Default Car won't rev past 4000rpm - JDM bigport

    Hey guys.

So, I've got an ae71 in which we have installed an ADM bigport motor with JDM rwd inlet, loom and ecu.

All good. Except it won't rev past four grand most of the time, and when it does it spits and farts and carries on like a real bitch.

According to the manual we have the injectors need a resistor. Now the injectors I've got are grey, and from what I've read on here they shouldn't need a resistor, but the manual says they are 2.3 ohm and therefore need a resistor.

I have seen a resistor that just plugs into the ecu, is that what I need? Or would it be better to just wire some resistors of the correct size inline? Is the lack of resistor even the issue?

Thanks in advance for any replies, any help is greatly appreciated

Looking at toyodiy.com, the JDM loom/ecu combination didn't use a resistor pack, however the ADM loom/ecu combination did. Based on that I would say that you don't need a resistor pack, but if you want one I've got a spare. Also, I would expect that not having a resistor would burn out the injectors rather than limiting the engine to 4000rpm.

Is it possible that you've got an incompatible dissy/ignitor/ecu combination? Combing ESA and VAST components would cause timing issues that may have the symptoms you describe.

Hey mate, that'd be awesome if you've got one - can you PM me your details and I will send you some cash for it?

I thought the same thing, I've got jdm ecu, ignitor and loom and an adm distributor. Is the adm dizzy where it is all going pear shaped?

Ha ha, tell me about it!

It runs ok to 4, but basically as soon as it wants more fuel (liek you open the throttle past halfway, or try to rev past 4) it kind of, starves, liek you can keep it going past 4000 if you're really gentle with your throttle openings

I haven't driven the car for 12 months, I'm ready to chuck it in, always something wrong with it....

from memory check fuel pump to make sure its got enough flow and pressure , and wiring in the harness.

i had same problem to me not too long ago. exact same problem and throttle would open only 60%.(Y)

Its got new fuel pump, all new lines, etc etc

I'm worried now that maybe its the dizzy that's the issue - is there any difference between an adm dizzy and a jdm one? I'm pretty sure mine has an adm ae82 dizzy on it atm

jdm / adm dizzy should be the same as long as you got a bigport dizzy for the bigport loom and bigport sensor then go from there .

get a vice grip and clamp the return line . go for a drive . should rev freely ... and then unclamp it and see.

oh does it rev freely under no load?

    post result.

Ok, thats good news about the dizzy

When you say "rev freely under load" do you mean when you free rev, as in neetral? The car is at a mates place atm, so I can't get to it until the weekend

sorry my bad, previous post edited,

but yes, put it in neutral and see if it revs freely. then go for a short drive with the return fuel line clamped .. then see what it does .

post back your result and hopefully someone might be able to help . =P
