i have chosen to get AE TEKS from koya but still not sure if i should get the 15 x 7 or 15 x 8 or what off set i need. i bought the car it was an unfinished project so this is what the guy said it had, kaizen coils overs, cusco camber toppers set at -3, power steer arms, negative rca's ( not to sure on how negative they are)

hey mate, i just purchased the same rims not long ago, i have stock guards and coilover with the camber tops aswell and corona diff. i went +15 all round with the 15x7 and 205 on the rear and 195 on the front...fits perfect cause i wasn't going for a really filled guard

i also recommend Purnell tyres. awesome crew who know what there talking about when it comes to rims and tyres, i got mine for 1500 flat with delivery and wheel nuts!

what about the negative rca's and i work at a tyre place so i can get them cheap which is good.

ahh ok, that is always a bonus!
Negative Rca's??

negative camber rca's, just roll centre adjusters with an offset set of bolt holes. Pretty sure they give extra track width dskew

yea something like that they where already on the car, but still i don't really know what offset i should get don't wanna waste money on rims that wont fit that would suck lol

if your getting 7's or 8's get a zero offset, rim choice is up to you but $1500 for a set of cheap copy rims isnt a bargain.
you can actually get some nice second hand ssr mesh or watanabe's in good offsets for that kind of money to mention a couple of good choices.
i can understand if the copy rims are a bargain (like a set of rota hiyashi street copys that were for sale recently for $500) but $1500 could be so well better spent

dam :( who makes the real ones?

Twisty92
13th March 2013, 09:50 PM
hate on my koya's all you want ;)
but i'm happy with the tyres and rims for that price and buying 2nd hand rims can bite you in the arse too especially if ya gotta make the car fit the rims, not to mention buckles / unroadworthy tyres that come with them

buy something that you will like! :)

Twisty92
13th March 2013, 09:51 PM
the ones there talking about are probably long champs. which do look similar but the koya's are more of a face rim and 1 piece

i could be wrong but i think ae teks are a copy of ssr longchamps.

One thing to think about is resale value. Quality rims will hold value or gain value. Like tristan says, buy what ever you want. If getting 7s get zero offset and in 8s get plus 10 at most. Anything is better then stock. I have 15x8 plus 20 on the rear of a ke70 wagon and they are about a inch in from the guards. Sprinters have more room

Dskew3
13th March 2013, 11:27 PM
stock rims would be better at the moment the car didnt come with rims i have some shit 13's from an excel and the bearly fit need spacers and they still rub the tinyest bit, i have a while till the car is on the road so i have some time to figure it out.

Can help you out with some Longchamps when the time comes that you're after wheels.

If you didn't want anything too serious I've got some 14 x 6.5 - 0 Offset Hayashi Streets for $600 - Will sit quite nice on stock guards :)

Jacobxxx

Ae Tek are a copy of Longchamp

$1500 is a rip off

15x8 +-0 is good on stock guards with a 195/55

Second hand Japanese wheels with good tyre should be $1500 max for real nice ones

Buy from JDM Wheels

i second jacobs yarn. 15x8 0 offest. ive got that on my ae86 with standard gaurds. i folded the inner lip in recently then put spacers on for them so it would sit properly so that gives you an idea of the clearance

I bought rota grid classics 15x7 0 offset for 750 new and put some 195 50 15 federal rsrs new for 440. Ive been down the second hand route before and unless you could have the runnout and checked for buckles before purchase its a gamble as i found out. not everyone can afford new watanabes. Oh and 15x8 -0 will stick out up front as i found test fitting with king spring lows and 3degrees neg camber and 205 50 15 tyre. rear was perfect flush so that why i went with 7s.

those AE TEK wheels look fucking horrendous.

Jason: I've got 195's on my 15x8 0offset grid V and they are still well within the gaurd on the front. And those gaurds haven't been pulled or anything. I only lipped them so I could run it with spacers and super low with max castor wound in. I'm a lil unsure as to how you got 3 deg camber without a longer control arm hence making your wheel sit further out to start with. I'm running cusco tops at max camber and only get around 2 deg. Plus 205 tyres means they will deffs stick out.

