you machine it to just a touch less than the id of the rack. so it get slip in. how far? check how much extra travel your rack has. machine that much.

Jonny would you happen to have a connection diagram for some 1NZ coils? I am guessing its the same connection for all the toyota coilpacks yeah?

News: My AE86 now features in the header image rotation, and it's only a bare shell! At least Nick has a sence of humour, you have to give him that.

    Default Cop plugs

    Jonny,
Whats the part number for the connection sockets/plug for the coils. Also a wiring diagram for the coils will be appreciated.
    Cheers...

    i'll answer my own question..

    Coil Pin Out
    1.ground
    2.trigger
    3.tach
    4.+12V
starting from the left with the pins facing you...

Does this mean that the 20V coil and igniter is no longer required for tach output if
    using Toyota COP's.

    For the connectors
Tyco P/N 173631 for .070" contacts to fit connectors

    Hope this helps....

For pin no.3 I think you connect all those wires together, from all 4, and that can be your tacho output? But pin 3. is not needed otherwise. It is called IGF. It seams Anthony Kellam is the one to know all things regarding these coils. But if you use these 1ZZ/1AZ etc coils, then you no longer need:
    -dizzy cap and rotor
    -ignition leads
-ignition coil mounted on the body
    -igniter

Your tacho output would normaly be straight from the computer.

The 2AZ-FE service manual numbers the pins the other way.
    1. +B (all connected to ignition, from 15A fuse)
    2. IGF (5v ref, all connected together, goes back to ECU. Ant says this is not needed?)
    3. IGT (trigger signal from ECU)
    4. GND (ground)

1,2,3,4 viewed left to right looking at plug (not coil).

Same plug fits both 1ZZ and 2AZ.

The picture above of the rack ends is of my own set, slightly used, and modified with a paint programe to show less dirt. People that have since contacted me wanting the same, get new ones.

My own setup will change over time with testing once I get the car going again, but I think it will always involve these rack ends.

One thing is for sure, I will have a lot of steering angle, as most people on here already do (screw-on spacer, slip-on spacers, whatever...). Once the car is together I may have to limit steering angle a little just so the tyre doesn't rub on something or whatever.

And over the months I will get around to fine tuning the bump steer, just a mm here and there. My mate Rob has a KE25 with KE70/AE86 steering rack. I have made custom steering knuckles for it, and machined the rack and housing etc.. so it now has zero bump steer. Bump steer is designed into the vehicle on purpose, and my idea on what a good setup is will probably keep changing for some time.
