    Default 4age/4agte Timing belts

Is there any benefit going all out spending $$$ on an expensive timing belt, or is it fine to run the supershite/repco products? I'm changing the water pump and timing belt soon on my 4agte(7 rib block)-(I know to change both at the same time due to past experiances ) so it got me thinking. I use standard cam gears, but would adjustable cam gears make any difference? I did a search on the forums but didnt come up with very much.. I use my 86 as a daily, but she definitley see's alot of fun So, whats everyones opinions/experiances with timing belts?

I run a dayco timing belt kit, prices range from $105-120 and it comes with new idler, spring, 2xcam seals and a new front main seal. I've also run a standard gates too, both with no problems. That said though, even if one did snap 4a's are not an interference engine so nothing will break if it does let go.

I only use the genuine Toyota belt on my race car. Slightly mote expensive than an aftermarket one but they have never let me down even at constant high rpm. As for adjustable cam gears I don't see any real value unless you have larger cams/compression.

I use HKS Cam gears and a HKS timing belt.

Supposedly higher strength than a stock belt... NFI if it's true. But it's purple.

Any belt will snap if you tighten them too much though. I have the remnants of a stock toyota belt snapped due to being too tight....

I don't see the point of anything high quality in belts for a street engine when a 4age is a non interference engine.

Just for the record a 20v even with 0.8mm gasket is without any doubt a non interference engine still. I found this out the indisputable way.

So your standard belt jumped two teeth on your crank gear? lol did it still run? Cheers for the interference engine lesson lads, much apprectiated. So good words for both factory and aftermarket belts? (except for H8CHIR6KU, who bought another factory belt anyway) I've always used factory belts, so I might give an aftermarket belt a go, just for shits and giggles Thanks for the feedback!
