Hey all
Im new to the forum and have got hold of a fairly tidy ke70 thats lived a boring life being owned by several old people, now its going to get some proper treatment :) hopefully i wont slam into a wall anytime soon :P.. plan to keep it as clean as possible.
Its a white flat front 5 speed manual 187000km few decent dents in it apparently some drunk wanker walked over it :S it has a tiny bit of rust starting but nothing major

its 100% stock atm here it is after pulling off the the grandma spec shit and giving it a good tidy up..

Looks really clean, definately a good base to start from. What are your plans for the build?

Yeah it was a good find :) my good mate Jake found it while doing his courier run and we went and convinced the old couple to sell it :P

plans for the build are to put a sr20de in it with good suspension for a fun simple n.a setup to slide :) hopefully everything will come together fairly quickly just have to track down all the parts..

Matt

Almost too clean to slide.... But yeah if your mind is made up it it'll be a fun beast.

It is a ke70 so... just don't drift pig it like most ke's make it like one of the clean ke70 drifters.

4th August 2012, 04:15 AM
what a banged up piece of shit.

haha just kidding, this is awesome! hope to see it 100% the same body wise, with a nice set of rims and a cranky sr sleeping under the bonnet.

oh by the way I noticed you're from wagga... I'm from coota, I'm building a dedicated track ksev at the moment, would love to see this in person one day once it's finished!

cheers, Dion

sam92
13th September 2012, 07:29 AM
Thats the plan :) i wont start the conversion until i have pretty well everything i think ill need so im not just waiting for parts all the time and can just get it done and back on the road asap...

Got any plans for wheels soon?

sam92
13th September 2012, 09:42 PM
Hey Alex was wondering who you were on here :) saw you today don't think you spotted me. yeah speaking of wheels I bought some ma61 wheels today 14x7
Decided to run with something cheap for now haha and they aren't going to attract unwanted attention since having p plates is a big enough magnet

sam92
24th September 2012, 10:33 PM
I got a little bit done today and not so done. i got all my suspension in rcas, ps arms ( stock ones were shit to get off), jdm brakes with rca slotted rotors didnt work out to plan i didnt realise that the stock caliper brackets wouldnt work.

28th September 2012, 10:24 AM
Oh my, that is very fukin nice haha.. Lookin heaps good man can't wait to see it out cruising . Are you gunna drive around for a bit with the 4k before doing the conversion ?

sam92
28th September 2012, 10:50 AM
Cheers man :) yeah it will be on the road for the next 6 to 8 weeks I reckon once I organise my engine to be shipped. Then I'll strip it down work out what I need and don't and shave the Nissan of top of the engine try to make it a bit more subtle. Then conversion time :D

dbr11k
28th September 2012, 11:19 AM
Shit yea! Cruise over too coota so I can check it out ? Haha.. Hopefully by the end of November you will see mine cruising round wagga with L plates on it ;p

sam92
28th September 2012, 02:00 PM
Might come out and check out your build one weekend if I'm not busy. Your not on your L plates are you ? Haha. I'd like to have the sr in an running by the end of the year possibly even driving :)

dbr11k
28th September 2012, 08:36 PM
I lost my licence so have to sit the L's test haha, so im gunna drive the rolla while I have them. That way its still legal, yea man sounds good

sam92
28th September 2012, 10:19 PM
haha what the fuck if never heard of someone going back to their L's you must of done something bad!!!!!! :P
i thought my car would be driving again tonight, i was doing my jdm brake setup and turns out one of the calipers needs a rebuild the guy that sold them to me said they were fine..

dbr11k
29th September 2012, 05:49 AM
Lost it for over 24 months so they make you sit your Ls now lol.. I will check to see if I have calipers in the shed when I get home from work, I might have

sam92
29th September 2012, 09:55 AM
It will be a lot cheaper to just rebuild what I have and I know they will be right then :)

sam92
1st October 2012, 08:50 PM
car is back on the road and feels fucking awesome!! might need to get the right hand caliper checked out its still rubbing slightly and not allowing the wheel to spin freely when i have the car off the ground.
a mate helped me pull it apart and replace the piston and there was a fair bit of rust in there it may just need more cleaning out with some wet an dry..
other then that brakes feel awesome suspension feels good all i have left to do suspension wise is sway bar, bushes and lcas. :)

