    Default new life suggestions.

so i have had my beams sitting round for AGES now, but its almost ready to kick to life.

Are there any suggestions or important things to do in regards to getting the engine ready for its new life? or is just a case of oil, fluids, go bang?

had sorta planned on cheap oil and filter, run up for a few drives then dump and go something nice like royal purple?

    advice appreciated guys.

Note the engine hasnt been rebuilt so im not looking for running in suggestions.

    umm, double check every thing.
then try and turn the motor by hand first to see if it will actually rotate (ie not seized) that way the oil is all circulated.
    radiator is full?
    are the plugs good?
    are you getting fuel?
    timing is ok?

thats all i can really think of pat..

    thanks

motor turns.... was more worried about having missed a step in the engine sitting with no oil for 6 months and filling with oil

disconnect spark plug leads and crank for a few seconds. will help get the oil moving in all the lil places.

well thats what i do everytime a motor is getting started after a while.

The things you probably should do:
    - Check all oil and water connections are tight
    - Turn over by hand a bit
    - Remove leads and crank until you see oil pressure (can be a long time)
    - Start it and immediately check timing
    - Check everything for leaks

    What I'd do myself:
    - Fuck the lot, start it up and immediately do skids.

I would take the rocker cover/s (is it just a one piece on these?) off and pour oil over the cams before you go cranking it. Everything else has already been said.
