Couple of suspension q's

I'm just in the process of putting ae86 struts with ajps springs into my ae71, and I've got a few questions.

Brakes lines - what can I use? The 86 struts came with chopped lines, so I can't use them. Can I use the 71 lines on the 86 brakes? I've had a look and it seems feasible, but they have a slightly different head and brakes are pretty important so I want to make sure.

Refurbishing the brakes? What should I check to make sure the brakes are going to work as expected? I've taken them apart and the piston still moves, if a bit stiffly. Should I put grease in there somewhere?

Non captive spring problem? I've heard of people using wire or even cable ties to keep the springs in place, but is this the preferred option? Any pics of how it's done?

hoses should be fine, post some pics would help. there arent too many different systems, your car should have inverted double flare 45* taper both ends. otherwise new ones from auto parts place (non genuine) should be $40 or less each (ae86 fitment)

caliper should be fine. reserve maintenance for when you rebuild them. reco' kit is cheap and its pretty a pretty easy job.

springs. dont worry about. its on a strut. cant go anywhere really. only a prob really at the rear where it can call out. if youre worried, all youre trying to do is keep them in place, so if the strut uncompressed to the point of the spring being loose, it wont come a drift and seat incorrectly. the way the spring seats are designed, this is rarely an issue unless your springs are very very short and you have very long travel shocks.

Thanks Slydar. Regarding the brake lines, one seems to flare inwards and the other outwards, pic attached.

I get what you mean about it being on the strut, I was just worried about it compressing on an angle or something and damaging the perch. Just being paranoid I guess. Although I will have a problem in the rear as I have lower springs for there too.

wats shocks u runnin in the rear...for cheap but effective substitute id suggest vl/vb shocks which are quite stiff but with some bounce, or even better some sierra shocks which is what i ran with facon springs and were a good combination and will not have any spring captive problems

Yet another question, concerning this bar. I'm not sure what it's called but it goes from the LCA to the chassis rail. You may not be able to see it but that nut is welded on. Is it supposed to be like that?

You'll find the AE71 brake lines aren't long enough, just have some new ones made up.

try chissel or work it off.. it shouldnt be welded.. i pulled mine apart the other day and it just seems to be sum old skool loctite.

u can buy ae86 brake lines for $30 per side
brake rebuild kits can be bought from toyota, i think they where $50-70 the pair?

It's called a tension/castor rod and its there to adjust the amount of castor angle your front wheels have. So that nut SHOULDNT be welded. It needs to be free to give you a propper adjustment.
