picture it in the bay with the motor tilted!! will look good and will alow the rad hose to fit perfectly!
this was based on the toyota design but i made it lower still so you don't have to flip the water pump inlet around.

Well done. Great to see people getting in there and doin it. Im also doing a silvertop 20 valve conversion but into ke 70. How do i get one of those water block housing for the back of the head. I have already done away with the dizzy by upgrading the microtec computer it had and runing four seperate coils. Like i said, great work and any help with this would b greatly appreciated.

little update!
hope to have a lot more snapps by the end of the wkend.

but so far i've striped my gearbox and its sitting in a metal clean tank at work!
found that my seal from toyota for theinput shaft snout actually fits!!

ryan and i lifter my motor in the bay to start running the wiring...
hiding all of it! the fusebox ignitor coil starter relay etc is all getting put inside the car behind the firewall. also we sussed out exactly how to finish the airbox
in such a way that it hides the massively ugly afm! so minimal wiring in the bay and no clutter!!

just some starter pics!

craig cleaned his gearbox how you did

bearings were fucked first drive

were they f;d before?
well degreaser is jst that only degreaser. the bearings as far as i could tell are oil fed. so i would be likely to believe that they were f'd beforehand.
degreaser is non costic so it doesn't even affect rubber.

engine bay is probs about 60% stripped back to metal.
come to realise that i can't finishe of the rear end until i can get my rotisserie.
welding underneath a car just aint fun.
i have the rotisserie just nee d to modify it a bit.
but i need to be back at work for that.

update.
my gasket kit arrived today... full of toyota goodness.!!

did some more work on the bay smoothing.

sat down and planned out my engine build..

. ARP rod bolts
. ARP main studs
. ARP head studs
. ARP flywheel bolts
. Fully balanced bottom end with gze pistons
. ACL race bearings
. Supertech Valves 1mm oversize + valve springs + titanium retainers
. Intake ported
. Exhaust ported
. need some more research into cams... may leave em stock.
. TODA metal HG 0.8mm.
. At this stage i believe i'll be using an EMS computer. have one sourced still trying to decide if its gonna be good enough.
. 30mm trumpet inside custom plenum
. Td-04/05 turbro on custom turbo manifold.
. tomei crank cap ladders

about as fas as i've gotten. but should be a tough engine.

turns out its quite easy!

rear guard.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/19301.jpg

front... need at least another 20mm
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/19302.jpg

marked the cuts out (note how they get smaller... this will help to retain the bodylines and provide a smooth transition.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/19304.jpg

bend em out a bit till you get your desired flare. tack weld then full weld.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/19305.jpg

grind smooth.

onece they are all done figreglass it and prime and prep it so its smooth for paint.

only a test panel so i won't be doing the smoothing. but yeah thats todays progress.

24th July 2009, 07:24 PM
hey just a question, i thought that fiberglass rusted the steel?(probs wrong) and can u fiberglass fiiber glas to metal?

greenmac80
25th July 2009, 09:28 AM
nah fibreglass doesn't rust steel.
fibreglass is best applied to bare metal. the fibreglass i use i laced with stainless
steel. good quality stuff.

but in saying this because i've been etch priming then scuffing then using the glass.... guess i'm paranoid about rust.

or you can go bare metal glass it then etch prime. this way any bare metal surfaces left still get rust protection.

thats incredible work man. you need a medal or something, vic cross perhaps?

greenmac80
31st January 2010, 08:16 PM
haha your a tripper dude.. you haven't seen anything yet ay!!

well long story but over the last few months i've been thinking to myself....
i botched some of those rust repairs. used waaay too much bog and fibreglass. although it
more than likely woulda been fine i've still decided to start over.

i have recently become aquainted with a qualified panel beater and he's agreed to help me out with this beastie.
so...

i stripped the drivers side rear vent section, flare, and rust repairs.

here is pics.

before
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/35723.jpg

cut this out.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/35724.jpg

the gaping hole. we're gonna kinda tub it but reverse... the inner arch will be replace with a new arch kinda box shaped to allow clearance for
wider wheels, the old job still only allowed for an 8" wheel i'm aiming for 9-10"
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/35725.jpg

bare metaled and the vent section cut again. my god this car had warped badly. since cutting and stripping tho its kinda gone back to it original shape.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/35726.jpg

also i've started stripping the engine bay as i've decided to go a different path with the bay.

progress should come along quite well now... hopefully.

hells yeah man. 2xvic cross! (there are only like 13 left to be given out... ever, u might end up with all of them). I was looking at the bog, although awesome i think the same thing that was playing on ur mind came to mine "definantly better to replace metal with metal and not bog / fiberglass". Even tho this is probably the most extreme rebuild thread ive ever seen i think it just went to the next level. Keep up the awesome work. dont get disheartened, i know i might.

greenmac80
2nd February 2010, 10:08 PM
cheers man your a legend!! sometimes feedback is the only thing keeping me going.!
make me think of how good its gonna be the first time i drive it!

well anyways..
Ok i have a biiigggg weekend planned for this puppy.

basically strip bare the floor pan inside and out engine bay and boot and prime.

i purchased another 4 litre kit of high fill parabuild protec primer. 2 pack.

also purched some protec clear. called profile i've worked with it a few times and its really good and quite cheap. also 2 pack.

then i think next week end i may paint the KE30 now that i have all the gear.!

greenmac80
2nd February 2010, 10:09 PM
also hoping to get dry ice this week to get rid of all the sound deadening. oh and to help with the stripping i'll be using a gravity feed sand blaster!

