The first one is identical to my current and spare which are both bigports (3-rib) out of locally delivered ae82s. I bought a cap recently from repco, $50. Just asked for a dissy cap for an '87 AE82 4age.
Chris
right so i did know what one of these was which, but damn if i can find it again on the internet.
a very simple question:
16v 4age distributers
reason for asking is the distributer cap died on distributer 1, so i thought i could replace it with the cap on distributer 2. but they arent interchangable. (one hole doesnt line up) and thus i had to put the complete distrubter 2 in. i would like to buy a cap for distributer 1 as i like the heat shield and the spark plug leads fit better on distributer 1.
distributer #1:
-heat shield on the bottom
-spark plug leads point straight up (right angles to the head)
-the one i need a new cap for.
distributer #2:
-no heat shield
-spark plug leads point straight out
also if there are any other types of 16V distributers let me know, and if you have a picture that would be even better. and ill add a tech article.
one of these is a jap one, and one is an ausi one...ideas?

second one has to be JDM ae86, same as mine
hmm thanks fellas!!
i would have throught the one with the heat shield would be the jap one....
oh well, i shall go and find a new dizzy cap for the ae82 one.
also any ideas on putting new seals in the distributors?. the ae82 used to leak a bit. but the heat shield caught the oil. however with the jap one, the oil goes straight onto the extractors...mmm smelly.

A guy on twincam sells rebuild kits for dizzy's. $25-30 i think
Also i think the correct bosch part number for the ae82 cap is GD801, the one they list is GD687 and is incorrect.
