Took this thing drifting 2 weeks ago for the first time... Went well for what it was. 175/60's up made it feel like shit and hard to steer around the peanut but was manageable... It's had a fair bit of work done to it since... Moved steering rack 20mm further forward and 15mm longer LCA's made a huge difference.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/7/1/3/523939.jpg

It's been to 2 drift days now and done well... 185/60 RE001's up front and the rack moved forward helped heaps. It actually steers nice now.

What advantage does moving the rack forward have? Better angle? Lighter steering?

Jdm-Mcc
1st February 2014, 07:36 PM
When the knuckle reaches maxiumum angle it stops the tie rod from tucking behind the knuckle and creating bind.

Well a few things have been happening with this car

bought a mazda 1000 ute not to long ago with a 13b Bridgeport .unfortunaly had to sell itwanting another rotary I decided to but a 13b into this
also the blacktop blew up (spun bottom end),turns out you have to put oil in them :/ haha

anyways I picked up a 4port 13b bridge with a w5x box for $1300
,had it running in a Capella and got it out and home still warm
was apparently rebuilt 5000kms ago.who knows ,sounds good though

ive been spending most my time cleaning the bay and replacing the firewall piece that was cut out for the blacktop dizzy
the tunnel had to be cut and raised at the front to accommodate the W gearbox
all holes in the bay welded up and it's allmost ready for paint (silver glitter) because jdm fag

i got the engine and gearbox mounted over the weekend .happy with how it sits...http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/4/1/5/533953.jpg (http://s1089.photobucket.com/user/blaike7/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image-2.jpg.html)

Basically my goal is to have it finished for QLD Matsuri

need to still powdercoat everything, mount and plumb the ASD hydro, make tailshaft, wire the engine in,new fuel lines and pump
,mount radiator and oil cooler, half cage ,intake (undecided on just a weber 51 ida or injection)
make exhaust,etc

going back to 185/55 on the front,re001 185/60 is just to big ...

also finally found and purchased quad light headlight covers :D

Blaike
9th June 2014, 07:56 PM
Here's a better photo showing the mounts.
the engine front plate is 6mm mild, uses standard 4age rubbers and 6mm mounts welded on the caster brackets
no mounts of the original x-member

the gearbox mount is 3mm 25x50 RHS with a 6mm plate that bolts to the original W mount

metalic silver base, solid .8 silver flake and about 8 clear coats

stainless braid line to the ASD hydro and the same to the rear

Slight progress in the dardy garage
engine is in!
just finished modifying the clutch fork to suit a s6 slave cyl
crossmember and rack mounted and the whole front end is back in
had to space the crossmember 12mm so the rack could clear the rear plate and sump ,no biggy....
ku31's ordered and should be on the car tomorow (apparently the last pair of ku31's In 185/55 r14 :/ :( )

rx4 radiator and oil cooler arrived
the radiator is mounted with a 12" thermo, still working on the oil cooler
not one thing had been a simple bolt in .....

Whole engine loom is complete, really happy with it

allmost finished wiring the MSD 6al ignition box and coils
ive gone with a direct fire leading ignition setup
(one msd blaster coil for each leading plug and a Bosch gt50r for the trailing plugs)

the intake side of things is getting there too
rx4 cast manifold,50mm ida webber spacers,51 ida webber and a k&n 5.5" tall filter
the filter sits about 100 -150mm above the hood line....whoops:/
looks like I'll be running no hood for good

bride seat on bride 86 rail is fitted.will buy takata harness sometime soon
sadly the "to do" list is still a lot bigger than the "done" list .progress is progress though
