Gee, easy to come by car parts, snow boarding every week end...
You sound like all the other Aussies in Japan.
Where do you go snowboarding? My mate Andy just got a video snow boarding down the road on Mt Akagi.

Any ways have fun with your car, and have fun with Japan.

Yeah, there are always a lot of Aussies skiing/snowboarding! I've been going to Nagano area (Hakuba, Shiga kogen and Ontake) then to Gifu also ('Dynaland' yesterday, awesome powder!)...

Getting parts and that sort of thing is good but the thing that sucks here is it's hard to get anywhere to work on your car. My car park is a gravel patch and I live in a 4th floor apartment. Unless you are pretty rich its hard to get garage space.
Consequently I've been paying someone to do work on my car that I could easily do myself back at home. You take the good with the bad I guess...

Marry a rich japanese girl!! Or become friends with some D1 drivers.
How long you gonna be in Japan for? If I get the right job here in Brisbane, I'll be back over in Japan again before this year is out.

Hachi sittin' in the snow looks rad man. Should get a kei car for snow drift.

    Hey,
Helmet was relatively cheap! about 48,000yen ($600AU) - cant find the receipt right now though so will have to check.
They are well over a grand in AUS ()

The class I want to go in is really basic.
They call it N1 and it is for only lightly modded cars,

Engine is stock cams only, higher compression is allowed though.
Coilovers are ok but many don't even run them.
Must runn full factory glass but FRP panels are ok.
No cage required but you need a harness.

    Quick update.
I took it to the track on the weekend to have a bit of a practice on the track that race 1 will be on.
Unfortunately it was wet so I couldn't get a good time to compare against the guys in last season however there was 1 other ae86 out who raced last year.
I also found that I had the old 4age oil surge in the head problem. There was a long fast left hander and after that (under acceleration) it would bellow out whiteish oily smoke, also there was oil coming out of the intake and a bit in the cam cover breather tube.
So it looks like an oil catch can will be required for next time.

I also ran some new tyres, Dunlop Direza Z1. The grip out of these things was amazing, even though it was really wet I was surprised at how much grip they had. They were also really progressive, when you get to the limit it doesn't just slip, they start to slip a little and there is heaps of opportunity to make slight adjustments and bring them back to the point where they are producing grip.

    Anyway, pics:

Here is the Oil smoke, apparently most AE86's smoke through this corner, after a big left hander.

Even though my suspension is relatively stiff I still get some good lean through the corners. Just shows how much grip the tyres have!

For a Japanese track this one has quite a long straight, I was getting about 150kmph at the end of it after coming out of a low speed hairpin.
My engine is pretty stock so I expect I'll be destroyed on the straight.

My mate brought his R32 GTR, I set a better laptime (he had poor tyres though and a fair bit more weight)

This guy was doing about 1:15:000, my best time was 1:13:131

This is my mechanic, he was taking it easy and totally killed me. He runs in the GT class which is the next one up, all dedicated track cars, rather than a mixture of track and street cars.

Another GT class car, this one and the other red one were pretty even

I was actually faster than this guy in the M3 awesome car though, it should have been driven faster!
