well my blue ke has been sitting for ages after getting stickered n stripping it to build my 86. i came across a mate selling his stickered sr ke for cheap so thought stuff it n bought it.

was a really crap build and essentially just a ke with an s14 sr tech screwed in. nearly standard everything apart from an F series. in his defense he didnt build it haha

plans were to take the diff out and sell the car on but it was in poor condition and i couldnt bare to sell something so rough.

its been sitting in my front yard for 2 months but ive been off work with a broken collar bone so figured id just mash the two together. albeit a bit better built and some better parts

plans are to build a cheap drift thrasher that i have no real attachment to with parts i have laying around. seems to be working

engine:

s14 sr20
tomei rocker stoppers
greddy sump
polyurethane mounts
fmic, new joiners
worley alu radiator
greddy remote oil filter with braided lines
generic oil cooler
full s14 wiring loom, fuse box etc
standard ecu
boost T

Driveline:

sr20 gearbox
polyurethane mount
exedy hd clutch
custom 1 piece tailshaft
E series poo
redneck lsd

Fuel:

te71 jdm efi tank
2L surge tank in boot
bosch VL main
rattler lift
new hoses
te71 8mm feed line to engine bay

susp:

new poly bushes everywhere
+40mm rose jointed lcas
ajps 40mm rcas
tein coilovers unknown rates very stiff
trd yellows front
bilstein rear
rear low springs unknown rates very stiff
cusco cambertops
ajps lock spacer
jdi knuckles
jdm brakes
rda slotted + dimpled rotors

interior:
s14 dash
oil + boost gauges
under dash components removed (heater, blower etc)
s14 loom spliced into ke loom
ta63 carina passenger seat
sparco sprint fixed back bucket
new omp harnesses
hydro handbrake

body:

front on rear conversion
hand flared fronts
madhouse lip
quad lights
front gaurds cut for castor clearance
ultra racing strut brace
ultra fender braces

15x8 +0 rota grid front
15x9 +0 rota rkr rear X6
thats about it really.

what it used to look like

I missed the last 86 meet cause i was at work. N yea lookin forward to getting the ke finished. Should be a bit of fun at barbs.

Crossmember and front susp out of the donor today. Did a lil more on the fuel system too.

i also managed to get a sparco sprint seat, dish steering wheel with boss and a set of teins with trd shocks in them. Should be good

have also had a few goodies arrive which is always fun

a pair of teins with camber tops and trd yellows. unsure of the spring rates but they feel pretty damn stiff ( maybe too stiff)

well ive taken some time to sort a few lil things and get some decent photos so here they are.

all thats left to do is the front on rears conversion, make a plate to seal around the shifter hole and get a decent exhaust made up. (the current one is just a 2" muffler bolted to the 3" dump pipe, i know, shit)

also needs to go a lil lower after the gaurd work is done

anyways photos

how shes sitting now

ive spent the last couple of days doing the front on rears conversion and just doing some lil tweaks here n there. fitted an ultra strut brace and will be fitting the fender braces tomoz. how do ppl normall do this yarn? ie the most forward bolting section.

the worst thing was but... while i was out a bird came n shat all over my lovely precision welds. ahwell ;)

got my ultra fender braces fitted yesterday. was alot more messing around than i expected.

the brace fouls on one of the seams in front of the door so that had to be relieved and rewelded.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/1/0/1/509230.jpg (http://s1313.photobucket.com/user/cooter1098/media/DSC00471alter_zps573dc00c.jpg.html)

then theres nowhere for the end of the brace to bolt to so i had to weld a boss on which i then tapped to suit the 12mm head bolts

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/1/0/1/509231.jpg (http://s1313.photobucket.com/user/cooter1098/media/DSC00473_zps0652aa3c.jpg.html)

the gaurd also has to be relieved

sorry i didnt get any piks of the fitted. was sorta in a hurry cause it was gonna rain.

it didnt but so i did this for a bit of bozo style

yeah i might try borrow my mates gopro. see if i can do something worth getting footage of hahaha. the ae86 notchback bootlip i fitted was huge and doesnt really suit the car atm. i think it needs at least 15s on it and wider to pull that off. ahwell. i just bought a lil stick on one from ebay. $40 i think haha. itll do.

this went in on fri for its exhaust.

i got a 48h permit so i could drive it down. it was deffs alot of fun :)

exhaust is 3' mandrel bent stainless underdiff with a single muffler at the rear with droopy tip. (i love droop tips)
im quite happy with the sound and actusally picked up a lil power due to the last exh being a 2' muffler bolted to the 3' dump and ending there haha.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/1/0/1/509713.jpg (http://s1313.photobucket.com/user/cooter1098/media/86006_zpsb74fc691.jpg.html)

then i wasnt happy with how close the dump was to the floor and how much it was heating it up. i wanted to also exh wrap it to radiate a lil less too so i took the dump off, cut the flange off and welded a new longer section to it. then wrapped it

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/1/0/1/509715.jpg (http://s1313.photobucket.com/user/cooter1098/media/86007_zps39f6daeb.jpg.html)

will be fitting a full set of braided lines tomoz n that should be the last of the works it needs, then skids

29th June 2013, 01:43 PM
well i attended my first bdrift practice last night in this. it was alot of fun, the car performed really well and i got down with it pretty quick considering i hadnt drifted it yet.

theres a few lil things to iron out and a few tweaks id like to do before the next one.

