Yeah yeah have a laugh, actively looking for a 4th gen civic wagon. Must be the 4wd/awd version in manual. Any state.
Cant post pics from my phone but looks like a turd on wheels....sort of like inspector gadgets car too I guess.
Maybe your nan has one. I want it. The car, not your nan

I actually saw my first one in adelaide a few days ago driven by some old bastard, 80's model, cool shit.

Has a d series motor, bulletproof.
Can slap in a b series motor easy.
Good on fuel and a billion 3rd gen civics at the wrecker for parts.
There is one for $500 on ebay at the moment but its fwd and auto.
Missed out on this one, sold ages ago the seller said, pissed it still listed

Well good news, spoke to the owner of the civic wagon in springvale and its as good as mine.
Its a six speed, 5+low range, mechanically perfect but the body and interior are pretty fucked. No biggie as I like shitters.
Has rego till may, I'll put up pics later. I'll also move this thread

dove grey 64

Thanks james, that one has been on gumtree and ebay for a while, being fwd and auto means its only good for panels and interior though.
Pretty good though, one owner and honda service books.
I've been low balling the owner for $200, she'll take $400. No dice lol

Can't wait to pick up the wagon, supposedly eg coilovers fit, will have to see if shockworks have some suspension to suit

B20b swap! Honda engines are seriously fun

josh.
19th September 2013, 01:00 PM
Buy my dc2r and put the engine in this! Hahaha these are awesome cars

dove grey 64
19th September 2013, 10:43 PM
Hah engine swap can wait. This baby has a sohc 16v 1.5l motor with twin computer controlled carbs pumping out 106hp at 6700rpm lol. Just read up that evo 8 seats bolt straight in ;)
Motor already has 450k on it and blows no smoke, runs smooth as. Would love to see how long it lasts.
ill fix up the interior and exterior, rims and suspension.
i still have the ae86 to get my drivers car fix, best thing to improve the feel of your ae86 is have a slower 2nd car

mcBen
19th September 2013, 11:02 PM
Is that the d15b..2/3? Fun begins at 3500 rpm ;)

dove grey 64
20th September 2013, 08:14 AM
I wish. I read up about that motor with 3stage vtec
Goes from running 8v to 12v then 16v throughout the range right?
I still think its odd being 16v and single cam

dove grey 64
21st September 2013, 04:47 PM

mcBen
21st September 2013, 09:06 PM
I think the D15b is the three stage one, D15b3 is non-vtec I believe. Still has poke though. Looks solid, what are your first plans?

Also lols just noticed groceries in the first picture, way to conform

dove grey 64
21st September 2013, 09:27 PM
hah, first plan is baby seat in the back (got one in my ae86 aswell, never been pulled over lol)
fit nardi wheel, get some 4x114.3 to 4x100 adapters and fit some meshies, cut springs or sort out some kind of suspension, get started on neutralizing rust and do bits of bodywork here and there, nothing drastic
also keep an eye out for some cheap evo recaros or new 86 seats and get them in.

dove grey 64
22nd September 2013, 08:33 AM
and remove nudge bar....

mcBen
22nd September 2013, 12:17 PM
Nice nice, Skunk2 suspension stuff is good value, all the American guys run it. Any plans for motor? I've heard the Sohc is good for turbo applications due to the rhythm of the exhaust or some shit. Also non-vtec so it would have a good comp ratio for it..

dove grey 64
22nd September 2013, 12:43 PM
Discovered a full set of factory floor mats underneath some generic aftermarket one. Bonus
Also removed nudge bar.
Suspension wise I had a look and the rear end seems to have some sort of adjustable shocks.
If I was getting coil overs id stick with shockworks to be honest. They make stuff that suits our roads well plus the after sales support being local etc

joeschmo_57

dove grey 64
29th September 2013, 10:33 AM

Has one of those jdm air purifier things mounted in the center of the roof with funky green interior lights

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/6/2/514742.jpg
all better now, excuse the seat cover and rubber floor mats, rubber matts are protecting the factory floor mats came with the car.

dove grey 64

Had it up on the hoist last night and underneath is really clean. No rust and dings
Just needs a drivers side front bearing as there is free play in the hub. Might be a loose cv nut. Didnt have time to check
Yeah pretty happy with the shocks but will still end up getting shockworks eventually, actually handles well even with mainly stock setup and really old chalky tyres

