Being cold and rainy outside and unable to do what I want today I thought I'd share one of my little toys with you folks. Long termers here at DC in the know will remember this from back in '07 when Jay (Buddyparts) brought it in to Aus, it was owned by himself then Andy, Ross (all in SA) and now it's in my hands down here in Melbourne. There was a bit of stuff to get it ready for club rego here in Vic but a lot of the work is a credit to the efforts Ross put in when it was in his ownership also.

Looked like this when I bought it, big thanks to my brother Pete for road trippin' over to Adelaide with me in the Hilux with the tandem to bring her home.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/9/5/508467.jpg (http://s247.photobucket.com/user/stahlz_ae86/media/IMAG0281_zps61f3adc5.jpg.html)

Original doors came with the car, I put them back on, removed the busted lock barrel and had a T-18 one re-keyed to suit the rest of the car locks. I've re-fitted a lot of the removed parts and added some AE71 (rear centre) seat belts to each side in the rear. Still haven't got around to re-fitting the air con yet but that will probably happen around the same time as fitting the EFI stuff, I'm converting it back to original(ish) slowly as time permits. I've bought all the EFI gear from trademe NZ so most of that will be used on most likely a 3T/2TG hybrid running a haltech. I plan to make it look like an original TE71 GT engine bay when the hood is popped but have a little bit more life than the stock 2TG. The original bonnet was rusted pretty bad also so I've had a T18 S2 bonnet and scuttle re-painted / matched to suit the car. Also started making some wheels for it a while ago so I'll get them on it soon once finished, currently running my spare set of MA's. The Volks are on ebay, as much as I'd love to keep them I've found a recent hobby in searching yahoo auctions Japan for wheels, on the water currently I have a set of SSR MKII's, pair of Equip 02's and an Equip 03 then another pair of Equip 03's to also hit the water soon :S I recommend people don't make that a hobby. If you do, Dan's your man (JDM wheels Australia). Shockworks coilovers will make their way into this eventually too, I'm running them in my Pano and they're the business. Not going to bother with lows of any kind until then. I'm too old for choppies so it will be done correct from the start, I have a wierd kind of respect for this car that's never existed in me with previous Corolla's, haha. Got original mirrors to go on too when I make some mounting bases.

Came with a dead T-18 seat on the drivers side when I bought it, long story short, with the help of Craig at Just JDM Imports (brought in a passenger seat from Japan) and my Dad's trim work it is now looking like this...

It's been on club rego since back in November, big thanks to Adam for pushing through the club permit inspection just in time for Classic Japan (big TCCA organised event) and I have already used about 60 days of the 90 day club permit :)

Well that's all for now.

All welded up, blasted and ready to go to powdercoater. Also ordered a coilover sleeve kit from the states and will get some ST185 shocks, shorten the struts and throw the sleeve kit on to get this low before Classic Japan on Dec 1. Temporary lows until money permits good stuff for later on.

Wheels coated and ready for tyres, more dough next week. Hope to recieve the ST185 dampers (365077) tomorrow :)

Because the wheels are 14X7 -7, I'm leaning toward a 175/65 R14. If not I'll just go with the 185/60 again but this offset should fit almost flush with the guards so I was worried about tyres rubbing once low. Thoughts?

Got some rear springs out of an EB Falcon at pick-a-part this arvo, and some commodore wagon shocks on eBay which should arrive Monday :) dirty I know, but keen to be low in time for "Classic Japan" on December 1. Will go Shockworks kit next year no doubt but can't justify it quite yet. Looking forward to sorting out the rear end when the beautifully engineered Holden parts arrive at my door.

Changed those crusty old guard indicators this arvo too, the black base parts were perished so bad they literally fell apart when I removed them. Now sporting NOS lenses. Gotta find me some mint taillights and re-do the black stripes and I'll be heaps happier. One step at a time.

Pulled out the putrid falcon springs from the rear on Wednesday, installed some random yellow springs I had floating around the shed and put in a new pair of Monroe Commodore wagon rear shocks. Sits higher now but much more comfortable to drive :)

My WRX is absorbing all my money at the moment so good suspension will have to wait a while longer I think :( Might get a better/lower pair of rear springs until then.

Driven it from mums to the local car wash and back so yet to push the new tyres. Might do a hills drive next week. Keen to see how they go, but also really wanting to do the rack and pinion swap and Shockworks in the not too distant future. My Panelvan looks rough as guts, has a 4AC and handles like a go kart. This looks nice and goes ok, but needs to steer like the van. Excavating back yard in readiness for a shed really soon so all my projects can move along faster :)

Fitted the Koito foggies the other night, just gotta wire them up. Motorised covers worked mint when I tested them.

Classic Japan was a big success today, over 250 cars showed up in the rain.

If anyone uses Instagram my user name is the same there, I've been chucking up more pics of the day.

New slotted, vented, dimple drilled rotors. Torqued up on to spare hubs with new bearing cups pressed in, ready for Shockworks coilovers :) Got some new TRW/Lucas pads to go in also.

