Hey guys, I guess here's as good as anywhere to introduce myself.
My name's TJ and I have a bit of a problem. I love classic Japanese cars. Any classic J-Tin. In fact, just this morning I was swooning over an absolutely mint ex-grandpa GH sigma so clean you'd eat your breakfast off it, my gf just told me I was weird.
Thankfully I have enough self control (aided by lack of money and storage space) to not buy every old car that comes up for sale like some people do, but I do own / am involved in a few.

First off is my daily drive, a 1977 Datsun 260Z 2+2

I picked it up in Melbourne and drove it back home to Sydney complete with a misfiring engine and cotton wool suspension.

Since then it hasn't changed cosmetically but it's almost completely new mechanically.

It's now got an L28 fed by three 45mm Webers, high compression and a big lumpy cam. Wails like a banshee at 5500 rpm. The safari spec suspension has been swapped out for adjustable Tokico Illuminas and it steers pretty damn well considering the rest of it is stock.

The old duck is quite charming but I'm actually selling it and I'm strongly considering an 86. That's why I'm here :D

Now my other pride and joy is actually my girlfriends daily. A 1975 Mitsubishi Galant Hardtop (I know, I know, not a Datsun)

This car has been in my family for over 15 years as my dad bought it as a project but never got around to finishing it.

Dad straightened out the panel damage in the front end and had the carpet and the seats re done.
Apart from that the interior is factory original.
So about 3-4 years ago my girlfriend and I bought it off him and got it over the line painting it (cheaply unfortunately) and putting it all back together using as many original parts as I could find, rebuild, repaint or clean up.
Under the bonnet however is is where the originality ends.

That's a Naturally Aspirated Mitsubishi 4G63 twin cam.

With quite a lot of other work and firewall massaging it sits on the original engine mounts and bolts up to the original gearbox. It's all engineered and transformed it into a pretty peppy road car. The turbo'd evo/vr4 motor would have gone in too (same motor essentially) but the engineers cert would have been a little harder to get plus I wanted a daily driver that was easy to drive not a handful every time you pop the clutch.

All it needs now is some nice vintage japanese wheels to finish it off.

These are a bit of a rare breed too. There's not too many of any old Galant getting around but the coupes are especially scarce. Mitsubishi originally intended to bring 3000 into the country but over on www.sigma-galant.com we've not seen one with a compliance/build number much higher than about 1100 and of that there's only about 25-30 known to the forum and even then there's only about 6-7 running and registered.
This one definitely isn't going to be sold.

Also in the works is my Dad's '68 Datsun 2000 Sports that's going to be a complete nut and bolt restoration but that's only just now getting started so there's not too much to report.

Hoping soon to add a hachi to the family :sunnies:

Hahahaha I know what you mean. People think we're crazy when we see an old grandpa/grandma driving their original old Toyota/Datto and we chase them down and give them our name and number for when they want to sell it (well they aren't going to live forever hahaha)

I've got 4 RT104 Coronas and 2 RA40 Celicas. Doesn't help when you live on a farm and no one cares each time you dump another one off lol. That Galant coupe is a work of art man! I know I'll be buried with at least one Corona, don't ever let go of it no matter what!

More pics of the galant please.

Looks especially rad. Drop a 4G63 into a hachi?