Had some delivery driver give me shit about the car while I was pulling off a wheel off to inspect the brakes and front end.
Nice to know its not appealing to bogans :)

dove grey 64
4th October 2013, 01:07 PM
Haha, but in all seriousness it's looking good dude :)

The interior is pretty good but the outside looks worse then it comes up in pics.
im not really fussed though. I was after a car that I could enjoy and not care much about so this fit the bill perfectly.
Im pretty smitten with it though but I dont want this to be a concourse build or anything. Just having some fun

few updates, scored some racing hart cp's in 14x6.5" +35 4x100pcd. sit well in the front BUT its just a pair, good luck finding another pair =(

retrimmed my sad looking center console, apparently these are extremely rare which is pretty cool, seems like this wagon was fully optioned with all the good stuff like rear center brake light, power steering, air con etc.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/6/2/515928.jpg
made my lower console insert usable again, previous owner cut out the ash tray and lighter part to fit a double din....
so i went to the wreckers and got another insert from a 89 civic sedan, turned out to be completely different even though it looked the same. so i cut the bits out of the sedan insert and glued them to the remaining wagon insert, if you thought old toyota parts are hard to come by its nothing compared to this. pretty much everything in a wagon is wagon specific, even the bonnet is shorter on a wagon.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/6/2/515929.jpg
finally spoke to the wheel engineering place stonestar in dingley and got some good news, my heros mesh can be redrilled to 4x100, so that'll be happening next week.

now to just get wheels fitted and some suspension, eg/ek suspension can fit in these so if this thread gets enough views and mods are eligible to win some shockworks my beater civic wagon could look a bit more like this

thanks haldun, i cant say i was always keen on these but in recent years i came to have a keen appreciation to cars that look a bit different
and when i finally started seeing some cool pics online of how these can look with a few bits done interest grew, then finding out there was a rare 4wd version sealed it for me, i was actually looking for a ae95r wagon after seeing mick mcgrah's awesome wagon but civic wagons appealed to me more i guess, then the hunt began...then remembered i kept seeing this one parked at springvale station for the last 11 years.
i still drive it to the last owners workshop to say hi, he's happy somebody is taking more care of it.

just ordered some bronze window tint off ebay
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/showthread.php/79002-honda-civic-shuttle-wagon

civics had a bronze tint option from factory, hard to make out in this pic

hoping it will be more like this

should match the factory bronze moon roof tint
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/8/6/2/514727.jpg
im not big into dark window tints on older cars, always liked seeing imported jdm cars with unique window tints from japan. so bronze is on the cards

dove grey 64
29th November 2013, 05:34 PM
Well test fitted the rims...bit of fail happening
Going to need a 5mm slip on spacer up front to clear the calipers and the rear wheel (14x7 + 2) pokes around a inch and a half past the guard lol
Needs camber kit and low plus a pull and roll.
I'd been checking out other wagons fitments and guys are saying 15x8 zeros go on easy......
Going over to a mates place tonight to see what we can work out. Pics to come when im back on the pc

How much was it to redrill the wheels?

Jimmee1990
29th November 2013, 11:42 PM
Looks like it will need a lot of camber, you sure just a roll? I'm reasonable at flaring metal guards if you wanted to give it a go?

dove grey 64
30th November 2013, 07:38 AM
Geoff $50 per wheel. With new inserts. They charge $30 per wheel for just a standard redrill.
James, by all means have a go, chris and I have both done it before but it'll be one of those get together and muck around days so the more the merrier

dove grey 64

might run it like this till i can sort out camber bits.

Was looking a bit cluttered and with the extra drag it was using more petrol. Normally averages around 550-600ish k's per 45l tank full. With roof racks on it dropped to 475ks per tank.
Still haven't serviced it yet, wonder how old the plugs are

will be borrowing a mates guard roller next week. another bummer is i fitted 5mm spacers to the front to clear the calipers, drivers side just clears but the passenger side still just touches....? so will need bigger spacers. depending on final ride height i may need to get camber arms, stock stuff gives pretty good camber when slammed but as im not going for made tyre tuck i might need some aftermarket stuff to dial in a bit more.

Just a suggestion that you may already know.