your trailing arm mounts are so not 100mm off the ground LOL

tidy as like it, i need to get myself a set of MA's

sam92
3rd October 2012, 09:28 PM
Measured everything on flat ground earlier trailing arm mounts clear 90mm, stock exhaust hangs 95mm at lowest point so I stand corrected lol. Cheers man I'm happy with the MA's nice and subtle i think, not too aggressive

dbr11k
4th October 2012, 01:08 PM
Didn't think it looked legal haha, get a set of rims 1" bigger and it should be sweet ;)

Yeah man I should be able to come out there this weekend ill message you on Facebook

Jacobxxx
28th October 2012, 06:08 PM
You'd want something bigger than t for a SR ;)

Don't like black on white, but that's just me haha

sam92
28th October 2012, 09:39 PM
Yeah I don't think I'd run black wheels on it. I'm hoping the t series will get me out of trouble for a while I was going to run a yr22 but the cost, time and effort put me off it for now haha plus it changes the track in the rear

lolwat
28th October 2012, 09:53 PM
locked borgy till you can afford to build a F series

jakel
28th October 2012, 09:56 PM
Should be right as long as it doesn't cop too much abuse just make sure the cw+p are all adjusted properly and it should last a while, oh and keep a spare center and axles haha.

sam92
29th October 2012, 07:50 AM
ill just have to be careful i guess i got the t series really cheap thats why i got it :P if i have to upgrade later then the only thing that will be a pain in the arse is that i have to have another tailshaft made up.

sam92
29th October 2012, 06:38 PM
Got some re001s last week 185/60 superpro bushes for all the front end and new wheel bearings and lca balljoints.
and am now running a bride low max fix back that i bought pretty much new off a mate :)

dbr11k
31st October 2012, 02:08 PM
$50 for a T series can't complain about that !

sam92
31st October 2012, 10:41 PM
Wasn't complaining about it :) just hope I don't break it haha

sam92
4th November 2012, 08:29 AM
Thanks man, the bc's are awesome to drive with not sure about sliding yet. Money well spent in my opinion :)

sam92
10th November 2012, 01:09 PM
some progress this week :)
superpro bushes just need trailing arm and front swaybar D bushes.
xt130 lcas
wheel alignment and re001s on the front
also raised my car all round to clear legal height and look a bit more sensible, place that did my wheel alignment measured aswell to give me a little more confidence.

sr is bolted in now, it still has to come out again for a new clutch and flywheel as they were fucked and also the s15 clutch and flywheel wont work with my rb30 gearbox.

even though i have the rb30 box the shifter position is still a fair way back compared to stock will get a photo at some stage.

sleeper_13
26th December 2012, 10:53 AM
Would probably reccomend cutting a hole in your fire wall will make it possible to reach gearbox bolts unless when you blow the clutch you want to drop the crossmember or pull the engine out to get to them

sam92
26th December 2012, 04:39 PM
I considered it but it doesn't take long to get the motor out if I have to. I got a rb box for free of a mate and another mate rebuilt it on the cheap and I'm going to run a new clutch. Should be fine for a while :)

jakel
29th December 2012, 05:57 PM
My 1uz needs engine out to remove box or I can cut the tunnel up when it needs to be pulled out and weld in a bigger one. Also if you can't get the bolts out without taking engine off how easy would it be to remove the box itself?

sam92
30th December 2012, 11:22 PM
I don't plan on doing any cutting as Im keeping mine as a simple street/track car.
If I have to remove the gearbox I shouldn't have to pull the engine completely out, just undo and bring forward enough to get to the bolts hopefully.
Ill cross that bridge when I get to it :p

sam92
7th January 2013, 11:56 PM
Im slowly getting there and trying to get as much done as i can while im still on holidays, the heat is making it hard to endure though :P
I got a s13 det flywheel off a mate and bought a new exedy hd clutch to suit.
I have also got my fuel system in the boot done, it wasnt as daunting as i first thought it was made simple by a helpful thread here on the forum. i just have to do my clutch master and then the engine can go in and stay in then sort out tailshaft, exhaust, put the 4.3 ratio in my borgy that Casey supplied me and get it adjusted up properly.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/7/4/2/503350.jpg
A bit messy but it should do the job the toolbox is rubber lined and mounted aswell as the lift pump and fuel pump so it should be quiet im hoping haha.

