you mean there was play or the crank was actually moving position? otherwise no, any sort of play in the crank is bad, though the wayt you're explaining it having that sort of play i doubt the engine would run
my 4AC died last month,
was setting the timing after replacing my carbie with a weber.
and found that there is a fair bit of play on the crank.
was just wondering if that is normal, or a tell tail sign of something bad.
when i turn the motor, just after it has passed TDC and compressed i went to turn it back to line it up and there was heaps of play.
just thought i'd ask before i do anything else.
cheers

the engine hasn't been running,
it died about 4 weeks ago, and i have only just organised time to look at it properly. it isn't starting...so there maybe something wrong with it. i will take a video of it.
basically after it compresses after TDC i can turn the harmonic pulley wheel back and forth about 5-10degrees, the crank isn't moving when i do this(as i have the timing covers off and can see that when i do this the teeth where the timing belt turns the crank do not move).
forgot to mention its a 4AC

taken the crank pulley off?
sounds like you may have chewed out the keyway.

won't get a chance to take it off till monday, flat out with work/study.

I've never seen a crank pulley with a munted keyway.
I have however seen a keyway snapped off a crank though.
Remove and inspect, son.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
