22R timing chain guides were on the way out, so I replaced them and new chain, freshened up the motor and sold it.

Picked up a LS400 front sump UCF11 1uz with full loom and manual conversion

Pulled out the motor to discover G52 box, not a W series...
Thought about using G series with the W/R series adapter
Adapter and G52 (G series, the not spoken about cousin of the W series)

A341 Bellhousing didn't want to work
The with the Adapter bolted up to the W57, the A341 bell fouls on the bottom bolt head.

And the 2 widest bolts into the adapter to the box, the heads foul the bell.
Worked it out

Howe Hydraulic Release bearing
Shim kit that came with it is questionable...
Had to have a 27mm spacer made up to sit this thing far enough forward.
http://imageshack.us/a/img690/1418/photo164s.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/690/photo164s.jpg/)

Picked up power steering box for it, replaced centre rod, steering idler, and inner tie rods while I was there.
Looks like the Alt may foul the PS box, will mount it on other side....

W57 bolted up to stock G series mount with minimum modification, had to elongate rear rubber mount holes buy 3mm, tailshaft went straight in same spline.

Today'sProgress
Delete everything to do with the auto and don't need.....Mission and a half

Anyone doing a 1uz conversion with the stock ecu, take a look at this site
http://oldschool.co.nz/2011/forum/index.php?showtopic=30736#p701443
Everything you need right there.

More to come.

Saw that website, if I wasn't colour blind and non retarded I could probably work it out. Maybe you could help me wire my T18 when you've done your hilux haha.

I also thought about putting a 2wd 1uz in a hilux to tow my T18 with but I wanted a 4x4 and diesel and ended up getting a turbo 80 series.

Futo_gt86
22nd October 2012, 07:15 AM
Yah, I would be happy to help out man, serious.....just got to get mine mobile so missus stops complaining 1st......
What is your 1uz out of?
If its 95 on non vvti soarer that site makes it very easy.
80 Series are a rig.
I originally started the swap for tow rig, but I think i'm actually going to register the panno....

I got mine out of a 91 celsior so no immobilisers to go through being an import engine I think. Mine only needs the most basic wiring, haha. Just a button to start it that's about it. Plus all the other wiring I could probably do myself.

Futo_gt86
22nd October 2012, 08:13 PM
91 Celsior would be very similar to what I'm doin.
Mine is 92 Celsior, but is Aus delivered, no traction control, no speed limiter and no immobilizer...
Does your ECU have 4 plugs, 26pin, 16pin, 22pin and another 26pin that looks the same as 1st one, but is upside down?
And do you have all 4, coz you need them!
I'm one short, but devised a method using a AE92 4agze 26pin with filed down locating lugs

ill have a look when I wake up.

Today was pretty uneventful.
I removed the upper manifold so I could delete more wires.
I did however get the alternator on and the p/s pump with out fouling the Rn85 p/s box....All good. Pretty happy with that!

jakel
27th October 2012, 10:06 PM
Sounds good, I have no other accessories other than alt anyway haha.

Futo_gt86
28th October 2012, 12:13 AM
Sounds good, I have no other accessories other than alt anyway haha.
Has your 1UZ Alt got big round plug or oval?
T18 would have had external regulator.
Do you still have the wiring for that?

jakel
28th October 2012, 09:06 AM
No I don't have the alt plug not sure if I took it off the car i pulled the engine out of. My T18 has no wiring left in it at all... haha.

Futo_gt86
28th October 2012, 07:28 PM
No wiring at all? What did you do with it?
Might be a bit out of my league.
If your Alt has the big round socket I have one for you.

I got in a few hours today, stripped back the RN85 engine bay loom alt wiring, as its on the opposite side of the 1UZ Alt, and to deleted the external regulator.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/7/7/6/405121.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/827/photo192g.jpg/)

There was a great deal of cursing today!
Tell you something, Stock ECU is so much more work than stand alone.

jakel
28th October 2012, 07:47 PM
I've got some of the interior loom left I think, it's only a track car so only needs the most basic of wiring to start it and run lights and gauges.Yeah just looked mine has the round one.

I was thinking of using one of these setup for sale - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/electronics/auction-527615525.htm
Looks alright not sure what it would be like to wire though.

Futo_gt86
28th October 2012, 08:01 PM
That's a good price, especially if you don't have to tune.
Usually dyno is where you get stung with the cheaper ECU's.
Got quoted $1200 for Emanage piggy back on the 4AGTE.
Quote "Its the ECU we hate to tune"
I don't know these Megasquirts at all.
Lextreme forums would be the go, search & ask some questions.

It would be easy a lot easier to wire then stock ecu.
The Stock ecu relies on so much to run correctly with out going into limp mode.
All you need is diagram.
I did my mates 1UZ RN90 with microtech, took me best part of three days, and most of that was double and triple checking as I had never done 1UZ before. Would be very similar.

jakel
28th October 2012, 08:20 PM
Hmm might do that, should be getting some money for finishing my trade so might buy one then. I know someone with the same ecu running his individual throttle body dihatsu handi haha. He said they're alright one of the best for the money.

