You're talking about a different person and car to sr_esky's car.
Tim, if I can recall, the guy who had yours also built one that had a 1ggte? that went to the East Coast, same silver I think.
And, yes I do also remember him selling his cars to fund a trip back to the USA or something.
Original motor in your car was a big port gze, then a small port gze, then your current big port gze.

OK, the mystery is over.... the admin finally approved me to post. I built the silver AE86 from the ground up. It still ranks as one of my favourite cars ever (including an M3 and a C5 Vette!). It was mostly done by Tony Flood, with 'Hi Ho Silver' custom paint by Terry Rowe. Any questions, just ask.
I also owned the harlequin 86 as well. It was a piece of shite when I bought it. Just to give you an idea, the original owner couldn't get enough fuel to the engine.... so he cut a hole in the gas tank, welded and glued some sort of can to the bottom with a bigger fuel pump in it. It looked like a sheep's dag waiting to be pulled of by the nearest parking bumper! I replaced it with a custom 60l drop tank from Loui from Guru Welding. Every time I took it out, something broke. Drive shaft, turbo, exhaust, wiring and much more had to be replaced. The battery was mounted in the boot with monster cables running underneath along the fuel lines... right next to the drive shaft! Anyway, I got the car 90% complete before I had to sell it and emigrate back to the USA. It had the potential to be a great car.... it ran an 11.9 with shitty tires and a locked diff!

Hehehe, it's like an oldskool Perth reunion here
I like hearing histories of cars. Adds character.
Guru welding, that's a name I haven't heard in years. That place closed down like 5 years ago, maybe more.
