Default Exhaust build, over or under axle setup?

    Hi guys,

Just about to build an exhaust system for the 86. Are most people running over or under axle setups? Will be running coilovers and lowered to a reasonably low height. If the exhaust is over the axle, would the axle hit it going over bumps?

I was thinking of running it under the axle as it would be much simplier to make... but then risk hitting the ground. Most other imports seem to run under the axle, does this also apply to sprinters?

    Any suggestions would be great.

If you make it under the axle, you just have to consider the length of your shocks, and that everything should be 100mm off the ground to be legal. I'm told it can be done.

mine is under diff. the old one went over and the trailing arm mount rubbed a hole in it. the only thing that is bad about mine is that i cant drop the diff all the way down as it will hit the exhaust. no big deal tho
    stroked 2L ca18-ae86 in the build...eta xmas 2012?

if you an underdiff exhaust, make sure to put a flange just before the diff... as removing the whole exhaust to drop your diff is neither fun or enjoyable.

isnt the reason why people use under diff cos the rear suspension is so low there no room to go over

also there are some benifits with underdiff like less restriction but not sure if its legal or not to run on the streets?

go under the diff with a flange as seek said..

you dont have to worry about height...as long as its close to the diff. with the diff bieng unsprung its always the same height(wheel dependant) so u can go lower with an under diff then with an over diff.

but as jonny said... it can be bad news if you have too much droop and hit a decent bump

Yeah I figured thats the reason why the under diff setup was used, cos lowered cars had no room over the diff and not to mention much easier to fabricate. That under the diff picture looks like it's over 100mm off the ground too.

But as you said, is it legal? Or does it simply have to be higher than 100mm off the ground as Johnny mentioned? Can anyone shed some light on this... would hate to build it and have to hack it up again.

As far as I know, any system is legal. Does not matter if its over or under the diff. As long as it's not TOO loud, exits past the rear door, does not stick out from the car, is over 100mm, and does not sound like a bee in a can. But I havn't read any rules lately.
