Hey guys new to the forum, bought myself a 82 ke70 that had been converted to manual and had a bride drivers seat on a set of steelies, still in the process of gathering parts, bought a built fully forged sr20 that made 507hp on av fuel.

i have a few questions and many more in the future
- what steering/ front suspension set up is better?
trying to decide between s14 front end with r31 lcas or go towards the ae86 setup with lengthened xt130 lcas, love to hear all opinions and point me in the right direction thanks (pictures will come later)

S13 setup is aweful in my opinion compared to the ae86. Steering can bind and i'd strongly advise against it.

For the most part, Kelway / JDI knuckles with a lock spacer will give you more than enough lock. A descent set of ae86 coilovers will see it handling pretty damn good.

What is AV fuel?

Aviation fuel otherwise known as av gas. Leaded. The power it has achieved "should" be replicated using E85 with a suitable fuel system.

s13 front end can be a reasonable upgrade if thought about and applied properly. unfortunatley most corolla guys throw it in and expect it to work like apples and give it up as a shit job...

What would be a ideal front end setup? Any suggestions appreciated

You might want to run 2 044 pumps if using E85 and making 500+hp........ That is going to need alot of fuel delivery.......

Think I might get it tuned to 98, e85 isn't readily available near me and I'd like peace of mind not running out of fuel and no e85 in sight

The flex controllers allow the tune adjusts automatically based on the ethanol content. It's not a dual fuel map like it used to be

How did you go with fitting the RB25 box much tunnel mod/bashing??

Not sure if this computer allows me to do that but I'll look in to it, haven't got anywhere near fitting motor and box, saving money to buy more parts, being a 3rd yr apprentice is tough ahah

Hope your planning on a full cage or seam welding and equal 4 link in the rear.

The chassis will be buggered pretty quickly running 500hp at the treads on a stock shell. (The upper trailing arm mounts are prone breaking/snapping in half with big power cars. Plus everything else will bend/buckle/twist)

What diff are planning on running?

Will be doing a lot of bracing throughout the whole car to stiffen the chassis and body up including a support bar in the boot, front strut braces and possible one inside the footwell in rear seats,

Coilovers will be here either today or tommorow and then I'll be ordering hoppers stoppers brake kit, went with them because they have a good value for money and everything is brand new.

Then I'll be looking in to ajps for the remainder of my front end parts, bushes rcas ect.

Slowly getting my new workshop kitted out, picking up a hoist Friday and new parts washer and mig gas, then I have somewhere I can pull it down and talk to a engineer.

Seriously consider a full cage or as much as you can get away with legally.

haven't posted in a while so due for an update,
been getting my new workshop setup for me and my old mans cars.

finally made a start and removed the old engine as it was getting tired and overheating and just running like sh*t.
gathered nearly all the parts I can think of that ill need,
- omp steering wheel
-cusco strut brace
-ajps caliper bracket
-rx7 calipers
-ae86 hubs
-civic rotors
-rcas

started pulling apart my front end and installing my new shockworks coilovers, look good so far but soon ran in to problems with my ps arms not lining up with the rcas, so will need to suss that out soon, heres some pics so far, getting some hardware tomorrow for the caliper brakets and a few bits and pieces. engine mounts will be on order next week.

if anyone can chip in and confirm how far down/ correct position of the coilover on the first picture? unsure if it needs to go down or not.

take the rca off the knuckle, sit in on square and tap it down evenly with a soft faced mallet while supporting the lca/balljoint with a jack. they are tight for a reason.

Will try tommorow but I doubt it as the knuckle is out by atleast 1-2mm

Sounds like you either have ke70 struts or ke70 knuckles. They are about 1-2mm narrower than the ae86 gear.

They were sold to me as "ae86 cut and shut shortened knuckles" they are a horrible backyard job imo

Talk to Brenton Lapworth then and get some better steering gear. I got mine from him, he does really good prices and his work isn't dodgey...

Last thing you would want is to have a steering arm snap on the street after spending so much time and effort building a 500hp streeter.

havent updated in a while but a heap has happend in the last few months,
me and my old man moved in to our workshop so we now have a dedicated place to work on our cars and chill out. hoist, compressor, tools and cabinets have been added so far. bar theartre room kitchen to come.

i got straight to work and started by removing the old 4k and tore my front end down and powdercoated everything black.

lots of parts have arrived including hubs, xt130 arms, lock spacer, bushings, coilovers and more,
most of my front end is together all freshly powdercoated. i want everything fitting up before i decide to paint anything else.

boxed up my xt130 arms, unsure if i should remove the steering stops (engineering and rego) but i would like to find out before i powdercoat them.

my ke conversions engine mounts and pedal box arrive and i dropped my motor in for a test fit, looks good although it hits my greedy copy plenum on the brake booster, so am curious to see if anyone else has had that problem and how they got around it? im going to scallop it out and weld it back over if there isnt a easier fix.

everything is going smooth so far but i feel i might run in to problems with clearance for my rb25 box clearing the tunnel, will find out tommorow night when i test fit the box.

restoring my brake calipers in the coming weeks and hopefully some changes for clearances.
heres some pictures so far. update again soon cheershttp://i65.tinypic.com/zkpatu.jpg[http://i65.tinypic.com/2ujgmiq.jpgIMG]http://i67.tinypic.com/51sp07.jpg[/IMG]http://i68.tinypic.com/rt0v12.jpghttp://i65.tinypic.com/34ih27a.jpghttp://i63.tinypic.com/2gv50fl.jpghttp://i65.tinypic.com/ddgivl.jpghttp://i64.tinypic.com/sm6jw9.jpghttp://i64.tinypic.com/zks87l.jpghttp://i66.tinypic.com/2hr0g21.jpg

definitely remove the lock stops - they didnt have them factory

also dont forget your locking nuts on the tie rod tubes (they are missing in the pics)

Keweapon
11th May 2016, 01:57 AM
Going to cut them off tommorow and finish them nicely so I can drop them at the powdercoaters and then have my bushes pressed back in the following week, as for the tierods, almost certain they didn't come with locking nuts.

definitely would have been in the box, but can send you some more if you dont have them, send me your address to sales@ajps.com.au