I was also looking for another v8 celsior or soarer or something to slap a manwal in and track that till my T18 is done then part out that car and keep a spare engine and whatnot if you know of any for sale.

With the new laws coming in today for engine conversions and performance engine mod plates, the M112 blower set up I was keen on is out of the question, I'll never get it to pass.
I did however come across these puppies.

I am pretty sure you have 6 months till they apply to you if you have been talking to an engineer. Not sure though.

Futo_gt86

6 month leniency period for blue plater, but big hurdles to jump to get it passed....My guy won't do it.

jakel
1st November 2012, 07:09 PM
Yeah thought so, can't find another engineer? I don't think it's any different to the way NSW have had to do the same thing and people can do it there just is pretty dear I think.

Futo_gt86
1st November 2012, 08:32 PM
I might sus it out a bit more, but I think I'm dreaming.
Old rules dictate NA 4.2L is biggest engine size for my era 2WD hilux.

Futo_gt86
4th November 2012, 07:47 PM
Attacked 23yr old hilux the engine loom today
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/7/7/6/405638.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/441/photo002ni.jpg/)
Rerouted some wiring, deleted external reg, deleted alternator wiring on passenger side as 1UZ Alt is on driver side, wired starter motor, partially wired alternator, mounted radiator. Took me forever
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/7/7/6/405640.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/440/photo003d.jpg/)

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/7/7/6/405641.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/840/photo004pl.jpg/)

I want this thing to run so badly!

Futo_gt86
11th November 2012, 08:17 PM
I've pretty much finished the engine loom off today.
I just have to get a 30Amp fuse and holder for Batt constant and double check everything.
Next up is COR for the fuel pump and then wiring is done.

jakel
11th November 2012, 08:57 PM
Be good when I get mine going, haha. Only just done fuel lines and probably sorted rad hoses.

Futo_gt86
13th November 2012, 10:23 PM
My rad is a bit touch and go.
Mounts have to be changed.
Thermo is going to be tight fit.

jakel
14th November 2012, 01:28 AM
That radiator looks smaller than mine haha. Probably a bit taller but mine just fits inbetween the chassis rails, its a celica one that has the tanks on the side of the radiator and mounted so it angles towards the front of the car, made up a new top rad support and mounts for rad. I'll probably just run 1 big or two smaller thremos on outside of the rad, being a track car not really important only in line ups once the car gets moving will be fine.

Futo_gt86
14th November 2012, 06:45 AM
In the pictures you can see I have sat the rad back a hole on the top mount to move it closer to RAD support. It sits up pretty high, I haven't put the bonnet back on to see but I think it will foul where it is, goin to have to move down, which it can do, by about 25mm before chassis rail becomes a problem.

Remote oil filter.....I have the CRS adapter, and I have off the 4AGZE set up a GREX block with a Subaru filter on it and PWR cooler that I was thinking of using....But, I believe the filter is going to be a problem. I need to look at flow rates and see if its up to the task, or if there is something with the same thread that will do the job, or have to get a different Block...Maybe a Ryco one or something...

jakel
14th November 2012, 01:59 PM
That's the angle mine is mounted on then made up a new removable top radiator support.

Futo_gt86
15th November 2012, 09:35 PM
Jake,
Where did you get that radiator from? Is it an ebay one or did you get it locally?
Can you run a tape across it and give me some dimensions?
Is it a side filler type?

jakel
16th November 2012, 01:33 AM
Just an ebay one, look up ZZT celica radiator. It is one where it is filled through a pressurized overflow but I just got an inline filler with radiator cap from an echo to use in mine to keep things simple. But I do have a overflow tank from a celica as well.

Futo_gt86
16th November 2012, 07:06 PM
Got ne measurements?

Futo_gt86
17th November 2012, 08:40 PM
Jake,
What you doing for oil filter set up?

jakel
17th November 2012, 10:49 PM
Ill measure mine when I open the bonnet again, haha. I can just sneak the std setup in other wise I have an oil cooler adapter and remote mount setup.

Futo_gt86
18th November 2012, 08:17 AM
Mine definitely hits the chassis rail with the filter on,
I can buy a smaller filter for $16, its off an industrial grader, the filter is only 25mm high, and it will fit, but have to take the steering idler bolts out to change it...This is what I did with mates RN90, as a short term get it running thing.....3 yrs later, still running fine...but dodgy as...

Or buy a $390 + freight anodized billet alloy 90degree adapter of dude on trademe NZ, but it has no provisions for oil cooler...exxy

Or what I have done, a $90 CRS adapter that gets rid of that stupid long stock filter neck, and now I'm on ebay looking at coolers and remote filter bases, but am unsure what size cooler.. I want one that's long and thin, but nothing like what I wants on there...only thin one's are like small 7 row...is that even going to be big enough?

jakel
18th November 2012, 10:56 AM
Well my engine had no oil cooler std so one has to be better than nothing, I got a cheap oil cooler kit for 4age for $100 and an adapter for $20 delivered from the states only thing with the oil cooler is that the lines are too long and need to either make them shorter or get new ones. Also the adapter I got is of average quality one of the threads is pretty average and have to get it cleaned up before I put the speedflow adapters in, which where $10 ea, so the adapter cost me $40 ready to put fittings on.

