The jointly produced Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ was released to the world a little over 12 months ago, and the uptake of it was greater than Toyota could have ever imagined. Shortly after release day, dealers where quoting delivery times of up to 18 months for the GT models.

If you have been seeing more and more of the Toyota 86 on the road, it is not surprising as more than vehicles have been delivered to our shores, making Australia the 3rd Most popular country for update of the 86.

Japan is number 1 with more than 30,000 vehicles being purchased, with the USA coming second with more than 20,000.

The UK and Canada are around 2400 units.

For around $30,000 there is not a better car you can purchase.

For those interested the GTS manual is the most popular choice, accounting for 40% of overall sales, and the GTS in total being 65%. This leaves 25% of all sales being the GTS Auto.

Not surprisingly, white is the most popular colour and another interesting statistic is 80% of vehicles traded for the 86 are not Toyotas.

86 sales would have been more than Ford Falcon sales in June 2013 if they delivered 5 more. Add BRZ and that trumps Ford by a long way.

Population to sales would well an truly be putting Australia in the lead by so much.

You're a numbers guy matt, what's the ratio?

It'll be at least 3-4 years before that happens.