Over the years i have found that a light misting of soapy water to the clean glass surface allows you to reposition tints on the glass.

And generally fiddle with the fit once your happy run a squeegee over the tint to expel the water (it wont stick until the water is removed)

and its good to see some Honda love on hear

dove grey 64
7th January 2014, 12:32 PM
Thanks for the tips hayden.
First go was with soapy tap water with bad results, read up kmore and people said no more tears baby shampoo with distilled water must be used. Did that and was heaps better.
Wasnt having issuea with that bit, was awkward with the trimming on edges bit, I had to heat shrink every window, even that bit went well. The hard card I was using was scratching the tint and I was trying things like a micro fibre cloth over it etc.
Too hard basket. Like I said, a subaru would be a walk in the park with frame less doors

HaydenW
7th January 2014, 12:51 PM
no problem
a real squeegee works better then a card as its made of rubber and designed not to scratch but i defiantly understand tints going in the to hard basket especially considering its not that expensive to have done

Totally forgot about using timber with clamps. Might have another crack soon.
There is another bumper for sale on trademe at the moment for $40. Due to the size it might be hard to post though. In a dream scenario I'd find a parts car for $300 in victoria. Keep scouring the web everyday trying to find anything for this. Been offered a d16a8 which is a 1.6 dohc 16v, pretty much the early version of the b16a.
You can run these on twin carbs, so less hassle then anything efi.
Or then there is the minime swap which is a sohc vtec d16 head onto the stock D15b4 block.

Yeah not bad considering its a 1.5 twin carb sohc vtec.
My mechanic advised against the d16a8 dohc, not a direct bolt up to the stock carbs and heaps of wiring.
So keeping an eye out for a zc sohc vtec as in the above video. The only mods needed is a vtec relay.
Think I'll get back on track with some body work and suspension.
Need to do something about the lifting clear coat on the bonnet and roof. Also fix the passenger side rear quarter next up I think

dove grey 64
23rd January 2014, 06:37 AM
Yeah ed/ef hondas have grown on me heaps since I got this. Love the front end.
The sedans have a nice shape too. You could get a concerto with the 4wd drive train aswell. Few dudes have fitted the running gear to hatches aswell.
So when I took this out last night for pics I had a mad screeching noise when I pressed in the clutch, but the only evidence of weird shit happening under the bonnet was my power steering reservoir was spilling out of the top.
Screech sounded like pwr steering belt, but only happened with the clutch pushed in.... wtf is happening there

Release bearing may have crapped itself?

dove grey 64
23rd January 2014, 12:54 PM
Could be. Come around later if your keen to have a look.
Just odd that it only screeches when the clutch is engaged. Otherwise steering feels fine.
Im not up for a new clutch yet but im pretty sure the thrust bearing wasnt changed last time as it was always a bit noisy and the rear main seal had a leak apparently.
James could you get me a clutch kit price please?

dove grey 64
26th January 2014, 11:56 AM
I think your right ben. It has to be the input shaft bearing as the previous owner said it was worn.

Trouble is finding the part number.
Searching around the web just makes stuff more confusing, reports of 88 and 89 models having different spline counts by one tooth, this cars build date is late 88 but was sold as an 89.
Might just have to take out the old and measure it up.

This is it, comp finishes tonight at 12am.
Just wanted to thank everyone that checked out the build thread and helped out with the view count. The show of support for this unique ef wagon has been overwhelming.
If we win shockworks will have the opportunity to custom tune coilovers for the ef wagon, a world first as Nobody makes wagon specific coilovers.
So again big thanks to matt and shockworks, ae86dc members and guests from around the world.
Cheers
Geoff

taking the box out only took about one hour.
be ready tomorrow, slight mix up with clutch disks, setup was shipped with a 212mm clutch disk and 200mm PP.
should feel nice and new tomorrow, give it a service while im there.
should check out the timing belt too, was last changed 4 years ago, unsure of k's traveled since then and i believe this is a interference motor, one shit thing compared to 4age's

Can get new falken ziex in 165/60/14 for $78 on ebay. Not the best tyres but should be ok for daily use.

Not hard to make up but can get some for $100 so not worth mucking around.
Little lower with 165 on the front would work well.
When the rear drops another 25mm it'll house the 7's with 185 perfectly.
