well i'm pretty bored so i thought i would start a thread on my ae71.
i brought it a few months ago as an auto and it was stock as a rock.
i had plans of just putting in a smallport and do some suspension mods but it ended up like this.

Engine:
the engine was a smallport that needed a head freshen up. i ended up building it to handle some boost and to these specs.
head was just a stock rebuild
>acl race bearings
>balanced rods
>genuine 4agze pistons and rings (8.9:1 cr)
>used a full acl race series gasket set.
>cut n shut manifold
>kkr280 turbo with external gate
>microtech LT10s with x4 bosch coils
>550cc rx7 injectors
>280x300x76 intercooler
>camry radiator with twin thermos
>bosch style 910 pressure pump
>vl high volume in tank pump set-up
>8mm fuel feed line and using stock supply for return

Driveline:
getting upgraded asap!!
>t50, HD organic clutch
>stock diff to be locked

Interior:
>stock except for
>twinky steering wheel
>guages as seen in pic (oil press, water temp and boost)
think thats all

Exterior:
>2 sets of ma61 wheels
> front guards welded onto rear

suspension is just chopped springs for now.
i do have tein camber tops but havnt put them in yet

plans are; (in order of when i wanna do them, hopefully get all the suspension and driveline upgrades done asap)
tarago locked diff
w55 gearbox conversion
custom steering arms
ae86 coilovers up front with decent brakes as the stock ones fade BIG time
xt130 LCA's
falcon choppies in the rear with commodore shocks.
some decent seats
flat front and chrome bars
maybe some 15x8 superlights or challengers

the car is currently on a run in tune and it should be getting a final tune in the next week or 2. it needs an adjustable fuel pressure reg as its running 50psi fuel pressure and it should be lower.

i will upload pics tonight and more details.

stay tuned

Nic

special thanks to
TTG for the help with finishing the conversion
Nath for wiring the thing
JDI fabrication for the fab work
and finally maztech for the tuning

are you running spacer at all? what size tires are on it?

The ma61s look real good on it!

Nic19
27th July 2009, 08:42 PM
no spacers at the moment, i really need about 25mm but im gonna wait till the tarago diff is in then work out the offset.
yeh the rear 61's look good cos i painted the cut outs black, havnt done the fronts yet lol.

That turbo is cute.

28th July 2009, 01:57 PM
nice as man, engine build is sweet, nice parts :)

Nic19
28th July 2009, 06:20 PM
is it normal for a fresh engine to be blowing some blue smoke?? my only guess is thats its from the bedding in process? its only done just over 400kms since the full rebuild?

stahlz the cooler is getting painted black so that it doesnt stand out like dogs balls. but the green P's dont help!!

as for the turbo it will do fine for now till the suspension is up to scratch.

Hey nice car mate.. You got any pics of the car front on ? I wanna see where the intercooler sits and did you have to remove the radiator to bonnet support.

That turbo is cute.

haha + 1 looks kinda stupid just sitting out there like that:sunnies:

Nic19
28th July 2009, 11:03 PM
i will try get a pic of the cooler front on. no i didnt remove any of the support work in the front. only cutting was to allow air to flow to the rad better.

turbo spools up really quick, its got awesome response. i will see how it goes on the dyno and i might change it to something bigger and go for around 190-200rwkw

29th July 2009, 12:01 AM
car looks tops man!, don worry bout big numbers, response is where its at!

yer man mine had 150-160rwkw at about 15 pound fuk tht is fast in a rolla bro u wont need 200,my m8 has a rb20 in his and its just stupid

reecegze
30th July 2009, 04:25 PM
Just remember 200 kw is at 7000+ rpm and in 4th gear. I rather 160kw in 3rd gear 4000rpm. Much more useable power on street/track

yeh well its the last of my worries at the moment. i will see wat it makes and then go from there.

first things first i wanna get the driveline and suspenion out of the way.

how do people rate tarago diffs with this power figure??

also had a leak on the oil return due to silicone hose, now about to change it to flame proof rubber.

only 380 more kms till re tune :D

what oil should i run in this thing??

Nic19
1st August 2009, 03:40 PM
cooler and piping have now all been painted black to help keep things stealthy looking.

also replaced the silicone hose on the oil return to proper flame proff oil rated hose.

also got a pic of the cooler/radiator mounting.

1st August 2009, 04:44 PM
nice car mate, with your blue smoke issuse its normal normal for fresh motors to blow abit of blue smoke and they they tend to breathe abit heavy as well, make sure you are putting some load on the engine eg: (hills driving) to help bed in the rings

Nic19
1st August 2009, 04:48 PM
yeh have been loading it up over the hills and what not. just loadin it up wen driving normal and keeping the revs never the same.

had it not idle very well after going through the hills thurs night. my guess is that its cos the intake side of the cooler piping was ice cold and the engine was normal temp. would this cause this problem??

