. Will make things a lot easier.

N yea I spose ur right about the 20 boxes. Good luck mate

luke04
3rd July 2013, 10:14 AM
Thats not a bad idea, but then again, i couldnt give two shits about this shell, its haggis anyway.

Seen a few 20 boxes for cheap, but other people want $500+ which is a joke. Same deal with SR boxes. Weak boxes aint worth that much cash... nearly at the point of thinking 25 box but the thought of doing that behind a stock SR just makes me think i need to learn to treat the box a little nicer :)

Bit more power or a higher diff gear will mean i will be able to use 3rd through the esses, so i wont have to upshift from 2nd to thrid on last corner/coming onto straight.

just as a comparison;

on the left is a SR20/RB20/RB30 input shaft
Middle an RB25
Right a GFORCE GSR (Jake Jones's new box)

cooter
3rd July 2013, 12:09 PM
Yea I'm just thinkin it'll be easier than cutting then re welding the firewall.

Wholly shiz, did that gsr box come out of a truck??? It's massive

A mate of mine used to run a 20 box behind his 400hp 26. It lasted ages in drift. He was sayin summin about the 25 boxes havin stronger gears but weaker selector forks to the 20 box

ight wanna confirm that though

luke04
3rd July 2013, 11:27 PM
20 box lasting behind a 26? i find that really hard to believe haha

Hahaha that's what you'd think ey but it held up alright. He sold the car with it

I guess it had enough power to not have to bang gears

luke04

Don't ask questions! Haha

luke04
11th July 2013, 11:26 PM
have barely looked at the car since drift prac, wont be able to get the motor and box out til start of September, which suits me fine as i go to the snow for a week in August.

Started it up and it has a real bearing rattle, my old man thinks it just might be a fucked bearing in the box, either that or yeah thrust bearing gone with 3rd gear. Havent checked oil yet

got bored and cleaned up the garage and tried to fit the chrome bars using std ke mounts.
