Default Gas strut between strut top and engine

Random question...I remember someone made a thread about doing this a while ago, but I can't seem to find it...

I have picked up a new gas strut from some Jeep and want to fab some brackets up and run it horizontally between my strut top and engine as an engine dampener...

Question is..the engine bolt I was going to run it to is used for the engine hooks which is not inline with the strut...would it matter that it is not inline??
Or could I bolt it under one of the nuts for the extractors?

    Hope that makes sense!

    Cheers

It is best if the strut is "in line" from chassis end to motor end (perpendicular to the crankshaft), but if it's not far out it won't be an issue. I'd say having it bolted to your extractors could be a little too warm.

Also is the strut you're using meant to be an engine damper? If it's just a hatch strut it may not be too good.

as in no movement at all??

The strut I have isn't designed to be an engine damper, don't think its for a hatch though either, my mate took it from his work...its just a bit of fun to fab up the brackets for it..

The only places I can see on the exhaust side is off the extractors which may be too hot or off the engine hook bolt at the rear of the engine, but I don't think the angle will work...might look further down to some of the bolt holes that held the power steering and a/c (it's a GZE), and fab a bigger bracket than I had hoped but bolt it more than once...

So Im assuming the motor is a TT 1UZ.

If you got a 4a or a 4k and you want a torque damper its a fuggin joke.

    What is it, April 1st?

i put a s13 one on my sprinter to try to stop teh chassis twist and stop the tunnell cracking, its a china one which as lawson said is solid and not a gas shock as such. it bolts onto the head above the exhaust manifold but i dont see why u couldnt bolt it to the mani bolts!! heres a pic of how the brace works
