Oil Temp

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the hachi scene,

Just wondering on how hot the oil temp should be on an AE86 engine.

On my stock dash i am getting half at idle and 2/3's when driving.

Too me this seems way too hot. Anyone know what i should be looking at replacing or checking?

Oil temp sits on about 80/90 casual driving (in summer), Hard driving in summer it's seen just past 110. That's without an oil cooler.

I don't trust the stock sensors and gauges in the car, Get yourself a sandwhich plate for the oil filter and hook in an pressure and temp gauges, do water temp while your at is as well.

If you are talking about the Gauge on the stock dash, that is actually oil PRESSURE. The measurements you have given are quite normal.

In regards to oil temps. amulday is on the money.

In regards to overall temps. you want your Water temp needle to be just under halfway. if it gets to half this is OK! anymore is a sign that something isn't functioning right. Airflow (path is blocked by something?), Radiator (Is this blocked, corroded etc). Water pump (Check the pulley with the belt of to see if it wobbles, any leaking of coolant in the area).