Nic19
2nd August 2009, 08:35 PM
well iam picking up some sprinter struts, brakes and lines next week. so hoping to install them with my tein camber tops and possibly my sigma control arms as soon as i can.

i should be getting back to the dyno towards the end of this week to get my final tune and some power figures!!!

Maztech

Nic19
9th August 2009, 05:13 PM
picked up my ae86 struts today so i will hopefully clean them up and put them in with my sigma arms while i save some money to get the steering arms modded, the coilover sleeve kit, kyb inserts and rx7 brake set-up. i already have the fc calipers tein camber tops and the arms so shouldnt be too long :D

Nic19
11th August 2009, 05:48 PM
picked this up from the final tune today and it makes 185rwkw on 15psi from the lil kkr280. also got the fuel pressure reg mounted and set-up so it runs really good now. only issues i have is there is a hole in the inlet manifold welding, and also just need to re route my battery cable line.

now i gotta get off my ass and do the suspension.

reecegze
11th August 2009, 08:02 PM
Pretty good results mate. You got a dyno graph pic wanna see your curve.. What was the reason for the Fuel pressure reg was the car leaning out ? is it a raising rate also.

Nic19
11th August 2009, 08:07 PM
i will get a dyno graph asap. prob have it on the weekend as i left it at the place! dammit! the fuel pressure reg was fitted to reduce fuel pressure as im running rx7 550's there was too much pressure to them and was running on the rich side.

UPDATE!!!!
i made a tacho booster thingo, so now my stock tacho in the dash works off the microtech which is awesome!!!!
also installed some speakers into the rear parcel tray.
dropped plug gaps to .6mm to try get rid of the miss at about 4700rpm.

Sprinter86
17th August 2009, 06:09 PM
I dont want to live in a world where ma61's get painted red and white.

*LOADS PISTOL, HOLDS TO TEMPLE, PULLS TRIGGER*

Nic19
17th August 2009, 06:12 PM

Nic19
18th August 2009, 05:58 PM
haha now u just need to lock that diff up

Nic19
10th October 2009, 05:49 PM
soooo.....

Stock diff is now locked, seems to have lasted so far, i have an r31 diff that im going to set-up in the meantime.

I have now upgraded to the AJPS rx7 front brake set-up, just waiting on rotors.
Front end now has:
sigma LCA's
custom steering arms that provide massive lock
ae86 struts(to be coilovers)
rx7 s5 calipers with the ajps adaptors and civic rotors
tein camber tops

next thing thats getting done is the diff conversion
will be an r31 diff with 4.11 center and minispool
vs brake calipers
and hydro handbrake.

Then i want to get my w55 thats waiting for me into the car!
after this i will get some 15x8 -9 challengers
then fine tune the suspension with bilstein shocks front and rear, front coilovers set-up with 8kg springs rear will have some 6kg springs, then RCA's, swaybars ect

somewhere in that period i wanna put a gt28rs turbo on it!

They are the plans anyway things change so will see how close i can stay to my plans!

Nic19
25th November 2009, 07:08 PM
update time!
snapped an axle in the stock diff, so i picked up my 31 diff housing thats been modded to suit the corolla. just need to put it all back together!
it will have vn brakes and a hydro wen i get around to making one up.
i will get some pics up of the job on the diff. its done really really well, great qualiy work.
also the shock mounts have been flipped to run sierra shocks at a decent height.

Nic19
5th December 2009, 06:22 PM
someone should buy my ma61 wheels so i can get 15's!!!
throw some offers at me

Nic19
30th January 2010, 07:21 PM
I have been working flat out on the car lately. just finished bolting in a w55 with AJPS shifter rebuilt kit through it and new exedy HD button clutch with gze flywheel, just need the tailshaft made, hopefully this week.

also got my cam covers powder coated black and shaved back the letters to silver and custom fitted the spark plug cover to accomodate my leads upto the coils on the firewall. will get pics soon im really happy with how it came up :D

Im buying an oil cooler kit next week with filter relocation so i will fit that up and then hopefully have enough money left to get my garrett gt2860rs.

i will update with pics of enigne bay once i have the turbro on there.

Read about your misfortune at winton , any reason for why the fresh motor failed ? Was it bearings or detonation

Nic19
24th March 2010, 06:32 AM
Think it was detonation. Haven't got the car home yet so can't be sure till it's open but it's dropped compression on one or more cylinders.
