Lies! that door is straight, its the dull reflection. Yer, cans can be trickery as obviously they aren't made to cover large areas. Its a fine line between over spray and runs. But I like to do it

The other downside to it is you don't have much selection unless you get a lot mixed up, they will also think you are crazy. I use Holts and bought in bulk on a set colour (gunmetal).

If you have friends in the know how maybe do as Dom has suggested and paint it the proper way. That said, I think it was Dom's first time painting his car, and it turned out quite good, besides a few friends sticking around.

    Prep is also no. 1

Unfortunately, a fair few corolla guys I have helped over the years are now married and probably reluctant to help me sand my Levin on a week night. I don't know if rum mixed with coke would change that. I even e-mailed my 10 year old nephew to see if he would prepare my Levin for paint. "Like the one off GT4 only in real life, I will buy you McDonnalds". No responce. Maybe a Facebook event could organise this activity?

prep doesnt take that long. are you wanting to go back to bare metal? or just scuff it up ready for some sandable primer?

to get it ready to prime takes almost no time at all. you can use scotch brite.. thats all it needs, just a quick going over.

blocking back the primer takes 2 days max if you put half an effort in. wouldnt ever bother going past 600. especially for white.

my paint job is crappy in parts, but close to pro in others. if i had have spent an extra $80 on another gun and not used a touch up gun it would be 100%. the compressor i used is a "2.5hp" $200 job. josh (young) uses the same sorta thing.

seeing as you are going white, just make sure you have plently of colour to apply, that way you can always just buff it if you dont manage to get a nice shine off the gun. it really isnt that hard though. as long as you think before you start, and youre actually paying attention to how the coats are going on, it is pretty easy to paint a car in a normal flat colour. metalics ect are harder, as then need clear and cant really be buffed between base coat and clear.

OK thanks. I have now paid for:
    - 4L etch primer
    - 5L Toyota 041 "New white" 2 pack
    - hardeners
    - thinners
    - red scotchbrite pads
    - 50mm masking tape

Plus I have a pro lined up to paint the cage. And I think we have a bodyshop booth for the final outside coat. Fairly simple I guess. I better get sanding.

    Default Underbody refresher program

As you all know, I am disappointed about never being chosen to race in a AE86 series back in the 80's, even if I was only 12. The commissioning of this project should be some consolidation.

The underbody recieved well over 4351 spot welds and now has the torsional rigidity of a 1991 Honda Accord.

HDPE masking plastic is used to cover the already prepared interior. I did get my nephew to do some of that after all.

Stew the painter gets all the etch primer on within a few seconds.

Only 10min later half a coat of 2 pack colour is sprayed on. An accelerator is added to the hardener. Then a second thick coat of colour is sprayed on.

The whitest white that Toyota make. Maybe not.