Everything should be done in the next couple of weeks and then the car will be a good looking lump of useless metal until i can get a loom to suit an autech or s15 de motor since the one i got supplied with was cut at the ecu and at the firewall so im missing a metre or more of wiring and have no idea what to do yet.
so my car most likely wont be at winton matsuri like originally planned unless i work something out soon which im having no luck with.

sam92
8th January 2013, 12:37 PM
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/7/4/2/538456.jpg
just to give an idea of what im dealing, there is a fair bit of missing wire. anyone that can offer any advice from previous experience would be appreciated

sam92
20th January 2013, 02:04 AM
Instead of the usual Saturday night I decided to stay in and get shit done. I have a loom now so a mate came round and started getting into the wiring and trying to teach me "still does my head in" and we got it to start by about 1am for about 5 seconds, was flippin Loud running off the extractors and I thought I'd show I little consideration for the neighbours (top bloke).

Should have it driving in the next couple of weeks I hope, I didn't enter winton matsuri unfortunately because of lack of funds, not having a cage etc.

Anyways I'm sick of talking to myself. Sorry for the novel and lack of photos I get to distracted in wanting to finish the car haha

Casey-G
20th January 2013, 12:30 PM
Keep at it Sam.. its apparently all worth it once its running.. :S

I'll be missing matsuri as well, let's try and make the next vicdrift day?

sam92
20th January 2013, 06:28 PM
Will be ready for the next vic drift day for sure and ill have time to fix any little problems that pop up :) just hearing it finally run has given me the motivation to get it done haha

sam92
5th February 2013, 06:36 AM
sooooo hopefully it will be out on the road by the weekend :) literally just waiting on my tailshaft to be made and have to wire up the tacho.

I think the exhaust is going to be a little on the loud side im running a magnaflow cat and a lukey muffler ill see how it sounds actually driving and not in the garage and then possibly add a muffler.

By the way i bought a mx73 last week and as a bit of a safe car to drive around when i know the cops will be out and about ;) no real plans for it probably just going to keep it completely stock.

Wagga has (smart) cop cars now that can scan every plate around them and it flags up as unregistered and any offences you have committed etc. they are sneaky as, cant even tell they are a cop till you have pretty much passed them.

Scary shit :(

Was off the road for about 6 weeks.

It Ran awesome on its first run. Then i Went around the visit the gf and it started to get a misfire and stalled fiddled for an hour and got nothing so I had to bail and leave it on the side of the road :(

sam92

FML after all the trouble and having to find another loom thats where the problem is again. i have all my fuses fuel system relays and ecu in my glovebox and whenever you move wires about in there the car fucks up.
A mate and me have been spending hours trying to single out which wire it is as we are sure its right down at the ecu end of the loom but after replacing a couple that seem to be a problem we are just getting the same result so far..

Casey-G

also if it was a 4a conversion I'd suggest looking for a loose earth, maybe check them all anyway?

Car doesn't like missus..

Damn she might have to go then, I can't have that.

sam92
11th February 2013, 09:28 AM
Sounds dumb, but make sure your ecu plugs are pushed all the way in!

also if it was a 4a conversion I'd suggest looking for a loose earth, maybe check them all anyway?

Me and Harry have been going over everything earths are fine, earth wires in the loom may be a different story. Harry has nailed it down to being in the glove box, when the car is running you wiggle wires and it shuts off. Problem is trying to wiggle individual wires without moving the ecu or other wires so that we can track exactly which one is causing the problem

Casey-G
11th February 2013, 09:48 AM
Check all pins are in the ecu plugs properly.. unloom it all and with the car running wiggle each individual wire

Casey-G
11th February 2013, 10:49 AM
Lol

"Sorry love.. car keeps breaking and needs attention.. I have to make a choice"....

That would go down well, followed by a barrage of well.. all that stuff they do.

sam92
11th February 2013, 12:41 PM
That's exactly what we have been doing man but its hard to wiggle individual wires with moving anything else slightly.

