Default front chassie rail tie bar (how to fab)

    as per title..

has anyone fab'd up a front chassie rail tie bar (the bit that ties the front chassie rails together at the front, also has the lower rad' support brackets and the front of the castor rod mounts bolt to it)

i was gonna make one out of some 50mm RHS just arguing with dad how to attach it at the ends.. i want to plate it in and weld it all he wants to weld bits of angle to the rhs and bolt it in..

so if anyone has done it or seen it done dig up some pics for me please

I haven't but this is right up my alley. How about using some 44.44 x 1.2mm (1.75" x 0.046") cro-mo pipe? Square section is not as rigid per gram until its a very uneven rectangular shape with force in one plane only.

I am bit confused by your question though in regard to attachment, to have a better idea would you be able to describe what you have in mind to achieve?

its to replace the factory one,
mine has issues and i was also planing to make it a central front jacking point.. as with the front bar and intercooler i cant get my jack under far enough to get to the engine x member

attachment to the main chassie rails.. the factory one has folded triangle and 'c' section sheet metal that are spot welded to the main rails..

I'm trying to find pics of what was done on goldie. Was just 40/40/2 RHS and was neat and simple.

That pic is intence - Im doing exactly what your talking about, ill get some pics, but in all im just using cage tube - cant remember specs, its the cams approved stuff.

im going to weld 3-4mm plate along both the inner sides of both chasis rails, around 300mm long, the tube section will be as the main section above - welded to the inner chasis rail on the 3-4mm plate... then just infront of the crank pully im going to weld another piece of cage tube betweem the chasis rails onto the 3-4mm plate. to make the front more ridgid.

I think that the one lower tube section is enough to replace the standard chasis tie bar.

im doing mine for rad and intercooler fitment.
