get a mate with a new car (not modified) get on your mobile phone and drive next to him and at certain speeds check the difference on your speedo. HAHA.
so i found out on the weekend that i have a w50 in my ae86 . abit annoyed because i bought a new clutch for it and also when i bought the car the last owner claimed it to be a w58.
so stupid me for trusting the guy then actually doing some research to determine the difference.
so now i have to live with it . sucks to be me
Back on OT .
ive got a w50 + 4.1 ( final diff gear) + running 195/50*/r15 ( *or it might be 55)
google says that the w50 gear ratio are :
Ratios:
First Gear: 3.287:1
Second Gear: 2.043:1
Third Gear: 1.394:1
Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear: 0.853:1
Reverse: -4.039:1
can someone please help me work out my true speed . I 90% certain that that the speedo is out of wack .. so i just need to know how much im out by .
cheers guys.

" I swear its stock officer. Just don't get me to park next to another Ke70 "
Soo did a bit more googling and found this link ..
for anyone interested this is how a w50 is compared to a t50
Transmission One- W50
RPM Redline @4000 (cursing speed)
Gear Ratio Max kph
1st Gear 3.287:1 33.55 KPH
2nd Gear 2.043:1 53.96 KPH
3rd Gear 1.394:1 79.08 KPH
4th Gear 1.000:1 110.257 KPH
5th Gear 0.853:1 129.26 KPH
Final Drive 4.100:1
Transmission Two- T50
RPM Redline @4000 (cursing speed)
Gear Ratio Max KPH
1st Gear 3.584:1 29.33 KPH
2nd Gear 2.022:1 51.98 KPH
3rd Gear 1.384:1 75.96 KPH
4th Gear 1.000:1 105.122 KPH
5th Gear 0.861:1 122.09 KPH
Final Drive 4.3:1
so my speedo is about 5kms out ...
worst part about having a w50 .. is that it is a sack of shit . weight is double and from the info i have found it has a worst max hp handling at 90hp compared to the t-50 rating a max hp 125ish ...
im just hoping (can some please confirm) that it has a better torque handling rating then a t-50 . since torque is what kills gear boxes.
p.s not sure how accurate the above is so if anyone can confirm it would be awesome.

why not just get a gps and check the speed?

what i was gonna say
They're not that accurate. I've had people come in to work and complain that their GPS is showing ~5km/h different to their speedo on their brand new car. We tell them to read their GPS instruction manual which tells you it is not use it as a definitive measure of speed.
I often curse at speed, too.
Don't think of it as having your speedo always 5km/h out. Think of it as a sliding scale, or percentage increase if you will. If it is 1km/h out at 10km/h, it will be 10km/h out at 100km/h. Follow?
The W-50 is not an amazing box, but its steel construtction means they have a comparable strength to the T-50. Many of the ye olde 18R-G team tractor motor crew run into the early 200's horsepower at the flywheel through them.
That said keep in mind they are an old gearbox. People say 'oh, i run a 4AGTE with 150rwkw and i've never had any trouble with my T-50'. Torque is not the true killer of gearboxes. The operators are.

You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
funny you should say that.
was driving my mates brand new vw golf to sydney and back for snow trip.
and the digital and anologue speedo showed 7km/h higher than that of the GPS.
HOWEVER
when you cycled through the little computer thing, the average speed was completely accurate in comparison to the gps.
for example. you drive at 107km/h on the speedo. constant speed on highway. you reset the average speed. and it will instantly say average speed of 100km/h. and over a long distance it will consistantly show 100km/h average speed. where as we were travelling at 107km/h (acroding to the speedo, but 100km/h acording to the GPS)
so it knows exactly how fast it is going, but it chooses to display a higher figure. all we could put it down to was that they did it to ensure that when your are on cruise control you dont speed, since you can speed up a little bit going down a hill.

W50s are a common thing to put behind mild holden v8s and hot 6s. It will handle decent torque.
Holden people love them. Most Holdens with a Celica 5 speed have a W50.