Futo_gt86
18th November 2012, 11:29 AM
Don't filters have different flow rates?
I have a GREX filter base/PWR cooler setup for the GZE I was thinking about using on the 1UZ, but was told they're are different flow rates by engineer......
He said the Ryco one about $70 from repco come with 3 different size thread fittings for different size filters and that he used them on ford/chev with some filter part number he rattled off....I looked at the ryco one, it looks kitch as....

Where the hell would I find flow rates chart?
Its Google time.

Futo_gt86
18th November 2012, 12:23 PM
Hmm, 2UZ OE filter set up would work.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2UZ-TOYOTA-OIL-FILTER-ADAPTER-HOUSING-D-094-/251183414579?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a7bb2bd33

18th November 2012, 01:05 PM
New dilemma, thermostat type or non thermostat type...

jakel
18th November 2012, 06:39 PM
Ah yeah they are a remote setup, then you could just use RX7 cooler or something. If it's a street car I would probably use a thermostat but for mine I am not going to bother.

jakel
18th November 2012, 06:44 PM
The question now is are you going to buy that exact one, haha. I was just about to but I thought I would ask, haha.

Futo_gt86
18th November 2012, 08:38 PM
What, that 2UZ one?
Nah go for it, check out that freight charge though $58.70....
I don't think it has thermostat in it.
I'm after one of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321024905027?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

jakel
18th November 2012, 09:04 PM
Yeah looked up what they're worth new and $600 so the $58 postage is fine, haha. Now I can just use a basic oil cooler and not have to worry about getting braided lines and speedflow fittings to suit, not worried about how it all looks as long as it works, haha.

Futo_gt86
18th November 2012, 09:49 PM
All good man.
That Greddy remote, listed as universal, uses 4A filters
I just been researching filters, HKS 52009-AK002 does a variety of engines including 4A, so I went with one
I'm just going to use the non thermostat 4A GREX / PWR cooler setup I have for now, and switch over to remote when it arrives.

jakel
18th November 2012, 10:02 PM
Ah yeah, that should work perfect on mine, can still use a genuine filter and have an oil cooler. Like having my cake and eating it too, haha.

Futo_gt86
18th November 2012, 10:46 PM
Sweet deal!
Glad I put it up now.
I just threw down on 3 defi link guages and control...
Got to stop looking at ebay.

jakel
18th November 2012, 11:21 PM
Haha, I just bought some speco ones came pretty cheap all I have is tacho, oil pressure and water temp. I also feel that way about anything car parts and cars haha. Need to buy a car trailer once I sell this other T18 but would like to get another track hack but I know then ill just get rid of it when this one is done so just avoid it, haha.

Futo_gt86
2nd December 2012, 09:25 PM
Oil filter block is a pain, the CRS adapter takes -8 O'ring fittings...
So I got 2 5/8 screw type fittings, they went on side by side, pretty close...... too close, the 5/8 male fitting that screw on to them, foul on each other....
Back to the drawing board, will have to step it down to 1/2"

Dropped in a pair of re-trimmed Surf Recaro's...Pic's up soon..

Futo_gt86

Have hit a serious snag.
The fiance's Camry, the daily whilst the ute being build has had total engine failure.
Not worth the monies to fix, time to upgrade.
Have been given an ultimatum, Ute or Pano...So devo
Not giving up on the Pano, its a hard decission, but looks like the ute will be moved on....

Will be replaced with a Celsior so I can keep the engine...

jakel
20th December 2012, 01:25 AM
Damn! have any 1uz part :) haha. What model camry? Toyota had dirt cheap new 2az's recently like 2k for a engine.

Futo_gt86
23rd December 2012, 08:12 AM
Nah man, its a wide body camry.
Its a POS and not worth the effort. It will be scrapped.
Good news is looks like the ute is staying.
The missus wouldn't sign off on the Celsior, her argument being 2 v8 rego and insurance and fuel bills.....2 frigging expensive.
Her stipulation's were 4 door sedan with boot space with smaller sized engine and automatic.
I found a V35 GT250 skyline 4 door with 106xxxkm for the right money.

jakel
23rd December 2012, 11:44 AM
Sounds good to me, haha. Although wouldn't a celsior plus rego and insurance have been cheaper? haha.

Futo_gt86
23rd December 2012, 01:51 PM
That point was raised, but the size of the Celsior was too overwhelming for her.

Looks like you'll need some luck to get a rad hose to fit there haha.

Futo_gt86
15th May 2013, 09:39 PM
I can get a 90 degree on to driver side without fouling cam cover.
The Rad itself can come back towards rad support another 10-15mm.
It'll work.

After a massive blow out with Mrs, shell was sold.
Motor, box, ECU, recaro and guages all kept and will be going in AE71 Pano - Jordo 1uz mount kit!
