Doing well! Nice work on all the photos, i always get half way through a conversion before remembering i should take photos. How hard was it modifying the S13 pedal box?

Doing well! Nice work on all the photos, i always get half way through a conversion before remembering i should take photos. How hard was it modifying the S13 pedal box?

the pedal box is actually really easy. in the photo the pedal box behind it is standard and the one infront it made to fit my car.
all you do is put it on a diet. cut alot of one side off so it all fits in. then used the spacer off the s13 firewall so it sits in the right position. Its not 100% finished. i want to weld another bracket on it so the pressures not all on the firewall when the clutch is engaged, also will put a return spring on it as you have to cut the mounts off from the standard spring. Other than that you just have to shape the pedal to fit and i also flattened the firewall a so the master cylinder sits up flush

found someone i know with an r31 so told him to head round today and i swapped out the lca's to get rid of a bit of track. still thinking i might redrill the lca mounts to push them in a little more which will give me more room to move as far as wheel go.

made myself a gearbox crossmember the other day, the mount sits in a similar position as standard so i started with the standard corolla mount cut a section a welded the centre section of the nissan crossmember in.
Standard:

My dads home from work at the moment so i took the opportunity to get started on the wiring. I ended up using the whole body loom out of the 180sx halfcut, so first started by cutting holes and mounting the fuse box

also got my ae86 cambertops so put all the front suspension and steering together including shortening tie rod ends and rack ends to suit r31 control arms

I ended up buying this yesterday for a diff;
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/1/6/8/404649.jpg
the rest of it will be wrecked so if anyone needs parts...

Also tried the steering column from s13 and was more work than it was worth so continued to wire the corolla switches into the loom, so far i have managed to get the ignition and headlights (park, low, high, flash) all working so still have indicators/hazards and the wiper stalk to do.

Been a while between unpdates but Uni is finished for the year which should hopefully give me more time to spend on this as I haven't touched it in a while now because I've had exams and stuff.
During the week I picked this up

will be using this as my lift pump to surge tank 129lph low pressure pump.

Had a look over my wiring tonight and realized the interior light and the handbrake light on the dash were not hooked up so spent some time wiring those up. So the wiring is more or less done now, need to tidy up a little and that should be it.

Been a month or two since ive really done anything on this. Have been waiting on a heater core that I ordered which turned out to be the wrong one and then couldnt find another, so ended up just buying another wreck
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/1/6/8/503778.jpg
So pulled the heater core out of that pressure tested it, fixed the leaks and put it in. So today i started assembling it all into the car and piece the dash back together. I also ended up cutting my new stereo into the top of the dash and wiring that up

plan is to spend some more time on it tomorrow. Want to start getting work done again!

Realized that the R31 diff is 60mm wider than the ke diff and the wheels were definitely not going to fit so started rolling/pumping the guard which ended up being a mess as they needed to be re welded, bogged and painted. I've got them done now good enough to put the new diff in and see if it will fit but they are still going to need some work before they are perfect. Also cant decide whether I like the wheels better in black or white....

Not sure what going on with this pic.. is that S14 on the left and S13 on the right? i just know that using S14/R32 castor rods with the S13 setup you are limited to about 6 or 7 degrees castor when maxed out as the rods S14 rods are longer then S13.

you've done a good job of using the parts from the Cut.

is it running yet?

So thats the s14 adjustable rod of the left wound out to where it reachs
the standard s13 rod in the middle
the s14 adjustable wound all the way in on the right

where i have mounted the swaybar/castor rod mount is further forward that where it fits in a silvia so the s14 rods are need just to reach. This is because the engine is moved forward 50mm on the crossmember so the swaybar hits on the sump in the standard position. Still dont think ill be able to get much more than 6
or 7 degrees before the wheel starts hitting the front of the guards. Yer my aim was to use everything i could make fit from the halfcut. It can start i post a video up before but not properly, fuel pump isnt hooked up, no cooling system, intake, exhaust, diff or tailshaft.

got a heap of stuff done in the last couple of weeks, but mostly just finished off small incomplete things. connected up brakes and bled them up, welded up the cable mounts for the handbrake and put them together. tightened up all the suspension and steering. pulled the engine back out cut the shifter hole a bit bigger and made a plate to cover the rest of it. changed the oil pan to a tomei one i had, changed the oil and oilfilter pulled the turbo off and changed the gasket and gave the engine a good clean. also cut out the front a bit for the radiator to breathe a bit better, mounted up the power steering reservoir and ignitor and neatened the wiring up a bit. put the engin back in. put an exhaust up that im going to modify to fit. got my intercooler and started trying to see how im going to make everything fit

Did some work on the fuel system the other week, had to change the pickup and return im the tank to 10mm and 8mm then run a 10mm line through the low pressure pickup pump the the vl pump and run new 8mm hard line out of bundy tube to the engine and for the return. Once I did this i made an exhaust to just before the diff rigged up a quick, dodgey intake and took the car for its first drive. Since then ive put the dash all back together and interior is mostly back in and have assembled a few other bits and pieces; rear window, right guard, etc. decided the other day that im
Going to move the battery into the boot so i cut the tray outof the engine bay which gives me heaps more room for washer/overflow bottles and cooler pipes

