Have heard a few rumours floating around that at the end of August, Toyota Australia will be offering the TRD kit as an option to those who purchase the GTS86.

Costing is yet to be confirmed, but given the number of TRD 86 kits monthly bought into the country by our Forum Sponsor JDM Wheels, it is not surprising Toyota are offering it as an option.

The latest rumour out there is the FA20 engine from the Toyota 86 will be dumped and a newer FA25 engine will be installed in its place.

It is anticipated the extra displacement will see around 250 HP which is an increase of approximately 50 HP.

Whilst it is no turbo, at least it is a step in the right direction from Toyota.

They wont have their 86x86 stroke anymore though, lol

They are pretty adamant about no turbo from the sounds of the project leads

I'd prefer 86 more hp than a symmetrical stroke

yeah I know, gotta remember though, the 240Z is the car everyone looks back on fondly from that series, not the 260 or 280...

Hardly anyone with a 240z runs the stock block. They always either use the 2.6 or 2.8 from the aforementioned cars.
Good news but feel bad for first gen buyers

yes for the face lift model. everything im hearing is theyre going for sales and fucking everyone over. get everyone to buy a 2L model. get everyone to buy a 2.5L model a few years after. get everyone to buy a turbo model a few years after that.....

like a 240z i would be replacing the block in my 86 for more displacement. i hear though that its the same block just bored out to make 2.5L.... dont know how true that is. 0.5L is quite a bit of a bore....

they do the same with ej20/25s 92mm vs 99.5mm. subies do have a lot of bore meat

The latest rumour to hit the internet, is the hybrid GT86 will be available in 2015. Could this be the real reason why there is no Turbo?

Id say it'll be aimed at America. Most electric sports cars come out over there.
Its already good on juice, personally I dont see the need but the torque would be monstrous.
Wonder how much it'll end up weighing

The convertible FT86 concept is back again and it is rumoured they will be in production late 2014

Still don't know why they want to build a convertible? People haven't asked for a drop top, people are wanting more power, better brakes, better tyres etc. What would be interesing is the extra cost on the car for the convertible. See if it out weighs the cost of extra performance, i know what we would want!

Yeah but most people buying these that I see are either cashed up p platers, or 50 year olds having their mid life crisis. I would say the people wanting extra power would be a minority in overall sales.

I agree with what you are saying with the power, though those who aren't happy with the power output have already supercharged / turbo'd their cars.

Its easier to make a car go fast than to cut the roof off it and the sales figures ultimately are what Toyota care about. Each day on the way to work I see at least 4-5 of these on the road. In our carpark at work there is a dozen or so that are mostly owned by women.

I've been driving Rachel's for like 3 weeks. Don't need more power! So fun

Plenty of aftermarket options too for engine/brakes/suspension etc. I wouldn't be complaining.

Glad other people are saying it, they set the power to match the suspension brakes and tires (well at least brakes on the GTS).

If they released a turbo model it would cost at least 20k more from the factory, which would price them out of their own market.

You could argue they should have released the ae86 with a turbo option as well, but they didn't because they didn't need to and people did, and still do, love it as it was

If they released a turbo i am sure it would be hurting the subaru imprezza line up.

However, the lack of power as such is the difference between it being a good car and a great one. But for most people the power it has is enough.

sales figures world wide however also say they got it right. Though you do see allot of p-platers driving them
