hey guys was wondering if anyone knows how much is supposed to be cut off the strut tube to have these shocks fitting snug
Second link.
Whats the part number?
i shortened the leg by 65mm total ( i think ) may have been 60mm - but ill check my scrappy notes when i get home - thats taking into account the 30mm that was welded back on with the thread.
and no spacer was used in the bottom of the stut.
im going to go out on a limb here....
but couldn't you just work it out?
just plonk the shock inside the tube and work out how much you need to cut off before the shock sits in a good spot?
taking into account such things as what your gonna weld back on? (ive never done this just speculating here)
i assume the idea is to get the gland nut thing to sit in a position so that when you do it up the shock is sitting on the bottom of the strut, or on top of a little spacer??
to the OP please dont tell me me you were going to get a random number from the forums (this magical 65mm) and attack your strut with an angle grinder?

its like you say dave - all you have to do is drop the insert inside the strut tube - drop a ruler into the tube and measure the distance to the top of the tube - write that number down (this is how much the stut needs to be shortened by - then measure how much you want to cut off the top to keep the threaded section - i cut off around 30mm (to the inner sleeve step) - so then add both the numbers together - this is where you make the 1st cut - then cut off the threaded section (30mm) and re weld it back on - depending what you use to cut the tube - drop saw or pipe cutter - take into account the few mm of steel lost in those cuts.
you need to make sure that the re welded threaded section is aligned correctly otherwise u wont get the gland nut back on.

I'm sick of reading about these fabled st185 AGX's and there 'super short' measurements...
ANYONE KNOW THE PART NUMBER? (CAPS MEANS I"M ANNOYED)
As far as I know kyb down under don't make them for st185 only st204, I'm running st204 in front of mine and I could slam it on the ground and still have sufficient droop and travel.
Part number or the AGX ST204 is 765017
Do you have dimensions for the st204 ones? need extended lenth and body length!
i've got a few people telling me they are definitely running st185 agx's but they are all slack and dont know the part number??