I have put a fair bit of work into the car since the last post. Battery has been relocated to the boot, a new top water outlet was made so i could fit in a hose, bottom hose was shortened and radiator has been mounted. Also found some heater hoses that have a reducer built into them as the engine outlets are bigger than heater core and cut them to fit. tidied up the wiring which allowed me to remove one of the relay boxes (the 180sx one which mostly consists of headlight retract relays) and mounted it all up. Got an intercooler off a friend with stainless piping to fit an s14 so we cut it up and made it all fit in, piped up all the vacuum lines and charcoal canister and basically mounted everything in the engine bay and started making up a fan shroud. need to find a new drivers seat and do some rewiring in the interior as the connectors i used aren't that great and have been causing me problems so ill go through and just solder each wire in. Then the engine will come back out to tidy up and paint the engine bay so everything can go back together to stay.

pulled the engine back out and painted the engine bay, put some spot lights on it to help it dry but had a problem with mosquitoes thinking it was a good place to rest and dying in the paint but brushed them off after it dried and its all hidden anyway so didn't bother much with it. change the clutch to something a bit more mild for the pits, painted the box and all underneath the car.

Also took the spacers out of my front coilovers and did a wheel alignment and realise when i lowered it i cause massive toe out so i fixed that up and now it feels alot better to drive.
Also took a little more off the rear spring and got some
Shorter shocks off a mate who never used them. They are for a commodore wagon so they are much harder and perfect length for my springs

cheers guys, yep in WA, would love so personalized plates but i just have no idea what to get on them!
shocks fell much better than stock but im going to have to look into stiffing up the rear a bit more eventually.

had some radiator troubles (after a week of driving the fan decided to hit one of the rad tubes) so went twin thermos and wired them into an auxiliary on my ecu. Got bored and decided to try my spare rocker cover which i painted yellow, but wasnt happy with it so resprayed the old rocker cover and plug cover in low gloss black and went over the writing in gloss black. think i will end up paint stripping the yellow one and colour coding it white, but I'm happy with the black for now. Also thought id do a compression test while i had it apart and was around 140-150 on all cylinders. Also was getting loud noises from my 044 so i started pulling my fuel system apart and realised the lift pump wasnt working so i replaced it with the goss pump i had

Wiring just takes time, patience and a bit of thinking but its not too hard. I definitely recommend buy a halfcut, there are so many pieces on it that come in handy. you also know you have everything there running in the halfcut so your not missing anything to make it run in the new chassis

I had to make it, basically just cut a flange out of some thick metal and welded a right angle to it. The hose gets too kinked up with the stock setup because the radiator sits so much closer. I think the hose i used is for a vn commodore v6 and trimmed a little

Fair enough thx mate, was hoping it was off some kind of SR20 from a gtir or something. agreed theres not much room for a hose with the standard neck but I just ended up triming the rad support and moved the rad fwd to give more room.

Yer i spent some time at work searching for a front wheel drive setup and in the end was just easier to make one up. I also cut the front to make the rad sit further forward.

Fuel issues before we got much done. So now i got some 1700cc injectors,
Ordered a holley 12-1400 fuel pump and am sorting out some 1/2 inch hardlines and a better surge tank

Haha it hooks up suprisingly well, id like to got 4.11 gear ratios to tighten it up a little.
the Link is by far the best bit of gear I bought for this build. Originally i was deciding between nistune and power fc and got talked into this by a mate who had one and its well and truley paid itself off, makes things so much easier. Gets rid of the ugly maf, Have any issues you have data logs to look through, boost control is a matter of buying a $30 solenoid and works better than any other boost controller. When i ran my thermos i didnt have to run any sensors or anything just a relay and set it all up through the ecu with so much control over when they come on and off, with my holley fuel pump being a twin pump i have one wired as a regular pump then the other switch through the ecu with a certain parameters such as boost or rpm. you get other cool stuff like 2 step limiter and yer tuners like justin seem really happy when you tell them its a link they are tuning haha.

ae8zn6
11th May 2014, 12:28 PM
OK Cool, thanks for the response!

Justin was fairly unimpressed by the fidelity of the Nistune even though he got the numbers I was looking for out of it.

Sounds like it will be the way to go though when/if I decide to get more of the potential out of my motor. Sounds like I could pull out the eBoost 2 and sell it on to get some of the cash back in my pocket.

The guys at Nistune have figured out the fan control stuff these days though too, so my Thermos are controlled by the ECU with new temperature switch values. I also wired in an override switch so that I can manually choose to turn them on whenever I want.

But yeah, MAF... ugh, just a PITA and always causes problems with BOVs and the like, more likely to cause detonation if you have something pop off and cause a big leak too.

Are you going to go to BDA3?

yeah, with the kind of numbers you are running you will likely need the bigger box... particularly with an aggressive clutch, but then again will also depend on the size tyres you are using and how aggressively you shift gears etc...

Does the bellhousing really clear?

In my car the bell is really the limiting factor by a long way, if I wanted to go to an rb25 box there would be a lot of cutting involved :S