greenmac80

4th February 2010, 12:21 AM
dont use a sandblaster the beads will just get lodged into the tar. all i did (did it on friday) was put dry ice down for 2mins mmoved it and smacked the floor and it just pops off.

greenmac80
4th February 2010, 05:53 AM
yeah thats what i'm doing. then i'm sandblasting it to clean the rust and welds etc.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/36344.jpg

here is another one of my awesome ideas that is gonna make this build take even longer.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/36345.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/36346.jpg

basically these vents allow alot of water in when raining. there isn't really adequate draining here. so water sits in there
and rust from inside out. Big NO NO so i'm shaving them.

i'm aware that this provides air to the cabin but... i have a few ideas on how to route air to the cabin a different way.

greenmac80
6th February 2010, 08:15 PM
and finally... making a larger opening for a larger radiator.

this top section i'm going to make bolt on so its easy to remove if needed.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/36347.jpg

original hole.

440mm i think i can't remember but around that.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/36348.jpg

enlarged to 580mm to fit a sprinter sized radiator. also the hole is a lot more centralised.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/36349.jpg

and capped.

don't worry i wire brushed the inside.. only the outside is rusty and the car is going to my work for sandblast in approx 3 weeks anyways.

Rust!
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/46516.jpg
there is more but i didn't take photo's yet. will do once its on the rotisserie.

next step is to remove front end suspension and throw it in the bin. and replace with castors.

hopefully friday i'll be getting some dry ice to remove the sound deadening from the floor pan.

then to do some under body bracing before the next wkend.

once sandblasted... will be on the rotisserie for this. it will be getting all the inside and the floor pan underneath+ engine bay all powder coated with a zinc primer. hard as nails and with a 80 micron coating has a 15year warranty.
then 2 pack primer the rest.

greenmac80

progress is still happening to this beastie..

colour has been changed. Going with DNA 'dragonfly green candy'

lately been trying to sort out rust treatment and proofing for my doors.
the corners are very hard to treat. i'm currently doing one door now. i've stripped the paint off of it inside and out!
rust converted
cleaned
rinsed
treated again
rinsed
zinc phosphated
rinsed,

and tomorrow the paint will go on. its a sealer. and it goes hard with moisture! which is perfect. so provided its sticks and seals then the doors will very nearly never rust again!
probs will but ay hopefully not in my lifetime.
hopefully finish treating the door tomorrow night and prime the whole thing.

cheers, Luc

the primer i'm using is a single pack primer from protec. its and etch and an adhesion promoter.

i vote yes to the ke10, but no to that colour

I really reckon you should do an original colour, even a nice baby blue or something

ewww. lol baby blue?? nah then i'd be like every other KE10 out there. this is gonna be different in many many ways.
so why do you not like the idea of that type of colour on this but on my KE30 you like the non standard orange?

Not many out there to be like every other one haha. But I havent seen a baby blue one before

What else you doing to it?

Im not really a fan of ke30s in general, but i really like ke10s and like seeing them original.

Just my opinion, do with it as you please

well i've been itching to tell the engine choice. but since you ask..
the car is getting a 2zzge + quad throttles and aftermarket ecu.

for the moment i'm concentrating on the body.
its coming along nicely i have about 30% of the body straight. still alot more to do. about 1/4 of the way through the roof.
trying to organise some panels for it.. but if i can't find any then i'll try and use my mates straight panels to make some fibreglass gear.

i'm undecided exactly what direction i'm gonna take the car. i want to be able to drive it on the street.. take it to shows and perahaps every once and a while take it to a track.
big ask. But my plans do include a bolt in half cage for it.

once the car gets to work a bit of seam welding and chassis strengthening will happen.

Win on motor.

yeah a mate has a zze123 corolla and i fell in love with the engine. i think in a lightweight car + some mods should possibly get 130-140KWATW NA. rev like fuck.. just the way i like to drive.

haven't done too much to this lately.. been working on the daily more..

but i've started designing flares for it...
40mm

don't mind the bog.. i' trying out a new method... they do it in the states where you skim the car with a layer of bog.. and sand it back.
its working really well. you panel beat the dents. skim it sand back with 40grit and basically in one hit its straight.

and i've collected ke20 front end gear for it.

so progress is still happening with this thing..
currently its tipped up on its side.
diff has been removed. and i've begun rust repairs.
the bottom rear quarter on te drivers side has had to be completely rebuilt. the outside has been finished.. still need to repair the wheel well and the backside of the bottom bit.

also cut out a huge chunk of rust in the sill panel.. really annoying here as both layers of metal a fubar so i'm having to try and stitch in 2 layers to retain
the stock drainage and strength..

attempted to use a gravity fed sandblaster to do the bottom of my floor pan but it takes way too long.. so the car will be heading to my work soon. there it will have the floor pan blasted..
then stitch weld the chassis and primed in a protec zinc phosphate.

flares are being ditched.. not doing em car is taking a different direction will go bolt ons later on. although temporary its gonna get regoed with a 3k and become the daily for a while..
the current daily will come off the rd for a full rust cut and repaint.

the reasoning behind this is the fact that the 11 will have to go through regency for rego so i have to put a stock engine in it anyways. so this being fresh and stock will give me good timing to redo the paint on the ke30.. will be schmiko when finished.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/53547.jpg
and then since both layer were buggered i did the first inner layer.. rust conert and Red Brown primer..

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/5/3/53550.jpg

as you can see the outer skin had rusted quite a ways up so to make things easier i cut it back to the body line.
and plated it back up.
