    Default replacing handbrake cable

    Car - ae86

    motor - 4age

    use - daily/ track

problem - stretched hand brake cable , cannot get the rear to lock in the dry .

    occurs/started when -

personal situation - could do with a better paying job ..

ok so .. as above my handbrake cable i believe is stretched . Have replace the drum shoe , machine the drums and also installed in new slave cylinders. items on both side has been replaced .. i have also adjusted the brakes so that they scrub alittle bit when spinning the drums freehand ..

hand brake locks up in the wet i found out the other day . But in the dry it only slows the car down ... handbrake does work when parking . so im guessing its the handbrake cable that is stretched and wont let me lock up in the dry .

ive had a look at taking it out but i cant seem for the life of me take the damn thing out .. what tool do you guys use to take it out without hacking it . or is there a method ?

have you tried adjusting the cable?

i always found that you needed to be quite violent with the handbrake action to get it to lock in a strait line. but if you used it while doing a flick it would lock a lot easier.

so could be how your using it. its not a disk brake set-up so i dont think its ever going to lock as good.

what ? in ae86 instance id say drums are much better than ae86 disc brake setup, discs are horrible need to be agressive as hell to make them lock up, as far ive seen / felt drums lockup in an instant, you know something is wrong cause it doesnt take effort for them to lock atall

i have had both but with a good rear disk setup it lock with 1 finger in the dry but for topic i would say use a flat end screwdriver and work your way around the prongs its how i used to do Borg worners in ke's
    the dyno pull to 300rwkw

BT20v is making 300rwkw like i said i would without nitrous so now its time for some spray and see if she will run a 10s or less

wat u can do if they really are stretched is go down 2 bunnings to the metal section and grab one of those alloy pipes thats a bigger diameter to the handbrake rod at the h/b lever so u can slide it over but still have the nut hold it in place.
completely remove the nut, cut the pipe lets say 5-10mm short and place before the nut to use as a spacer, then tighten the nut how much u need it.

have had it in for a few months now with no problems with handbrakies in the dry nd wet
