Dope as man
Thanks guys.
I got a wheel alignment yesterday and found I had about twice as much castor on the passenger side. I know there's meant to be a little bit more on one side to counteract the camber in the road, but I think that much is probably a bit excessive, haha. Everything else was within a fairly small margin of error, but we got it all straightened out, so all is good.
Pulled off the valve cover last week and found that both of my timing chain guides are broken, haha. I knew beforehand that they weren't in particularly good shape, but they're worse than I'd initially suspected. It still runs fine and doesn't make too much noise, so there's enough tension in the chain still and the lower half of the driver's side guide is intact enough to stop the chain raping the timing cover. It'll do for now, but a rebuild is on the cards a little sooner than I anticipated.
Getting some work done on refurbishing the daily spec wheels for this though, so while the wheel fitment won't be as cool as these, it'll be cool in a different way. Pics in due time.
Woah looks so good!
Everyone says that, haha. It's a future job to return it to black. The car had a respray and the guy who did it decided to paint the grill grey instead of black for some stupid reason.
Rebuild will be pretty simple. Factory spec bottom end rebuild, new timing chain kit with steel backed guides, a little bit of porting in the head and port matching the intake, new valves, valve springs and a beefier cam. I'll also ditch the EGR and air re circulation crap while it's out.
Thanks, Pecky.
Bump the compression up!
That'll happen anyway with head machining. I don't really want to spend much more on the 22R than necessary, so I'm not too fussed about whether it makes much power. Anything has to be an improvement on what it has at present, haha.