And yeah she just asks every now and then why don't I just have sex with my car lololol

Casey-G
11th February 2013, 12:52 PM
Hahahahaha...

Yeah.. well best bet is to definitely take all looming covers n tape off.. might end up a bit messy.. but it will be worth getting anything in the way out of the way.. will also make repairs to the wiring easy if actually needed..

I know funny things happen when the shielding on the cables for like ignition..knock sense.. and other things like the pickup from the dizzy aren't continues from the ecu to the sensor.. so maybe look at that.. and make sure your power grounds aren't directly connected to your sensor ground n such.. it will make havoc of your fault finding attempts.. might be best to look up the wire colours on that particular ecu/engine loom on a diagram or something to make sure they haven't been spliced together in the conversion

Casey-G
11th February 2013, 12:55 PM
I know when I was on clutch number 2 of 3 last year the Mrs was thinking the same thing.. it was quite hard to explain to her that I was doing my best without spending the money we had aside for the holiday we took shortly after that.. tired everything from stepping the flywheel till the fingers were practically flat in closed operation.. to even (omg) lowering the boost from 20 to 15 :/

Cars eh

sam92
12th February 2013, 06:35 AM
My wiring genius mate Spent a couple of hours on it yesterday fixed a couple of broken wires and loose pins in the ecu its getting better but there is still obviously faulty shit there to find.

I'm lucky the problems are all in the last 30-40cm of loom and I'm not chasing problems all the way along.

True. Good to have one either way just so you never have to worry about it. Also the clutch fan will only lock if its hot enough to do so, and your running a thermo right? Such a clean engine bay without turbo junk in it! Me jelly

cheers man im stoked all the work has finally paid off im still waiting on a temp sender for oil and i need to work out how to wire up the stock ke70 tacho and the car is pretty well complete until i upgrade the diff later on.

on the weekend i went camping with a few mates in the Kosciusko national park and Jake ( in benzo's old corona) and me in the corolla went for a spirited drive through some fun twisty, tight roads. It was an awesome drive and felt good to get the corolla on some roads where i could drive it properly. I couldnt fault the car it drove awesome and felt very good too drive :)

well thats my shitty little short story :)

I put some JDI knuckles in my car a couple of weeks ago ( thanks Kumar for supplying standard knuckles and getting them done I owe you big time !) feels so much better to drive now.

Also replaced my thermostat as my car wasn't heating up properly and put some new brake hoses on while I was going. Car is still off the road now dammit because the new brake hoses I got had metal filings in one of the lines which then blocked up when bleeding the brakes. I have the calliper pulled apart to make sure nothing got in there.

It only clears the engine by about 10mm so I'm yet to find out if it will rub on the cam cover when driving. if it does ill have to make some sort of spacer to make a bit more clearance.

Sooo I finally got the car back together and driving for the first time in a month, I put new seals in the caliper that I thought had got shavings of metal inside it and bled the brakes and now the car pulls hard left when I brake. Bled them again and same thing and the pedal feels shit.think there's something wrong with the caliper now :s. What's surposed to be an easy job has become a nightmare.

On a happier note a bought hoshinos and they turned up today :) made everything a little better haha

photo update:

finally got some decent wheels
Hoshinos!! 14x8 -7 up front and 14x7.5 -1 on rear, would have liked the 8s on the rear but they sat outside the guards too much and they only just sit out on the front

The car is entered in Wintons prac day on sat but is still in the garage and the brakes are still shit!!
Don't know what it could be I have now put other brakes, hoses and a new brake master on and bled the brakes and the pedal is still soft and the car pulls hard left when braking :(

Spent endless hours trying to fix it this week but I don't think the prac day is happening.

Bleed at the cylinder first then do the rear left, rear right, front left, front right... I had the same issue with the last car I did, ended up needed the bleed at the cylinder first to get them all to come firm.

I'm not home atm but if I can end up down winton way this weekend man it'll be great to see you there.. No point wasting the entry.. We'll sort the car out.

The brake line splitter under the master cylinder could have a stuffed seal in it, one of the callipers could also be seized a bit. just a thought.

