For arguments sake, I'd imagine having PS for drifting in an AE86 would help a bit during midslide for corrections and such...

Just run a touch less castor
In my s14 it does make it alot easier to rip the wheels back to straight mid skid for corrections, easy to palm while you hold up the handbrake too.
I've got a complete AE86 power steering system in my AE71, rebuilt rack and all....
Standard power steering in an 86 isn't like what people might think, its a light car, so as such it doesn't really assist that much so the rack doesn't too THAT much. I honestly didn't notice a difference non-power steering to power steering in the 71 once you're moving, doesn't feel much if any lighter or less responsive. I only notice it when you are turning on the spot, parking etc.
Mind you, I have never drifted the car, and never will (its too clean to risk damaging, and I've got an AE86 to drift anyway).
But what I'd finally say, if I were to build my AE71 again, I wouldn't bother with power steering, it cost me more than what it was really worth.
running less castor means more work required from driver during sideways action. less work in parking lot
The difference between 3-4degrees and 8-9 degrees wont be massive.
You should be tracing the wheel anyway, not letting it spin thru your hands

i have s13 front sus with ae86 xmember i have no ps have shortened s13 knuckles, and 15x7-5 fronts with grid 3s.
i run -3deg camber
-3 castor and dont even notice how hard the steering is while sliding, wouldnt try a car park tho lol extreemly hard to tur on the spot
