How are you going to go about the high tension lead to dizzy/plugs
Hey guys I have a couple of questions re the coil, I am tidying up my engine bay in my 55, doing a full wire tuck and moving/hiding everything, this includes moving the coil to the cabin. It is running a 4age and an ltx8.
1) will the coil induce a current in objects around it?
2) is the coil likely to interfere with the computer or stereo?
3) How far away should i mount the coil from the computer?
4) Can i make a shield for the coil by placing a copper pipe over it and then earthing the copper pipe?
5) are these just stupid questions?
Thanks in advance
firstly, wtf for? i understand the engine tidy up, but i would keep the lead from the dizzy to the coil as short as possible, the longer a cable is the more resistance it has (goes for any cabling job, especially stereo's).
you could make a shield from copper pipe, it would work well, but i doubt it is really necessary!
you can buy EMF measuring things right? Although I don't think you want to. See if you can get a voltage out of a piece of wire placed near the coil/around the coil to see how much field escapes the confines of the coil.
I've heard of sub power wires run near ignitors cause ignition issues but I don't think your coil will draw enough current to cause issues in nearby wires but I got no idea on how much EMF escapes the coil.
Try it. If it fails, build a faraday cage.
top idea, but i really doubt you would get much...
sub power (and amp power) leads do interfere with other electrical devices. so never run them beside anything. as biggo said before, use quality shielded cable, it's probably something alot of people over look.
OK. Stop right there. bad idea.
Nothing in the engine bay should be hidden. Everything should be as visible as possible.
I think making things neat is kewl. although making it neat and accessable are 2 different things. running main feed power cables (from the battery) near signal cables will cause interferance, but small gauge cable shouldn't cause you no dramas. in the worst case, and it did - just move it a little further away -
You've just reminded me. My battery wire, the one that feeds the fuse box, and the one from alt(I think) both go right past the the ignitor and ignitor/afm/relays loom and are even held up in the wheelwell by the same tags.
Not that I drive that car much but it's never had wierd electrical problems.
