i drove my mates legnum today, its auto with tiptronic box etc

i put a boost "T" on it today and wound 12 psi into it (6-7 ish stock) and they really do go well... loads of torque which is good for towing

the turbos on them stock are steel wheeled n shit so can take a bit more boost no worries BUT are wayy too small for the engine, standard they will rev to over 7k rpm and i noticed today after being in it on stock boost and higher boost that the turbos run out of puff over 5500

apparently the turbos from the mitsu GTO are a bolt on upgrade but yeah all in all they go really well down low and they just drive soo nice... also looked at a caldina today.. ugly as... and theres no way a 3sgte would have as much torque as a legnum....

    legnum > caldina anyday

have you looked into the actual weights of the tow vehical VS towing weight?

i think stagea are around 1700kg? also a few people said they are woeful on fuel...

the legume prob looks the best out of the three, that would probaly be my pick as well.

you might also want to look into the actual legal towing capacity of the cars. no point getting a car to "tow" with then getting pinged really hard for over loading or not installing the correct class tow bar.

stagea would be my first pic. decent size, proven engine, etc...

i was really keen to get a legnum at one stage and the best i read on a few of the australian forums of fuel econ. of a legnum was no better than 10km/L. he replaced all his sensors, full service, running eveything stock and babyed it. eveyone else at the time got no better than 8km/l or less... hell! my 1jzgte supra gets 9km/l just normal driving.

i saw a caldina today... if your going to all the effort of importing a car why would you get something so boring!

if your spending that sort of coin why not get a Y34 cima? theres a few already imported and complied, regoed in Aus, very pimp, prob good fuel econ.

i'd get on the phone, grab the yellow pages and give a few of the local tow bar mob's a call and see what they think.

have you actually looked into see if the legnum chassis can tow at all??

i mean in theory a chaser would be good to tow.....but i wouldnt like to see the rear end of my car after towing a car.....

even early VS commodores had a problem with floor pans stretching due to incufficient bracing when adding a tow bar.....ive seen and fitted such braces

slide, i didnt even think of that.. but IRS rear ends should be quite stiff?

i plan to use my mx83 for towing, that will cop some bigger brakes and the tow bar is rated fairly high. but its not all that heavy. still i dont think tassie cops are going to worry about me.

stagea use a fair bit more fuel from what ive seen,

caldina are an alright alrounder but i think the legnum is the pick of the litter.
for towing i wouldn't expect any more than 700kg un braked, 1100 braked. Even then i think you will be pushing it.

mind you my sierra used to tow 1300kg, not well i might add.