# stiffer springs all round with adj shocks
# maybe sort out 15s instead of 14s
# fix headgasket
# replace fuel tank

after the 2nd group of laps i thought it started raining cause i was getting water on my windscreen but then noticed it was only on the right side. i knew my overflow bottle was full so figured it was that coming out the side of my bonnet. pulled into the pits and sure enough it was coolant and real full. it was also bubbling through the tube even though the car wasnt even remotely hot. ive suspected a blow hg for a while but so that pretty much confirms it. pinhole leak between a cylinder and the water gallery. ahwell it kept going for the night without a hiccup.

soz but this is the only pik i have of the night. was a lil too excited to stop and get some. there were a few photographers around so maybve some will show up

not really sure how you embed videos properly

"edit got it

just to note, that loud/bad noise in the vid isn't the engine or anything. It's the camera is mounted to the alu panel sealing off the boot and transmitting the rattle through to the cam

spent the last 2 days pulling the motor from this again due to the blown head gasket

can anyone guess the other 2 cars there?? ;)

heres the culprit. No3 cylinder. two of the other cylinders were suspect too along with some detonation pitting in cylinder 4. nothing bad though. gotta love ppl who just wind up boost willy nilly

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/1/0/1/509950.jpg (http://s1313.photobucket.com/user/cooter1098/media/DSC00521_zps549f9aab.jpg.html)

and you can tell its been burning coolant

ok, decided sometimes i need to go full retard to feel alive

got the hg all sorted, put the motor back together, fitted it, plumbed everything back up and.....
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/1/0/1/510249.jpg (http://s1313.photobucket.com/user/cooter1098/media/DSC00523_zpse071be12.jpg.html)

wtf is that?? hhmm its pumping oil out the side of the head.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/1/0/1/510250.jpg (http://s1313.photobucket.com/user/cooter1098/media/86010_zpsc2073cc8.jpg.html)

turns out the gasket i got was an s13 gasket whereas i have and s14 motor with the extra oil passage for vct. i STUPIDLY didnt even think to check if the two gaskets were the same. such a small lapse in concentration has resulted in me now having to pull the motor back out and fit another head gasket. awesome

motor is now sitting on my carport floor with me being pissed off for being stupid and awaiting a new hg. hahaha fun

righto, long time since updating

i managed to get a new hg for this, bought a nismo mls. fitted it, reinstalled the motor, ran it up, still bubbling out the rad F@#K!!

i was pretty much at the point of over it by then although i had signed up for 2 days of drift at collie motorplex. there was a bit of frantic running around. i ended going down to kyp and just buying a whole nother motor. i also did a few other bits n pieces like putting new wheels on, made the change to 15s, put +40mm rose jointed lcas on, 53mm alu radiator, new thermostat etc

bought 10 tyres with 6 spare rims 15x9 +0

did two 8 laps runs n just thought hhmm ill check if its bubbling whilst waiting in the pits. found that it was. decided stuff it ive come all this way and kept driving it for most of that day. called it quits about 3/4 of the way through due to it getting worse. it was alot of fun though, collie is sweet.
worst thing was that we werent allowed to leave till the end of the sunday so i was stuck there with a dead car. ahwell at least i got to watch and have some yarns with new ppl.

ive decided that i must have something underlying causing these motors to pop head gaskets so ive gone and bought everything i could think of that might be causing detonation and a few bits n pieces that either needed upgrading or i wanted so as to make the setup a lil more reliable

new genuine gasket seat
new genuine timing chain kit
still got the nismo mls
arp head studs
z32 afm
yellow jacket coilpacks
new coilpack wiring loom
new walbro 255 pump
new high volume facet lift pump
new filter
wiring that feeds the pumps is being upgraded due to suspecting a lazy wiring circuit
new exedy 6 puck clutch
new exedy flywheel
i bought an external venting dump pipe for the t28 (yes i know the yarns about sealing etc, and no its not for the noise, i get serious boost creep with this setup)
bought a hdi dual stage boost controller
bee*r rev limiter as i have a heavy foot and dont trust srs to not break at high revs so will set it around 7000
ajps front 8kg/mm front springs
ajps 6kg/mm rear springs
ae92 koni yellow fronts
ae86 koni yellow rears
innovate wideband
s15 480cc injectors
and last of all some megan (yes i know) bump steer tie rod ends. i will be doing away with thier adjustment piece as its known to strip

so that abouity does it for the list hahaha. its deffs cost me some coin but im hoping in the end i will finally have something reliable. ill also be sending it off to get a nistune to compensate for the bigger injectors and afm. hopefully make a lil more power too cause thats always fun :)

hope yas enjoyed haha. ive got a short vid uploading atm too

cooter
9th August 2013, 10:57 PM
haha its not really the motor thats a handful, more the soft springs and welded diff haha. being a fairly stock sr its actually quite behaved. when its keeping its combustion gasses in the pots n not the coolant that is
cheers but mate its real fun

nice build man good job!
how do you find the position of the shifter? it looks in the photos to be really far back..

cooter
14th September 2013, 08:51 AM
Haha thanks mate, fingers crossed I can get it back together for the next drift day. The shifter position is really good. My only problem was having to cut the floor bracing out and about 1/2 inch off the handbrake. I don't notice either of those anymore so now it just feels awesome. If I was to do it again tho I'd prolly use an rb20 box
