Hi gang.
I needed a reliable yet interesting daily. Living in Darwin gives inflated prices on everything from milk, to petrol, from eggs to automobiles. So when a somewhat clean, unmolested AE111 pulled up in front of me whilst walking back from the markets with my Cambodian chicken and prawn pancakes, I just had to ask if it was for sale.
It was.
I negotiated,
I bought.
And thus, gave the months of bussing myself to and from work, the flick (or so I thought). Anyone who has caught a bus in Darwin will understand the joy of not paying $3 a trip with some of our locals.
Then, as usual, something goes wrong.
Belt snap, from busted idler pulley, with dead alternator. Took the opportunity to replace the rest of the belts and pulleys on the exterior belting system.
Back on the road after costly and timely bullshit.
As it stands now, it's awesome fun. Basic good nature, high revving air conditioned economical fun. I mean, after 5200, it just pushes!

Mods as follows;
Extractor back 2.25 stainless exhaust.
Some kind of yellow springs painted black.
Awful dick jones racing wheels.
Awful R.M Williams seat covers.
Apexi air filter (doesn't count, I know, just need some JDM credz)

Even still, I love it.
Plans;
Cut springz
Some heaps dished JDM XXRs
Welded front diff.
Sticker bombed panels...

But no seriously, it does need some better wheels, and something to help with its breathing. Does steer well with current setup, despite being FWD.

I know dick all about this car, so any suggestions will be considered.

Thanks for reading.

Blacktop 20v is a great engine... Been driving them in a daily for the past 6 years or so.

Put some coilovers in it, and enjoy

Much more refined than my old big port ke70.

Does it really need the coil overs?

I have owned an AE111 as a daily for about 7 years now, has been incredibly reliable, other than having to change the super strut links. I have only done minor mods, I fitted some Japanese Espeiler lowered springs and KYB Gear Climb shocks, it's actually too stiff for everyday but handles very nice. I fitte some HKS racing headers a while back, ruined the mid range but screams at the top, also have a different eu with a higher rpm limit, which it needed with the I.mec ram tubes and HKS headers. Fuel ecomomy is awesome, I really like them.

Doesn't really need coilovers, but you don't have to do much to the ae111's...

6spd lsd boxes are awesome and the 6spd ecu has the 8400 rev limit.

Well played, Toyota, well played....

Finding headers and such seem to be a little harder though. Where should I be looking?

Oh, and frak. Poncams, yay or nay?

Looking at getting a set of these;

A set of enkei rpf1's, but am not entirely sure of size/width. Will 16x8 work ok for strut clearance?

Any fitment help would be appreciated.

Haha yep. Almost exactly what mine will look like (minus the front bar) if I change the wheels over. Anymore inspirational photos seventy?