15x8 0 offset wheels with 195/50 tyres sit perfectly on 86's. As everyone has said!

Jimmee1990

Even 205/50/15 on 15x8 zero offset fits fine on an 86, 195 would have loads of space.

Spose the real question is what is the cars intended use. if its for grip no point running a 195 50 15 stretched on an 8 inch rim with zero offset which will change your scrub radius and destroy the cars handling and produce zero grip. if its for stance or drift then no issues. Best just go to the wheel supplier and have wheels test fitted as everyone has different views on the subject. good luck with your selection.

195/50 'stretched' on an 8 inch rim produces zero grip and destroys the cars handling is quite a big call

Jasonae86, can you please expain to us how scrub radius, directly in relation to 15x8 0 wheels on an ae86, will destroy the cars handling?

195/50 on a 15x8 has been done for years, pretty much proven to be the most cost effective, least modification fit which offers a range of cheap good tires to give great performance over standard wheels and tires.

jasonae86

i believe in my own opinion that if you want a good sized offset wheel size that produces good grip simply buy the right tyre size reccomended for the rim of choice. people say 15x8 0 offset wheels fit with heaps of room but i found that isnt the case on my ae86. when the suspension compressed the tyre rubbed the front bumper where it bolts to the guard. so without modification to this in some way i dont believe it is a perfect fit or heaps of clearance wheel size. Ill take back my comment on destroy your handling as you can adjust and modify your scrub radius with changes to camber and castor but running large offset wheels not specifically 15x8 0 offset can effect the way your car will handle.

Take a federal rsr 195 50 15 reccomends to be fitted to a 5.5 to 6.5 inch rim. I believe dependant also on brand if you want to RACE your car competively 195 on a 8inch rim is probably better for drifting than racing because of lack of grip caused from under tyre. in fact under tyre is probably how you can get the 15 x 8 to fit up front.

^^ in theory i agree...but you are honestly thinking about it too much...a decent 195 on such a lightweight/low power car will provide adequate grip until such a point as your driving ability is pushing the limits of street tyres

well keiichi tsuchiya ae86 runs
WHEELS: DORI DORI MESH 7JX15 OFFSET-2
TIRES: POTENZA RE-01 195/50R15

i'd put my money on him knowing a few things about cars.

if you're too scared of 15x8's just go 15x7 with 195/50, still looks ok.

not intending anything bad jason.
just pointing out that im sure keiichi wouldve been through alot of setups and had settled on either 195/50/15 on a 15x8.5 +3 or a 195/50/15 on a 15x7 -2 rim.
me personally i run 195/60/14 on rear and 185/60/14 on the front, wheels are watanabe 14x7 +6, i also run a 5mm slip on. i have 100% stock guards (not even lipped) and even still at full compression i see guard marks on my rear tyres :S.
looks and performance wise i'd say a 7.5" to 8" zero offset rim would be perfect

has anyone ever purchased http://www.performancewheels.com.au/Home/Wheels.asp?theGroup=S&Cat=Motor+Sport GTR ones was thinking 15x6 on front and 15x8 on rear just unsure of offset. Will be putting flares on car as well

Why so small on the front? Best option is 15x8 all round

heaps of people have bought superlite gtr's, you can get away with having 15x8 front and rear without the need for flares, just a roll will get you a nice filled guard look.
offset wise get zero.

kk thanks heaps. still want flares as like that look lol. What have people thought of them good wheel? Car is mainly track so want a strong light wheel

dove grey 64
20th August 2013, 09:53 AM
You'll need even wider wheels to look good with flares. I dont think they are lightweight wheels but seem strong. Pretty sure they are for track use only.
Tofu on here has a set of 15x10 superlites he'd be willing to sell, drop him a pm if you want

Mirko

Spoke to company and they are lighter. Could always use spacer l guess

dove grey 64
20th August 2013, 11:03 AM
I wouldn't buy them new. Second hand sets from here are way cheaper. They dont hold their value like watanabes even though they are a good looking and well performing wheel.
My personal opinion you'd be better off with 10's and flares then 8's and massive spacers. If your building a track car you may aswell have the extra width

20th August 2013, 01:33 PM
I pm'd Tofu and ill keep an eye out for other ones
