    Default No p/s drifting

    Hey guys just bought my first ae86 it has a twin carb 18rgeu in it with no power steering it doesnt turn to bad but im wanting to get into drifting this year and a little bit worried about how turn speed on the wheel is going to affect me. how many of you guys drift with no power steering?

    i think pretty much everyone here with an 86 here drifts with no powersteering...

    once you are actually spinning in the rear the steering feels alot looser and smoother than you would expect...almost floating like sometimes..the tryes are wanting to pull straight and the wheel will follow unless told otherwise.

    Although if you are doing the huge weight transfers than it wont be as smooth..

    Just go for a slide and you will know what i mean..

    if i have the option to go p/s with my car should i?? i've only every driven cars without, the 1 car i have driven with felt wierd, kinda confusing. i think i'll just stick to no p/s but i thuoght i may aswell ask

    manual steering in a light car is just fine... and the only situation in which you get really heavy steering is in a power steering rack which has no fluid in it or snapped a PS belt... becomes MUCH heavier then a comparable set up with a manual rack.

    I palm steer my ae71 with 15x7's and ps arms all day everyday. Only time i can't is going lock to lock when stationary or going really slow on a hill. Oddly enough i drove dads new commodore with power steering for a few days and got sore arms cos i found the steering to heavy hahaha
