    Default New front suspension

Hey, i recently bought my first hachi and its awesome and all... but extremely stiff. The central coast roads are hopeless which makes a pretty uncomfortable ride. Apparently it has unadjustable front suspension from a rally car, not sure which brand.

Anyway im just after a ballpark figure of how much its going to cost and what parts i need to replace, also if ill be able to replace them myself.

    Ta.

These are the 4 main reasons I can think of that would make a car feel too stiff:
    1. The springs are just too stiff. Get different ones.
    2. The coilover springs are poorly adjusted, and have preload. I once saw a rally driver adjusting his front coilovers to get more height. But the shock ran out of travell, and he ended up just compressing the springs till they were rock hard.
    3. The shocks could be adjusted way too hard. This makes the car feel very bad, and you loose traction.
    4. The shocks could be too soft or worn out, with medium or stiff springs. The same springs may feel good with new shocks.

sam. can you please not use the term "drifto". it annoys me, and its kinda rude/derogatory.

    just "drift" would be super.

you can take them out and compress them with a known weight to see how far they go down. Basicly get a ruler and your biggest friend, very hard to do it accurately though. Theres a formula thats uses the diameter + coil thickness + coils + total height to work out the rate but that assumes a round piece of spring so it maynot work. Take a pic of them with the wheel off and go from there. What they might be written on the actual spring under the dust, what colour are the springs?

YOu know Sam-Q not all us "drift Guys" set our cars up like the 1990's drift cars. So dont get caught up in the sterotypical ways of thinking.

And i doubt this guy is going to be able to check his spring rates the way you suggest, sure it is a good idea and cheap, but he has already demostrated that he doesnt know much (this is not a bad thing and im not having a go at either Sam or Mudkip here)

Maybe it would be a good idea to shoot some pics, but you are best off going to see a suspension place in your local area, such as Pedders, sure they are morons but all you want them to tell you is the KG rate on your springs and what is the go with the shocks. Then once you know, then you can work out how to fix this problem.

Again dont take that as me taking a stab at anyone (SamQ) just dont like seeing "Drifto" guys put down for being in a way... different