Is the brake pad cracked? If the pad's cracked it'll cause an uneven braking surface on the rotors and etc.

sam92
13th July 2013, 07:35 PM
Hahaha kev that is exactly what I found had happened last night! I changed callipers but used the same pads and because it was cracked it wasn't making full contact. Changed them over and all good :) winton was fun. N/a life!!! One pair of tyres all day!!

Winton on Saturday was fun, the car worked sweet all day!! Track was very slippery and my car was being very twitchy and snappy with the new knuckles, it took a couple of sessions to start getting a couple of decent lines happening.
Hopefully some more photos will pop up soon.

Still have the ma61's around?

sam92

Cheers man! yeah I still have the ma61s, holding onto them they make good street wheels when I know the cops are having a blitz and defecting people + good skidders

luke04
21st July 2013, 01:17 PM
Trying to hunt down a set, same idea as you have. For wheels that are common, I can't seem to find some!

This still running stock borgy?

sam92
21st July 2013, 01:23 PM
Maybe put up a wanted thread for some? Heaps of people have them, some people want a lot for them though and some people want next to nothing.
They are a good standard wheel with decent offsets for what they are.

Yeah still running the standard borgy with 4.33s I had it shimmed up when I did the engine conversion it's holding up like a champ.

Yeah had a wtb up on a few fb groups but will try my luck here also.

On topic do any sr20 knowledgable people think its a bad idea if I bypass my knock sensor ? It's playing up and yes I know what it does and the risks but really what's the chances of my stock motor going bang?

Are you sure you can come Sam? wont you be letting your footy team down? Im told your their best ball handler. Dont worry about your knock sensor mate, focus on the ball(s)

sam92
27th August 2013, 04:36 PM
I think you meant this message for Zale and he is on the vw forum jake. If I was going to touch balls I wouldn't do it wearing shorts in the middle of winter on a wet muddy field with everyone watching and cheering on who they want to touch the balls.

I'm sure Zale would give you a valid reason on why he thinks its a fun thing to do.

I just got back from the painfully long drive to qld for matsuri, it was a rad weekend and a few hectic weeks leading up to it with my loom already being in Queensland being remade by ( Kevin Rowly) who some people probably know or have heard of and lucky for me i got my full licence and a few days before the trip ( massive relief) and bought a pj ranger a couple of weeks back to tow with so getting the car up there wasnt an issue.
anyways the loom all went back in sweet with all the broken wires fixed and a couple of things wired up that were missed and then we went to start it and no dice :(. kev quickly worked out that my ecu and fingered and needs replacing, being easier said then done being an autech ecu he gave me a silvertop de auto ecu to run it with which was not ideal but manageable. the car struggled to hold long lines and would die in the arse and sit in limp mode for a few seconds which was GAYYYY it ruined so many lines over the weekend. at the end of the day i managed to still have fun and Qld is awesome and they are a great bunch and guys up there and now that my shitty story is at an end heres some pics.

Thanks Carlson!! Hope I can get faster and a bit more consistent on my lines next time round, with a mint running car haha. I can't wait till your car has the 3s and you come to feb matsuri. I expect our cars too touch at some stage hopefully in a friendly undamaging way ;). Cheers for contributing to a awesome weekend man.

Its been along time between posts, i didnt touch my car for a couple of months there and even cracked the shits and tried to sell it ( glad i didnt) but its fixed now with a completely different loom in it and is running mint. I re registered it last week and did some test skids and decided to go to Winton Dec prac day and get the skids ( for now). Car ran well all day and felt awesome to drive without any of the previous issues ive had.

30328 I had a good run with the corolla as a street car but a couple of days before Christmas a couple of cops ( super nice guys) so they thought as they told me they were doing me a favour by saving my life haha. they called in a couple of highway patrols to have a good look over the car and give me a good bummin which i didnt argue because i forgot lube :P got done for sr, hydro, battery in boot, no horn button, cage, wheels, etc etc etc and they told me i had ruined the structural integrity of the car because the rad support is cut a little for air flow to the radiator and apparently the rust through out the vehicle isn't serviceable , apparently my mrs and I were doomed to lose ours legs in a minor collision because of this LOL.

It was a long time coming, it will just be a track car from now on unless i engineer it or sort something out.