Gave this bad boy an oil change the other arvo, before driving out to Bendigo and coming home via Ballarat. Sits on 4000RPM at 110km/h, so I'm suspecting its got something like 4.3's in the arse. I'll pull the centre out soon to confirm and most likely install the 3.9 open centre I've got here to make the trip over to Adelaide in March a lot easier on the motor and my ears.

AJD here I come, providing I get the other prep sorted. Need to custom build some low seat frames, I've grabbed some old Teg seats from the wreckers that I can mod the shit out of.

Picked up my kit thisarvo. AE86 unequal bolt pattern wasn't going to fit the TE71 towers as they're an equal 3X113 PCD top hat, so Brett hooked me up with some different top plates. I've done a bit of a fiddle around and managed to CAD draw up how I'll re-drill them to gain better caster as part of the install too by pulling the top rearwards a touch.

And done, bit of stuffing about but hopefully well worth it. Allignment day will confirm.

Full suspension kit and new front brakes all installed, found the left inner tie rod end was flogged out during install so changed that too. While under the car I found issues with the alternator install. Poor pulley allignment and a main power terminal completely loose which had been arcing and weakened the stud, needless to say it snapped straight away when I nipped it up. Pulled alternator apart and replaced the stud, re-installed with better pulley allignment. Got the wheel allignment done today, sensible street settings. Car is completely transformed now, feels good. Looking forward to adding the rack and pinion steering in the not too distant future, but very happy with the progress so far.

Temporary diff center swap (taller ratio for highway) and rear brakes are next on the list. Then I'll build a custom air box thingy to replace the ramflo filters. The PCV line (I think that's what it's called) which comes out the top of the cam cover plumbs straight into the rear of the two filters (oiling the shit out of it and giving cylinder 3 a dose of fresh oil), so I'm going to install a catch can and plumb it back into the custom air chamber that I'll be putting on the side of the carbs. Just going to run an ugly 3" pod down low, might even put some short trumpets inside the air chamber on the side of the carbs. Going to buy some ally after work tomorrow so I can get started on it next week.

I'll bring it down and see you soon, gotta get exciting things like spark plugs & leads for the Cressy plus some bits for the pano.

I've changed the 4.3 LSD out for an open 3.9 centre in readiness for the interstate drive. Drivers side axle didn't budge until I modified the home made slide hammer to take a ridiculously heavy weight double the size of the original. I also fixed my passenger door lock this morning too. Getting through my shit little check list one step at a time :)

Fitted my new rear brakes this weekend and test fitted the air chamber dealy I started fabbing up last week. Waiting for toggle clamps and a couple more hours work should see this ready for final install with the catch can.

Nah was a one off in this instance to get my suspension in. Closest thing I found I think was E36 or E46 BMW had a similar strut top PCD or you could just buy a universal strut top. AE86 tops might also be a case of moving one stud to equalise the bolt spacing too, I did that for my cousins TA22.

Hopefully yeah, I think the bolt centres are 98mm so option A out of those three might be the go. Check your measurement on your strut top, yours should be same as mine.

Series 2 T18 lights should go straight in with a little sheetmetal spacer for the parker screws from what I understand. Those parkers wrap around further and have a different shape ^

Test fitted the crossmember Friday night at my cousins factory. As suspected from experience gained with the TA22 conversion there was sfa clearance between the drivers side gearbox stay and the uni joint that comes into the rack. Had to cut the tacks off the mounts and shift the motor towards the passenger side a smidgeon. All welded up and ready to go :)

All aligned now and feeling great to drive. Just need to source an MA70 intermediate shaft to improve the last step of the rack and pinion swap. AE71 column intermediate shaft is only just long enough to consider as "safe". It's doing the job for now but I'll be happy when it's mated home, through the whole length of the spline where it goes onto the uni connecting to the rack. Looking forward to going back to one key for the whole car too. Sydney WTAC show 'n' shine here we come.

MA70 intermediate shaft purchased, club permit renewed for a fresh 90 days. Car stored back at mums again while I'm flat out with work and trying to find time to change the wheels on my Civic of all the possible car related things I could be doing. Haven't had a "daily driver" since my Subaru carked it about two years ago now. Looking at keeping the WRX and using it as a weekender / toy once I do a couple more mods, an AWD tune and put rego on it again. Looking at buying another Datsun 620 kingcab in driveable condition as the project one I bought after a 4 year search isn't a runner, is a major fix up project. Toying with the idea of selling TE71, don't know what to do...

Nothing new, it spat a gearbox a couple of years ago and even though I've put a hybrid spec 2 in it, changed the driveshafts, put a new TCP 3 inch TBE on and half fitted an STI top mount I just stopped working on it and wasted time with the Cressida and now the Honda. It will need an AWD tune, full roady and rego to go back on road. I missed out on the Datsun I had my eye on unfortunately. Got crazy busy with work commitments and didn't call straight after the guy updated the ad.
