And the crowds did yawn.

Seriously though, I've never given less of a fuck about Apple gadgets than I have currently.

All the "gurus" I work with profess all kinds of wizardry thanks to using iDevices.

I call it bullshit :P

Disclaimer : I own an iPhone5 and it's OK apart from the lack of UV filter on the camera.

《Android user.
Iphones have always struck me as a phone with a few extra features, nice screens and great touch sensitivity.
Android's are more like mini pc's you can make calls with lol

Matt

Give it 3-5 years and your employer will be asking you to use your smart phone as a pc in the work place.

Nicko

Disagree.

Smart phones have a function and though that function may change, the revolution in the I.T. world seems to be spinning back towards dumb terminals

HaaS

Thanks citrix, VM, cloud etc.

I totally do not see the bloke here at work running a $6k PC with $10k of Solidworks being ported to iOS or Android. Ever.

Matt
12th September 2013, 01:26 PM
Virtual desktop will be still in the background, though your "terminal" to access it, what you use to take phone calls etc will be from a smart phone / tablet that you connect into a docking station.

It is in our roadmap at work

Nicko
12th September 2013, 01:39 PM
Too many bullshit manufacturers at play to come up with a unified business solution.

For your roadmap to work, apple would need to have a killer threesome with microsoft and android.

Next step, possibly "dumb tablet"

Still don't see people playing counterstrike or using solidworks on it

Matt
12th September 2013, 04:32 PM
Nup, just a virtual desktop client on the phone / tablet and a docking station that accepts an normal monitor / keyboard.

You can already run voip phone software on a android, iphone etc. and sound via an ICA session has been working for about a decade.

Interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Still don't see true decent cross-platform interfaces happening.

In the 3 horse race, two are still proprietary software that run 90% of the business software used.

And of those, only one is big on the back end stuff.

iPads have become something we use at work during customer interactions.

It feels more show off than actually useful

My employer does use my phone as a pc in my workplce due to it being the highest form of technology in the building

Nicko

Jesus, if an iPhone is the highest form of technology in a building, we're headed for extinction.
